is anyone considering either the m3 or m5 engine transplant into their z4?

http://www.g-power.de/781.html?&L=1

just for kicks - I pinged them for pricing... would V10 transplant would be close to 40k (with other internals)?

470-550 hp would be insane in our rides... but fun nonetheless to consider! :)

anyone look at the supercharger they have for the ///M.... 476 hp, thats like 400 to the wheel, not bad.

just wondering what the crazy price is

they also have a carbon air box that i would like to see a pic of, and a rear carbon diffuser, i am going to email them and see if they have any pics of those parts, and possible pricing!!!

There are a few Z3s out there with aluminum GM V-8s. A 505 HP (underrated) LS7 motor now costs about $13K and weighs about the same as the Z4M motor. More reasonably priced is the new 436hp LS3 motor, which should retail for around $6K.

that is true, but there are a lot of other things that have to be fabricated when you throw that motor in a car.... go talk to joez, he said it was worth it in the end, but it was more expensive than expected, and probably wouldnt do it again if he knew of all the issues he would run into beforehand...

still NOT 40k like an m5 swap, because the price of the motor alone is probably like 20-25, so obviously doing some type of vette swap would be cheaper, but it takes away from the soul of the car in my opinion

Probably untold heartache involved with the ECU for a swap, especially in a more recent BMW like the Z4 with all the systems that can be iffy in a stock car, much less in a Frankenstein.

Never thought an "LS7" search would bring me into the Z4 ghetto ;) But I appreciate the swap talk going on....you guys should head over to the engine conversions forum for some real interesting stuff

rey, can you point me to the other members with the v8 swapped Z3's? I searched and searched, but other than a few e36ers I haven't been able to find any other e36/7 or e36/8 folks that have done this swap other than myself.

When did I ever say I wouldn't do it again? If I did, then I'll have to go edit those posts because I must've been posting drunk again. I would most definitely do it again. I learned a lot about auto mechanical and electrical systems while doing this project, and in the end I have a ridiculously fast car :evil2

i swore you said you wouldnt have because it was a lot of work then originally expected...

besides the fact its fast, thats obvious, just the pain of getting it to 100%, maybe i am wrong, but i think i remember you saying that SOMEWHERE on a post at one time, maybe i was drunk reading it though :)

still havent seen this car yet in person, and i have been meaning to for however long its been done now!

Ahh, I vaguely remember what you're talking about. Yeah, for the $$ I spent on the Z, I could've kept it supercharged and well setup..........then spent this same amount to hook up an FD LS1. That was my mindset for a while ( the pain of paying nearly $3k for custom long tubes was fresh). I still think the FD LSx swaps are sechs. But I don't think I'll sell my Z anytime soon.

Oh, I don't think I would, only a big family emergency would force me to sell....there is just too much sentimental value in this thing. Although, I have considered building similar cars for a few people who were interested in making offers on mine.

LS6 is a great motor (I'm using a lot of LS6 parts on mine). If I were to build a monster right now, I'd probably start with an LS2 and go from there :evil2

I got a very nice email from g-power - 90k euros for the v10 conversion to the z4 3.0 and 8 weeks to do it.

Wow. Could own a very nicely mod'd 911 TT for that... but it's clearly for folks where money isn't an object.

It is philosophical question. Why landing on the moon, when the money can be spent for feeding starving children in Africa?
