View Full Version : 2003 BMW Z4 Navigation System MAP UPDATES
Crystallized 08-31-2007, 10:33 PM I was wondering if anyone has the DVD for the 2007.2 update to the Navigation System? This DVD is rather expensive, while you can "sometimes" get them free from BMW dealers, they don't normally just give them out. They run about $200 for the DVD disc. Anyone want to either:
1. Pool Money Together For One (USA/Canada version)
2. Burn me one =)
Let me know! I know a lot of you out there with nav systems would love to have a new copy. I recently bought a 2003 BMW Z4 and had a 2004.2 copy in the DVD drive, would love to get the new one.
The HACK 09-01-2007, 01:21 AM It's $120 per disc from NavTech.
KPACOTKA 09-01-2007, 01:48 PM It's $120 per disc from NavTech. It can be copy protected, so doesn't fit requirements of OP.
Crystallized 09-01-2007, 08:42 PM Copy protection can be circumvented =)
If anyone has a copy, send me a PM

It's not.

Seriously, it's $120. Is it really worth pirating for? How poor must you be to be able to afford a $40,000+ car but can't afford an extra $120 once in a while to buy a new NavTECH dvd? It's $10 a month. :nono

I just bought a used 2003 Z4 3.0. I guess I'm not like one of those people who have $40,000 to spend on a car. I barely have half that. I worked my butt off for the money to buy the car I have now, which, as the first BMW I've ever had, is the best car I've ever driven. I've long been a fan of the Z3, and when the Z4 came out, I started saving money a little at a time.
I don't have the grandest job on the planet to enable me to afford what you can buy, but I make do with what I have. I saved up a long time, traded in a Honda Prelude with 158,000 miles and here I am.
So to answer you as respectfully as possible: Poor enough to come here and ask for a current 2007.2 NAV DVD.
(by the way, not that I can afford $120, the DVD's I see on their site are $199, not $120. If you go to www . navteq . com (why can't I post URL's or smileys?!), choose BMW, choose Z4 and choose 2003-2007, the DVD is $199. I don't know where $120 is coming from, but I can't afford that either, haha...
Poor money management? Yah, yah, I know, I don't need to be told =)
KPACOTKA 09-01-2007, 11:26 PM Can you return disk if you do not like it? The problem is that a new disk may have nothing new for your area, so you may decide to return it back.
KPACOTKA 09-01-2007, 11:27 PM It's not.
Good to know. I think MB uses navtech as well and disks are protected, although now they use HD based navigation.

Do not take it to close. Some people like to teach others how they should live even when nobody asks them about that.

Normally software in any form has no return policy (for obvious reasons, a.k.a. copying), thus, I doubt they allow it.
KPACOTKA 09-02-2007, 01:05 AM My MB nav disks had 30 days return policy last time when I bought them. Probably it is changed now. Accordingly

the latest disk doesn't have many changes. I have 2006.2, so I am not going to update. And you are right, the metioned thread states price as $200. It is very expensive for me as well.

There are other areas to get stuff like this, no problem. You have the whole internet at your disposal. You probably won't get people on this forum openly burning copies of nav DVD's to save some 40 or 50 bucks of list price IMHO for you, that being said I do think that when you buy a BMW new or used, with NAV, BMW NA should give you 1 new DVD nav Just for getting the car. How hard would that be to do?
Crystallized 09-02-2007, 12:41 PM I bought the car from an Infiniti dealership, so having BMW NA give me a new copy for getting a car at Infiniti doesn't sound possible, lol.
Crystallized 09-02-2007, 12:43 PM Hey KPACOTKA, do the new map updates change the look of the maps? I have the 2004 edition where gas station markers show up as big icons all over my map to the point where I can barely see the map itself, lol.
The 2004 edition just looks archaic, I was wondering if the 2007 looks better overall?
Crystallized 09-02-2007, 12:44 PM anpmech, you live right around the corner from me almost...lol. I live off the 605 and the 60.

It's piracy no matter how you slice it. If the OP saved up to get his Z4, he surely can appreciate how hard slaves at NavTECH has to work to get this information to us. An it's not like the Navigation system does not work without an updated version of the map software. My wife's 545i still has a 2004.2 disc and it seems to direct her to where she needs to go just fine.
Sounds to me like the OP just wants the latest and greatest and isn't willing to pay for it. That's fine, if that's what you're into. But have some tack, if you're looking to pirate stuff, don't go around asking for it in an open forum. There are things call Bit Torrent or ICC channels that does not require much personal effort to find. :nono
Either put in the $$$ to buy the disc, or put in the effort to "find" the disc. Don't go looking for hand-outs.
KPACOTKA 09-02-2007, 02:21 PM Again too many words without meaning. This forum is moderated, so allow moderators do their job. Also do not claim OP as a pirate. Be polite as probably your mother told you. You do not know NavTECH business model either, so do not try to uncover it for us. My opinion that nvigation software and systems are rip off. When you buy regular software you have tech support and free bug fixing. It doesn't happen with navigation software. You deal with all bugs and inaccuracies in it. At least I reported tons bugs for Lexus navigation and never got updates/fixes for them. I believe the same happening for BMW. BTW BMW had free updates for warranty period.
Z3speed4me 09-02-2007, 07:15 PM ima check what version i have for MYSELF.... but i doubt anyone on here is making a copy, ask your dealer they should give it to you, its seriosly not that big a deal
Crystallized 09-06-2007, 03:36 PM KPACOTKA is right, I have to admit. You buy Windows and you get all the bug fixes and support you want. You buy NavTeq software and what you buy is what you get. Bug somewhere? Too bad. Inaccuracy? Too bad.
To the above poster calling me a pirate. If you want to put a label on me, fine. I live near a freeway that is extremely buggy on my Nav System. If I plot a course ANYWHERE, it has me take the freeway for half a mile, get back off the freeway and take streets until I finally get to the next nearest freeway, then it has me get back on and proceed on my merry way.
While it can be a pretty major annoyance, I'm sure it could be remedied by getting an updated disc.
TheHack: I'm glad your wife's disc works great, mine unfortunately doesn't work nearly as well. Sounds like I want the latest and greatest? You make assumptions about me as if you're some kind of psychic, knowing exactly why I'm here and why I want things. Your assumptions are irrelevant and simply not needed. I really didn't ask for your negativity. While I understand this is an open forum and your opinion is the same value as mine, I kindly ask that you keep your negativity to yourself. I suppose I should've wrote my life story on WHY I needed the discs, but I thought I'd save people the sob story.
While you're here reading this, I want you to take a look above at anpmech's reply to my thread. Notice how he says pretty much the same thing as you, but leaves the negativity at the door? Perhaps I'm not the one who needs a class on "tact".
Secondly, as far as your last sentence regarding "Either put in the $$$ to buy the disc, or put in the effort to "find" the disc. Don't go looking for hand-outs". Nav Discs are not exactly easy to find. Yet another assumption of yours that proved false. If I'm here asking for the discs, then I've already gone through all avenues trying to find it out there including IRC channels and Torrents.
I even called Navteq today and told them about the error regarding the freeway I use, and they basically told me "buy the new one", even though it's a bug on their end of the software. How's that for customer service? Sell a bug, then get your customers to buy a fix.
If that's their customer service, then yes, call me a pirate.
