My dads about/thinking of buying a 1999 BMW 528i Sport. Its black and it has 116,000 miles. Anything i need to know to help us use to negotiate the price a little lower? i gotta 318i and it had cooling problems... this common in e39's? thanks

Almost all BMW's have cooling system problems. The E39 is not exempt. Tell your dad to make sure that the cooling system has been looked after. I'd be looking for new radiator hoses, new radiator, new fan clutch, new water pump, and new thermostat.
Also be sure to ask what the history of the transmission has been. Has it had the fluid changed regularly, has it not been changed, or has it recently been changed for the first time. I'd stay away from an E39 with over 100k miles and just recently had the trans fluid changed for the first time....
If the car has a check engine light on, make sure that get's checked out....

Once you've given it the once over and feel comfortable, take it to an indy mechanic and have a PPI performed.
