View Full Version : Any Mainers in here? I do not see too many Bimmers around So. Maine Silvbullit 08-28-2007, 08:24 PM Where are you? Any autocrossers? black328 08-28-2007, 08:40 PM Not many bimmers up here in bangor. Pinkham64 08-28-2007, 10:47 PM yo i see ur bimmer when i pick my girl up in the am at work on forest ave ur is the one in the sig. im going to modden my during the winter(nothing else to do while it sits) TambourineMan 08-29-2007, 05:24 PM I'm from Maine, but living in exile in Taxachusetts although I have a summer place there. I don't have BMW (yet). Is Bill Dodge in Westbrook the only BMW dealer in southern Maine? Are they any good? JWBrockman 08-30-2007, 12:34 AM I'm a mainer - though I'm not on here much. I'm also a pretty hard core autocrosser. My '98 328i is my daily driver though, not my autocross car, I have a Miata for STS2. To be honest, I have barely driven the Bimmer since the weather's been nice. Top down in the summer is great. So how come I haven't seen you at any autocrosses this year? Our local club's website is here: http://www.cumberlandmotorclub.com . Next event is this Sunday in Windham. You can ride along in my Miata for a run if you want. I might even bring the 328 to this event, I just put some Bridgestone RE-01Rs on it and I want to see how they work on a big car :). Schermer 08-31-2007, 08:07 PM im pretty much as so.Maine as you can get, second to kittery. Schermer 08-31-2007, 08:10 PM I'm a mainer - though I'm not on here much. Autowerkes, Freeport Rte 1 for all around work. Voit Riche has great rep. bird67 09-01-2007, 07:57 AM Bill Dodge is it for retail dealer. Not bad for retail sales, warranty work and they have an excellent and friendly parts department. Once the car is out of the warranty, however, stay far, far away. Freeport has Autowerkes Maine (Voit Rich) for repair work, he's the best in the state. Silvbullit 09-03-2007, 02:20 PM I will be at the autocross at the Windham Mall on the 16th. I had cords showing on my tires and I badly needed an alignment. It was really tail happy which was super fun but not very grippy. No need to scoot around in a Miata even though it is fun. I have no problem taking my Bimmer around the "lot." I have no need for a local Bimmer mechanic since I do everything myself but thanks. Everyone is a VW fanatic around here. JWBrockman 09-04-2007, 12:46 AM No need to scoot around in a Miata even though it is fun. I have no problem taking my Bimmer around the "lot." You might have second thoughts about that once you see how much faster my Miata is (I would rate it about 1-1.5 seconds faster around our typical courses than my 328i). I really missed my little old homo car this Sunday, it's in the garage getting a clutch, so I had to race the Bimmer instead :). Look for red Miata #36 if you want to say hi on the 16th. (Not to be confused with red Miata #24, red Miata #15, or red Miata #31 :)) Silvbullit 09-09-2007, 03:53 PM My uncle will be there with a blue Miata with quite a bit of suspension work. I have driven it and yeah, it does blow my Bimmer away for grip but my car is still entertaining as hell to drive. Silvbullit 09-26-2007, 06:23 PM Not a huge BMW following out here... nothing but VWs. With poor weight distribution and front drive. They must all be afraid of the snow with rear drive and limited slip! Hey wait! Isn't that a Corrado in my sig.... ares0311 09-26-2007, 10:59 PM Whats up everyone, I'm in Maine, South Portland. I just got my M on Saturday, I have a Cosmos M3 with black vaders. I was at school tonight and saw a TV M3 in the lot with e46? rims on it, smoked corners, lux package... I was seeing if they were on here. There certainly is not much of a BMW precense in Maine, which I love. I'm coming from the VW scene and everyones car looked the same. Any way I can't post a picture yet since I "haven't been approved".... But its Cosmos with clear corners and currently on DSII's. BBS CH's are in the basement waiting on rubber. Throw a wave out if you see me. I'm always around SoPo to Biddo. -Adam andrew0790 10-08-2007, 01:43 PM I'm up here in woolwich. I've got a Zinerot E30 325iX. And do watch out for Brockmans Miata...it's been known to gobble cones up :P jladdm3 10-08-2007, 09:16 PM I'm in. JaredM3 10-08-2007, 09:20 PM Im around Lebanon and Sanford on the weekends. I sometimes take a ride to Biddeford too. There arent too many BMWs that I see, I raced an E30 4 door grey sounded like it had a cam in it, rough idle and it was pretty quick too, also a bunch of racing stickers...back in the spring. giantrobot9000 10-14-2007, 06:28 PM Hey guys...add me to the club. Just bought a 95 Cosmo M3 this past week. Stock-look with euro headlights and corners/sidemarkers, ACS exhaust (for now), lowered. Man, I love it. I also have a few other cars (including a Miata as well....what's up Josh!). ares0311 10-16-2007, 04:47 PM Quick image now that I can post pictures: My 99 M3 in So. HaroldC 10-17-2007, 10:13 AM I'll be moving up to the Portland area soon enough, and rocking the Rover for the winter. But every once in a while when the weather is nice...... the e46 comes out to play. I've also got a buddy with an e36 M3 in the area as well. Any interest for a little get together? Maybe later this fall or winter? ares0311 10-17-2007, 10:56 AM I'm down for a gtg. My winter car is a 95 jetta, but the heat blows hot, has a roof rack and a remote starter so I'm ready. ares0311 10-17-2007, 10:58 AM Hey wait! Isn't that a Corrado in my sig.... Hey Silvbullit- Do you hang out with any of the VW guys in Southern Maine, or are you on northeasteuro.com / mainevwscene.com? -Adam NHskibm 10-17-2007, 01:03 PM winter car is a 1989 325ix and it can been seen at Sunday River and Sugarloaf many many times From november to may... giantrobot9000 10-17-2007, 05:53 PM Ares0311...I've seen your car around. Very nice. Love the CHs! Mine looks similar but stock wheels and no spoiler. I'd be up for a gtg sometime. I'll be driving my Volvo most of the winter, but the M3 and others will come out once in a while. It's better to drive them than to let them sit a long time! Silvbullit 02-28-2008, 01:48 PM I'm going to revitalize this thread since spring is in the air... except for the snow that is. My 325i will be finished for April so I am excited to roll that thing out. My buddy and roommate just bought an e46 M3 and we will both be flogging our cars at the local autocross and at least I will most likely be driving like a dink around town as usual. I'll be doing the slolam course also known as Forest Ave almost daily...that should be fun. Mainers chime in. dogwalker 02-28-2008, 03:19 PM I've been managing to run my vert at least once every two weeks. Got a ride in last Saturday before the melt had ruoff on all the roads. I'm avoiding the salt. BUT, it's almost impossible to avoid the potholes! Warren Ave., Forest Ave., Steven's Ave., Brighton Ave. I live in Westbrook and the roads are absolute crap there too. Good Luck! A4Driver 02-28-2008, 03:34 PM I'm right accross the border in Portsmouth, NH..I head up to Portlant every once and a while...maybe once a month. I actually bought my M3 off of a VW Head from Maine 3 years ago. :) I never see M's in Maine... TambourineMan 02-28-2008, 06:29 PM I live in exile - except for weekends in the summer (which is coming - so, please get those potholes fixed). I guess i am now either a "summer jerk," or "from away." HaroldC 02-28-2008, 06:47 PM I haven't brought up the M3 yet, mostly because of the snow and the lack of grip during the cold (406rwhp doesn't help). And the potholes in and around Portland are getting worse each day! Each day I swear that they get larger, deeper, and also multiply! Maybe they'll 'patch' the potholes or maybe do it correctly and repave. (not holding my breath because it's just too expensive) When it becomes smooth once again, I'll bring the e46 up. Pinkham64 02-28-2008, 10:34 PM my car will be done cosmetically once the snow stops. needs a paint job asap. also putting m3 kit on it. right now i just got FDM, and UUC Pulleys. i live across the street from the golf course in sopo so you will see me around. panish 02-29-2008, 12:57 AM Hey, never noticed this thread... I'm always around Portland and I have been going to the CMC autocross' and will this year once the season starts again. Would love to set up a meet or something...most of the car meets I know about are pretty ricey as far as I am concerned... Can't wait for Spring/Summer!!! dogwalker 02-29-2008, 12:45 PM I live in exile - except for weekends in the summer (which is coming - so, please get those potholes fixed). I guess i am now either a "summer jerk," or "from away." I moved up here from Quincy back in the seventies. I'm originally from New Bedford. I bought a new Chevy Laguna "73" right off the showroom floor from President Chevrolet on the Southern Artery. Gas prices immediately jumped from the oil embargo and hasn't been the same since. I love getting down to the southeast expressway a couple of times a year just to do the bumper to bumper at 80MPH. Weekdays are great for that but the weekend driving is too scarey. Too many non commuters in the passing lanes. TambourineMan 02-29-2008, 01:39 PM I was not a fan of the big dig and still am not. It seemed like a waste of money as it did not really add any lanes. But it has helped my weekend commute to my cottage but I don't know if that is worth $20 billion. The three lanes to Portland is also great. Now if they could just by pass the Route 1 Saugus area, it would be even better. Last summer I started seeing some laser on the pike. Has the level of that picked up? FredK 02-29-2008, 01:43 PM Weekdays are great for that but the weekend driving is too scarey. Too many non commuters in the passing lanes. All lanes are passing lanes. jk I think the Big Dig improved things. Maybe not worth the money, but I like the change. Silvbullit 02-29-2008, 08:12 PM I keep tryin to turn some wrenches in the garage and just one cold knuckle smack and I get pissed and quit. I am sick of this cold shit. Pinkham64 02-29-2008, 11:28 PM try working outside of your garage bc your g/f is a packrat and keeeps everything. i just changed all heating, and put some pulleys on my car two weeks ago all outside. now i just gotta throw my brakes on. and maybe an inspection sticker but there overrated treadwm 03-01-2008, 11:50 PM Add one Bimmer to the ME group! Just got back from NY with a 2003 M3 w/ 22k mi! One owner, garage queen. 'Almost' felt bad about driving it back from NY through the snow. Now if we can just get some snow meltage going on so I can enjoy it properly... Pinkham64 03-02-2008, 12:52 AM Welcome Man! dogwalker 03-02-2008, 01:12 PM How about just showing up in the deepest parking lot at Ft. Been in our office here in Portland near the mall since 6:30 this morning and the weather just sucks! Sleet, ice, slush and even foggy in parts. They say sun by though!!! Silvbullit 03-06-2008, 01:31 PM Good thing I have an old A6 with a lift kit for the veritable minefield that is Forest Ave. I couldn't imagine driving my Bimmer over those effing railroad tracks. We just might have a little posse going on here finally. Now we need some cars that are actually fast to compete with all the boosted wrong-wheel drive VWs around. It should be fun to create a little rivalry since I know so many VW peeps since I used to be a Corrado nut. Also, there are a few of us going to Montreal for the Formula One this summer...should be ripe with debauchary. Good times and Monteal goddesses...and F1. chuckd1356 03-06-2008, 02:42 PM Welcome Kittery morning person! I know a guy how swears by it but his reasons wouldn't really apply to me. (stuff like DIY, forum, discounted parts) Well the forum and DIY are free with basic sign up and I also have 5 other forums that I browse. And he was talking discounted parts from dealers, which most of us probably use online retailers / wholesalers to get parts. Basically he is from a different generation and doesn't utilize the internet the same way most of us on here probably do, so I need to find out if it would be worth my money for the membership from someone who has the same online abilities as generation X. Other forums, myspace, facebook, blogs, where ever you can. I don't know if we will get enough or if it will make it to the ballots but its worth a shot. -Adam DinanS3 04-16-2008, 06:27 AM Wow no more drilling into the front bumper. Silvbullit 05-01-2008, 01:44 PM About the M3 at either forest ave. or northgate Starbucks, if it was a silver E46 dark gunmetal factory wheels, that was me getting my coffee fix. The subframe is almost fixed, but I don't think BMW would give me much free service for my 1992 325i with 170,000 on it. I really should just buy a coffee machine, mokador or french press. How long has the car been in for the sframe fix? Silvbullit 05-05-2008, 11:54 PM I should post pics because the subframe fix turned into a complete repaint, new wheels that needed serious rolling of the rear fenders, Tokico adjustable suspension, adjustable rear lower control arms, Racing dynamics sways bars, all new M3 suspension bushings front and rear, cross drilled and slotted rotors, valve cover repaint and new gasket, AC removal, unused junk removal, new component speakers all around, UCC M3 flywheel, new guibo disk (that thing was ready to explode,) new cat-back, new diff fluid, new tranny fluid...I am probably forgetting something. It has been off the road now for three or four months. I miss driving it. I am driving my friend's 03 325i with an open diff and it is not nearly as fun as my old E36 with limited slip. Now the only weak point autocrossing is me, I can't use the car as an excuse. This week the car will be back together and in the road!:redspot DinanS3 05-10-2008, 08:12 AM I should post pics because the subframe fix turned into a complete repaint, new wheels that needed serious rolling of the rear fenders, Tokico adjustable suspension, adjustable rear lower control arms, Racing dynamics sways bars, all new M3 suspension bushings front and rear, cross drilled and slotted rotors, valve cover repaint and new gasket, AC removal, unused junk removal, new component speakers all around, UCC M3 flywheel, new guibo disk (that thing was ready to explode,) new cat-back, new diff fluid, new tranny fluid...I am probably forgetting something.
