i know it's a broad question, but i'm thinking of switching from active duty to reserves, being stationed at March AFB to finish my degree+ROTC then fly with the March AFB unit:help

yes those are very close to the base. RCC has 3 campuses, one there in moval, in norco, and in riverside.

any state college's in the immediate area? and where is a reasonable place to live near there? i don't want to commute 18 hours a day, but i hear the immediate area around the base is quite the shit hole

I graduated from UC Riverside. The city and school have changed a lot in the past 5 yrs due to all the Asians coming in. It's not the crap hole it used to be back in 2000.

what is the living situation like there? will i have to live in a shit hole with bars on the windows just to get by?

If i do this, i'll be on reserve status with March AFB, which means i'll only have to be there one weekend a month. with that said i don't have to share fences with the flightline, i jsut don't want to be driving carmel to riverside for my weekend duty!

Seems like UCR is a good choice. It's a good school and there are a couple board members who go there. My wife graduated from there in '98 too.
