View Full Version : Post pics of your favorite projectors!
Righteous 08-31-2007, 06:18 PM Seems like everyone retrofits with TSX projectors. Yes they do have a great spread and good cutoff and color, BUT, they have been around for like 4 years now, are there any other newer projectors that interest you?
While looking around this car dealership the other day I noticed cars like VW Rabbit, Toyota Camry, and Hyundai Tiburon all have projectors, but I would like to see them in action. If someone could post pics of as many cars they have seen with projectors while lit, it would be very helpful in deciding which cars have the best projectors.
euro96 09-03-2007, 05:47 PM i know the hyundai ones are halogen projectors...so those are very different
tsx are still better than any of those you posted..i think tsx are still better than most projectors out there
spoonerDee 09-03-2007, 06:05 PM i drove a brand new mazda 5 in hawaii on my honeymoon, the projectors on that were nice, very wide spread, really good cut off. something i might look into

Righteous 09-04-2007, 03:08 AM Halogen projectors project light in a focused way, much the same as the projectors you get from DEPO or ZKW. There is hardly any spread making them ineffective.
Why wouldn't manufacturers make their projectors all have good spread? Would the light simply be too weak once spread out if by use of halogen? Also, why would Umnitza sell their E36 projector headlights with HID bulbs and ballasts if the E36 projector (Euro spec E36s had them stock) isn't designed to be used by HIDs? Obviously, to make more money with an inferior product.
Stealthauto 09-04-2007, 03:16 PM Not sure if this might help but here is a side by side comparison with ZKW and Depo Projectors light spread and patterns.
This was taken during sunset and there was still plenty of light as you can see. But you can still see the differences. They are both 6000k HID's.
ZKW on the left and Depo on the right

The pattern is very similar but what I noticed is that the ZKW look like they illuminate in a more broad or less focused way. In other words looks like the spread the light more. The Depos look at little more intense at one point like they are more focused. Kinda like when you take a Mag light flashlight and play with the focus ring.
Not sure what is necessarily better......
ZKW's

I've wondered the same thing as well... but maybe they work well, i don't have first hand experience..
I had a e46 projector retrofit in my maxima, they worked great.
tsweers89 09-08-2007, 02:22 PM e46 look great
Rose City 09-09-2007, 04:34 AM mb e350s have nice projectors. the 07 comes with halogens though?... unless you get the spendy bi-xenion/self-turning-into-corners option
heresmymind 09-09-2007, 11:44 PM as we speak there are projectors out that are better than TSX's for low beam. the ls430's (extremely expensive)(which are huge bulky and hard to mount{wont fit most of your lights}) and S2000 low beams. which are expensive and still on the harder side to mount.
TSXs are easy to mount. decent price. and for most of the people out there, the easiest to "BLING" with the color mod. (personally I hate it)
I have depo e36s not the zkw look a likes. I mounted TSX projectors very easily and they work perfect with the stock shroud. I chose NOT to color mod them for the blue cutoff. and I use 3000k d2s (deep yellow) for my bulbs. pics:

heresmymind 09-11-2007, 05:31 PM our cars stock head lighting really is craptacular. almost equivalent to a flashlight with dying batteries. e36 headlights are very close to ours. and where i live where there are a lot of back roads and deer being able to see is very important. So yes the lights are not 100% flush but function is far greater than the slight mis-form. I just wanted to post to help edge-i-mi-kate some people on retros and HIDS. I have done a few for bimmerforum members. and I am a major member on HidPlanet.com just hear to help. dont hate!!
