Hi, I have installed ver44 GT1 using vmware on my laptop and I am having trouble connecting to the diagnostic head with the LAN cable. In the GT1 system settings IP addresses shown are 192.168.68.30 netmask 255.255.255.0. The network LEDs are lit up in the upper right for computer only, am I missing something here? Thanks

Personally I dislike using VMware to use Gt1 software. I would try to get it into a clean install e.g. no emulation thru windows/linux. As for connectivity, all I can say is go to sysadmin (I can't recall the excat steps now, But I can pull up a .doc on this sometime soon). While in the VMware menu and make sure the nic card which Unix will detect is setup thru vmware properly to allow incoming and outgoing connections, which would be emulated onto your physcial nic card (Vmware one should be identified as a AmdNET Nic). The .doc by shoulders explain to very great detail, I'll see if I can get it uploaded onto here, but if you need it fast you should be able to do a quick google search onto a few groups and be able to spot it quickly. I also thought Vmware had the mouse problem, which then rendered Gt1 emulated useless in the first place.
Thanx for the update, I'll try to track down the .doc and recheck my network settings in the vmware and physical network card.

It works perfectly in vmware when setup properly (it's a bit of a pain but the process is documented) and you don't need a diagnostic head anymore, that can be emulated in software now.
Hi eleet,
What software is available that emulates the diagnostic head? I've been using INPA with the original BMW cable that connects to the COM port and has the 20 pin round connector with a 20pin to OBD adapter. These cables were used for the car key memory tablet computers in the BMW sales dept.
I wanted to get the network card working so I can use the orange head to diagnose the newer D-CAN vehicles. Any info is always appreciated...Thanx to all!

I wrote a small program to do this and shared it with some of my users for testing. Mostly it works but needs improvement.
