I may be picking up a non-vanos m50 this weekend to drop into my 318ti. The problem is that my ti is a 97 which means its EWSII and OBDII equipped. Ill be getting the complete engine, harness, and DME with the engine so i think im set in that department, but my question is, what do i do about EWSII? Is there a chip i need to buy for the DME or is there a way to trick the EWS system so it doesnt send signals back and forth with the DME and allow the engine to run? Ive read about how you can cut a wire or something for OBDI cars to bypass EWS but i know for EWSII its required to take the car to the dealer to have the DME and EWS aligned....not sure what to do in this case.

Ive done a search, but most all threads consist of OBDI to OBDII, OBDI to OBDI, or OBDII to OBDII. Can someone point me to a good thread or answer the above questions with legitimate answers?

Thanks
tony

For the trouble you are going to run into its not worth it to get non OBD2 engine. Save yourself the headache and get a OBD2 engine. Trust me

Well, looks like all i have to do is cut a wire or buy an ews delete chip.

Dredder - Im getting rid of all my OBDII crap because ill be doing turbo on the m50...the less electronics and bull crap to deal with, the better.
