This should probably be in the Track/Auto-x subforum instead of Professional Motorsports. A quick search turned up several threads, but I didn't go through each one to specifically answer your question.

Here's a start though:

I have in writing from my State Farm Agent that I am covered. With my full coverage insurance on the M3 I am covered for "Drivers Education" and can use my own vehicle.

However anything involving the word "racing" IE an SCCA Race School I would not be covered. Auto-X I am not covered as it is a "competition and racing" and time trial etc would be out.

DE's are in :)

I talked to Wawanesa and they said basically the same thing. If it is a non-competitive driving event you should be fine. I probably should get that in writing though...

Your policiy will state what your exlusions are. Don't rely on what an agent says. For example... driving schools might be OK, but there might be an exlusion for any activity on a closed course. If the driving school (DE) is at an race track, you won't be covered.

Read your policy, and realize that every 6 months another company that used to cover DEs are dropping their coverage.

And I agree, this should be in track/auto-x

Edited - must expire after a bit. Anyway, you can go to the track/auto-x forum and search for "insurance coverage."

A friend of mine was told he was covered but a year later when he checked again, they had changed his policy. One of those things falling under "we reserve the right to change this stuff whenever we want."

X2. I also have it in writing from my State Farm Agent...with the exact same disclaimers(cannot say race or be a competition event)

Is that a fact? Or are you saying "some" policies or "your" policy, etc.

Read it as a paragraph rather than extracting out the sentence...it will make more sense. ;)
