Today, I installed CDT HD62 two way 6.5 inch woofer and 1 inch tweeter speakers, Sony GT400 head unit, and Alpine PDX 4.150 amp (4 x 150 watts RMS).
The kick panel cutting for the 6.5 inch woofers was easier than I expected. I kept the top of the cutout at the top of the original opening, widened to about the angled sheetmetal on the firewall side of the opening, and extended downwards. I did not even have to relocate the hood release. I used eDead on the inside and outside.
I ran the KnuConcept RCAs, part of a 4 gauge amp wiring kit, down the center, under the console and carpet and across the rear seat and up the driver's rear corner with the stock wiring and through the stock hole. These RCA included a turn on lead for the amp.
I installed the Sony GT400 head unit using a wiring harness adapter and amplied antenna adapter. No problems there except stuffing all the wiring in so the head unit would fit. The GT400 has red as an optional color for the display and it is a littled darker than stock but at least it is in the same class of colors. Cheap and decent specs.
The cross overs for the CDT and amp went in the trunk. The wiring was pretty straight forward. Again, I used a Knu Concept amp wiring kit. I also used the stock speaker wiring.
I have not yet mounted the amp or cross overs. I chose this amp in part because it is small and light yet makes good power. It is a class D digital and is not cheap. All should fit on the driver's side panel of the trunk, but I will have to make a panel to hold the amp.
To come later are small boxed subwoofers, CDT M6, on the rear deck firing up through the stock holes. For now, I am using just the front speakers, but have an old Kicker Solobaric 8 inch sub in a wedge box that I may try out while I build up the energy to tackle the small sub boxes -- probably using the Brazeau Racing design for adapting the lid of the box.
