View Full Version : Help with DDE wiring...splicing into corner lamps, whats the best way?

I recently bought a retrofitted pair of ZKWs with E46 bixenon projectors. They had DDE thinline's, but I dont know how to wire those up. I read I was supposed to splice them into the corner wires, but I've never done any direct wire-cutting or splicing before. The other stuff seems to be just PnP (ballast, high beams etc)

Should I solder the wires (never done that before), or is there an easier route? I was looking at some wire tappers from Radio Shack, not sure if they apply. If someone could give me a DIY or walk me through it, thatd be great. I suck at wiring/electrics

Thanks

Can anyone give me a good DIY for splicing and powering angel eyes?

Thanks

get some 3m tap connectors(walmart, autozone etc) and tap into the grey with a yellow stripe wire on one side and grey and purple stripe on the other and you're done.

I also tapped into the brown wire on both sides, but that was for my city lights.

So each of those 3M taps have "slots" for the wires to be tapped into? Is it that easy, just clamp with a plier and Im done??

I was imagining soldering and wirecutting etc.

yup, its that easy, but i would recommend splicing soldering and heat shrink if you can.

Yeah but I think I'll use the 3M taps first and if those mess up down the road, I'll relearn soldering...havent done soldering since middle school workshop class lol

make sure to use elec. tape to insolate the tap from moisture.
good luck.:)

6i9 I used teh 3m taps, and some tape has been fine for me so far, granted ive only had my headlights in my car for about a week-ish.

heat shrink wrap is the best method.

Is there supposed to be a wiring harness for these? I seem to read about them in some DIY's...

Man I just did this for the first time yesterday. I was so worried that I wasn't going to be able to figure it out. Thanks to talking with Habbie over the phone I was able to figure this one out. It's SO easy and I was worried about something that I shouldn't have even made a big deal out of. Just buy a wire connector from walmart (blue or red will work) cut the purple wire (drivers side) and strip the wire, twist stripped ends around each other then slip it into one end of the connector and put the angel eye wire into the other end of the connector and you voila....you're good to go! Wash, rinse and repeat for the passenger side!
