View Full Version : 1988 M3 in Mint Condition, only 7k miles
357357 08-30-2007, 11:01 AM I have a cherry red 1988 BMW M3 that is in mint condition. My father purchased this car as the original owner back in 1988 and in the last 20 years has only put 7k miles on it. This car was garaged in California for its entire life, and was never driven in bad weather conditions. Color is cherry red with tan leather interior (does not have a single crack), and the paint does not have a scratch on it. Original tires are still on this car, and inside still smells like new. My father has passed away and we need to sell this car to someone that will take as good as care for it as he did. This is a one of a kind car, and to me it has become a collectible at this point. I'm posting this hear to see if anyone would be interested in making an offer, but I will only be looking for serious buyers and plan to start marketing it on the internet to get these buyers.
Please reply to this post or my email @ nguglielmelli@gmail.com in you are interested. This car is going to go fast, so please only serious people. I will be getting some good pics this weekend, so once you contact me I can send those to you so you can see for yourself. Asking price starts at 60k.
thanks
Nick
Kevlar 08-30-2007, 11:44 AM I suggest you post a price... this will speed up the process significantly.
MIMI1 08-30-2007, 01:22 PM thats a nice car but 60k will not justify that condition
30k is already pushing it
Turbo331is 08-30-2007, 01:35 PM As a reference, we paid $42,000 for our mint 12k mile E30 M3. Sold it for the exact same. Red is a much more desirable color, and this is known to be one of, if not the lowest mileage E30 M3's left. $60k is not far out of place, but it will take the right owner as this car isn't a 'driver'.
Also, if the buyer of the car sees this, I have the original tires from ours as well. I would be glad to sell them if someone was looking for 100% originallity.

BMWmotorsports 08-30-2007, 02:02 PM 60K? it must be equipped with $20k in the trunk...

Well since the barn from Wy hasn't surfaced in over two years with a new owner, it is the lowest mileage i've known. It had 3500mi on it the last time I talked to the owner that was selling it for mid 30's.

SimonME30 08-30-2007, 03:22 PM I am sure the car is a beauty, but if you do not put IMMENSLY more information, you do not stand a chance at selling that car. I am pretty sure this is the second lowest mileage M3 left in existence. It is definitely a collectable, you just need to find someone who can afford it and this is not the site for that whatsoever. Good luck. Find out what color red it is. ACTUAL BMW color

Stop asking for damn pics and read what he wrote.
Hopefully it's Henna. Very very desireable and rare color....not that you need any help there with desire.
Whatever you want for it - hold firm and dont listen to the bs these guys are most certainly going to give you about price. You own it. You make the rules for purchase. Best of luck with the sale!
357357 08-30-2007, 05:51 PM thanks, what is henna. The color is very similar to the oic here, what is that color called?
Crazyboy325is 08-30-2007, 06:06 PM thanks, what is henna. The color is very similar to the oic here, what is that color called?
Henna is a shade of red. Open the hood. There should be a sticker with the color name in german and a paint code. Good luck with the sale.
dos Santos 08-30-2007, 06:09 PM This out to be interesting...
PhotoMotion 08-30-2007, 06:17 PM If he's calling it "Cherry Red" it's more likely "Brilliantrot" (if they made E30 M3s with that color)
If he's calling it "Cherry Red" it's more likely "Brilliantrot" (if they made E30 M3s with that color)
If it's 88 then it's either Zinnoberrot or Hennarot.
If hes saying "cherry red", my guess is Henna.
aaronmjr 08-30-2007, 10:00 PM $60k is a whopper! I'm really interested to see pics of this car. I'd be happy to host them for you to post into this thread. my email is likewhoa.alo (at) gmail.com
Good luck with the sale!!! -Aaron

Our? You mean your girlfriends dads?
m thrizl 08-30-2007, 10:38 PM you should also take pics of the VIN stickers on the fenders, doors, hood, and trunk.. this will help solidify this car as a "smithsonian quality car" - assuming it is in mint condition also. if the car has had any paint work you will probably be capped at $30k
well at least you have a "comp" or comparible sale from the guy that sold his for $42k, to base the market on... remember, a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. there is no doubt in my mind where i would have that car advertised if it were my car..... ebay. if you want to collect a hefty premium for very rare car, you better attract a large audience. you will need to have an excellent ad with detailed hi res pics too; skimp on this, and you will just be another seller trying to hook a whale.
run it a few times on ebay, shit, run it consecutively 4 or 5 times starting with a $59k reserve and lowering it according to the amount of bids.. nothing wrong with trolling for the right buyer to pay what i would consider an "astonomical" price... good thing "price" is relative, and what may be astronomical to me, may just be a simple cost to obtain a "want" for someone else.
m thrizl 08-30-2007, 10:41 PM actually, i take that back, if i was set on getting 60k, the only place i would think to get that is at barrett jackson on consignment
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/events/scottsdale/consignment/howtosell.asp
ship the car, fly first class, hang out and check out exotic and classic cars, and then wait for that whale to bid to "whatever it takes".... people should know that barrett jackson doesnt determine so much the "value" of a car, but rather "how much someone will pay to have" said car... typically well more than what its worth.
aaronmjr 08-31-2007, 02:05 AM Our? You mean your girlfriends dads?
You read my mind.
Sorry OP for mucking up your thread but Turbo331is (aka Mr. Vicarious)'s opinion should not be valued in this instance. Again, good luck with your sale and I can't wait for pics!!! :D

The problem with that is the HUGE commission you would have to pay them. For him to get $60k take home, he would probably have to sell it for $75k at the auction.
GaryE30 08-31-2007, 09:22 AM I'm kind of skeptical about this. First of all, your father has had this car since 1988 (New) and you don't know any details about it. At the least, you should know the exact name of the color. Maybe you're not into BMWs as much as your old man was, so I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt.
This sounds like an excellent car and definitely worth the asking price if it is as you say. But like some other members said, you won't sell that kind of car here. Barret Jackson is the way to go.
Good luck.

For those who don't know about Wes (Turbo331is), just go to S14.net and search for any posts by "whakiewes". Guaranteed to entertain.
Sorry OP.

I ma goning to send this into Mythbusters so they can settle this once and for all. I think it probably started out as a joke by the Henna owners and now it becomes the "truth". Henna isn't any more desireable than any other color....in fact, I think it is LESS desireable. They don't sell any faster, but that probably has to do with the fadct that Henna owners think they are worth 20% more.

Your theory may be true to some extent, but I am currently in the market for an E30 M3 and I'm holding out for an '88 Henna/Black combo. I already have a 535i in Zinnoberrot and I like that color, but not as much as I love the Henna. If only this 7k mile car was a Henna and logic and financial responsibility weren't part of the equation, I'd be hocking the farm to come up with $60K!!

for real, i was so gonna buy it(you too?), then i got tired of it waiting for pics so i bought ken mckay's zinno/tan, thank god for thread jacks huh? -pm's are soo impersonal. now if only someone had a purple m3 that was very very well cared for, then i could make a trade.
also, can anyone tell me what the rattle noise is coming from my the front of my timing chain cover is? it kinda sounds like marbles in can, almost as if my vanos is shot, but i havent the foggiest idea what it could be.
ooh, while were on subject, can someone tell me when the next north dakota/south dakota/ montana tri state get together is?
BMW1999NEW 09-15-2007, 03:28 AM hey guys i left the site but come back from time to time. I live like 10mins from the OP and used to own a 90 m3 so i could check it out and maybe vouch for him, if he allowed it. I'm kind of curious to see this thing too! OP if you would like to do that pm me. It would probably prove to them that your not a scammer lol.

I am wondering if this is real or not since so much time has passed and not one single picture of this alleged 7k mile car has been produced. I hope it is real, but the original poster is doing nothing to justify this car being real, or the $60k price tag. :rolleyes
sharp88shot 10-04-2007, 03:57 PM full of it. Thought I came across a nice car to buy :\

Righteous 10-05-2007, 04:59 PM If you were planning on getting $60k. Why don't you just sell it at a collectible car auction? Most sales on this forum are between $1-16,000. People on this forum are drivers, not car collectors.
3LtrdakarM3 10-05-2007, 05:31 PM 60000 are you kidding someone could buy an M3 lightweight for like 30000 less and would probably get more attention too.
n00bjabi 10-05-2007, 05:46 PM Or take the $60k that they would have invested into a car that we're not even sure exists, put it towards an E92 M3, and have something newer, lower miles, faster, has a warranty, and looks just as good.
Again, pics or it didn't happen.

e24mpwr 10-06-2007, 10:32 AM I think you are doing yourself a disservice on several points.
First, you clearly don't know much about the car itself or BMW's. You need all the specifics: the specific color (which is on the shock tower under the hood), VIN, options, etc.
Second, you are wasting people's time without pictures. I did read the post about getting some this weekend, but...
Third, I think you are minimally $10K and more likely $20K off of your price, ESPECIALLY in the current market. I'm not quite as in tune with E30 M3 prices as I am the E24 M6 (but I do watch pretty closely), but in a decent market I'd say a top-end price for this car is low-mid $40K range. In todays market, I'd say upper $30K to low-$40's.
The SoCal area has a fair number of E30 M3 enthusiasts. I'd recommend you catch some on S14.net and get them to help you list the car. A collector/enthusiast is going to devalue the car based on the uncertainty of your lack of knowledge and specifics.
If your post count is all that is limiting you from posting pix, I'd recommend getting a Photobucket or Picassa Web Albums account and posting a link (just delete the "h" in "http" and list the text). I'd also be happy to host them for you if you'll give me your e-mail address.
Good luck!

Barret Jackson would probably result in a "No sale" or a loss. Not a good forum to sell a car like this - a pretty specific and small group of enthusiasts...
...and would take a chunk for their fee.

I was thinking the same thing, Most of what sells at Barrett Jackson is american Muscle cars from the 60's and 70's. Most European Cars don't do any crazy numbers.
