I recently tinted my tails and corners and I was wondering how you get the glossy finish. I used taillight spray tint and that was it, can someone tell me how I get them to look glossy?

Armo95 08-30-2007, 03:53 PM Will it matter it I clear coat it now that they are smoked? Yes, for the look you're looking for, it will matter - not drastically, but it will be different than if you had cleared it before applying the paint as far as glossy finish. The best would've been to clear coat two or three layers, then paint it, then clear again 3 or 4 layers. That would've gave you the glossy look you're looking for, but now, I'm not sure how it'll look since you didn't clear the lights before applying the paint. shia8j 08-30-2007, 05:05 PM Can anyone tell me where to buy a good clear coat online? Armo95 08-30-2007, 05:58 PM Can anyone tell me where to buy a good clear coat online? No need to buy online, that's dumb because you'll have to pay for shipping and most places don't see less than retail (so you're paying ~$15-20 for one can that can be had for less than $5). Go to any Pep Boys, Home Depot etc. and pick up some Rust-oleum Crystal Clear Coat. It's like $3.79/can. habbie 08-30-2007, 06:02 PM No need to buy online, that's dumb because you'll have to pay for shipping and most places don't see less than retail (so you're paying ~$15-20 for one can that can be had for less than $5). JordanMD88 08-30-2007, 07:57 PM What everyone here said.. I used a whole can of VHT night shade on my tails then buffed them after i baked them in the over @ 200 for 30 min... then i clear coated them and wet sanded them :) http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l99/JOrdanmd88/DSCF1412.jpghttp://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l99/JOrdanmd88/DSCF0322.jpg rdpower 08-31-2007, 12:52 PM Off topic, but would this make the paint look shinier on rims as well? That is putting some clear coat on, then the paint, then more clear? habbie 08-31-2007, 01:09 PM Off topic, but would this make the paint look shinier on rims as well? That is putting some clear coat on, then the paint, then more clear? no, paint then clear on wheels would be my choice, no sense in clearing then painting, that technique only works on transparent items for a glossy finish. rdpower 08-31-2007, 02:21 PM Ok, thats what I thought, thanks. Don Nguyen 08-31-2007, 02:42 PM I used lamin-x to smoke out my lights. I prefer this method over others, since they don't fade out over time, and it is easily reversable. -Don purduinaM3 08-31-2007, 02:50 PM I used lamin-x to smoke out my lights. Where can I get lamin-x for the taillights? Did you do the insides or the outsides? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!! :) PG256 08-31-2007, 10:25 PM I used lamin-x to smoke out my lights. IraSummers 08-31-2007, 11:22 PM Got any pics of this? +1, and of any other lights too! Which of their tinst did you use (don't they have 2 or 3 levels of tint along w/ clear and colored)? Ahmed303 08-31-2007, 11:56 PM I used LaminX tint film. Provides protection from flying rocks and very easy to take off if the coppers give you any grief. Also I changed the light bulbs to higher lumen output ones to be compliant with my state law (All lights must be visible in daylight from 300 feet). http://members.roadfly.com/faisal_in_laurel/Lightstint/01Before.JPG http://members.roadfly.com/faisal_in_laurel/Lightstint/02Materials.JPG http://members.roadfly.com/faisal_in_laurel/Lightstint/03BuffLens.JPG http://members.roadfly.com/faisal_in_laurel/Lightstint/04BuffFTP.JPG http://members.roadfly.com/faisal_in_laurel/Lightstint/05WipeLens.JPG http://members.roadfly.com/faisal_in_laurel/Lightstint/06Spray.JPG http://members.roadfly.com/faisal_in_laurel/Lightstint/07Brush.JPG http://members.roadfly.com/faisal_in_laurel/Lightstint/08Squeez.JPG http://members.roadfly.com/faisal_in_laurel/Lightstint/09Roll.JPG http://members.roadfly.com/faisal_in_laurel/Lightstint/10Headlights.JPG http://members.roadfly.com/faisal_in_laurel/Lightstint/11Headlights2.JPG http://members.roadfly.com/faisal_in_laurel/Lightstint/12AfterFront1.JPG http://members.roadfly.com/faisal_in_laurel/Lightstint/13AfterFront2.JPG http://members.roadfly.com/faisal_in_laurel/Lightstint/14AfterRear1.JPG http://members.roadfly.com/faisal_in_laurel/Lightstint/15AfterRear2.JPG http://members.roadfly.com/faisal_in_laurel/Lightstint/16AfterRear3.JPG NYY42 09-01-2007, 12:46 AM look at my signature..thats how smoked lights should look. owwwch 09-01-2007, 01:00 AM the best way that i have done it is to wet sand them w/ 1500, then mix a few drops of black into ur clear until desired tint is acheived then spray light even coats (about 6). once it dries it looks factory(as far as the finish goes) purduinaM3 09-02-2007, 12:15 PM I painted my clear corners/sides and they came out great, but i don't want to do that to the tails.... mostly because I'd rather have it reversable.
