History
This car was purchased in 1984 by my father in PA. it currently has 215k, original motor.
This car was shipped from PA to AZ in 1990, and then shipped to Amiens, France in 1991 for three years of European driving. While in France, it recieved the Yellow Headlight conversion and european liscence plates. The car was driven daily about 5 miles to work and back. My father did not convert it to european bumpers at that time. It was then shipped back to AZ in 1993 where it now resides. the car is a weekend driver and has been garaged all its life.

Im loving every minute of this car and am learning as much as i can from it.

RDAvena
03-12-2003, 06:46 PM
Alpina at Buchloe. It was not confirmed until I sent the vin and the id plate number to them. There were a lot of other items added (according to the tech sheets) but the po or the one before had taken those details off. It "had" a full suspension kit and the extended range tank. The only things left were the stripes (passenger side) and the engine. Took a scope to the combustion chamber and they are hemispherical. The pistons are different as well. But little by little I am bringing he back to life.

very nice, did u get the car repainted? or just the side view mirrors?
did zender make two different side skirts? cuz the ones i got are flared at the end....they go up a little around the wheel wells.
one last q, how do u like the volvo 4 pot upgrade?

for pics, it's best if u can find a host/somewhere to upload them.....or u can upload one pic per post from ur computer (if u click on 'post reply' towards the bottom of this thread, then u'll see that u can attach files to ur post.....just above the 'submit reply' button)

Jbob,

Yes Zender did make the two styles but the difference was in the rear apron. One was ribbed and the other was flat. And the sideskirts pretty much all the zenders were flat. The BBS did have the extended piece that went up on the wheelwells.

The volvo 4 pots are great. They have a lot more grab than the stock ate calipers and with the PBRs from Auto zone they take a bit longer to start fading, more like a lot longer. I also added the e12 master cylinder and you can feel the difference in the pedal with the added piston diameter.

Forgot about the paint, the po had painted the car due to a fender bender and the front is a different color than the rest of the car. Graphit and the rest is Ascot. The mirrors were painted some time before it was brought over because it is the same Ascot grau as the rest of the car.

Thanks for the pic tips. We'll see if car domain does not mind :D

Engine Swap

jbob

awesome!!!!
what spring rates and lengths did u get for ur ground controls? and how's the ride?

is ur car track-only or streetable?

yay, engine swap (i think u told me before ;) , thats' gonna be one helluva e21 :devillook ). how close are u to swaping engines?

G.J. Dixon
03-15-2003, 12:44 AM
Springs are 2.5 inch ID 6 inches long, 500lb front, 400lb rear

It is a street driven car! The ride is stiff around town, especially on a bumpy road, but if you are on a highway its not bad.

The engine is in the car, however its not running yet.

Now, if I can get all the runoff that went into my garage and froze to become an ice skating rink in my garage, I may actually be able to get it finished! :D

jbob
03-15-2003, 01:21 AM
whoa 500 & 400......she must handle like a dream on the track tho.
how low do u usually have the car while driving it on the streets?

also, have u done any urethane bushings in the chassis and suspension?

G.J. Dixon

Due to the fact that I really know the capabilities of my car, not many cars (or drivers for that matter) push their cars as hard as I do in the corners.

I remember a couple of years ago at Lime Rock, I was doing a drivers school with the BMW Club and someone showed up with an ALMS Dodge Viper GT2 Race Car for the event for some practice. This car was unbelieveably fast! The one funny thing that kept happening during the day (which says alot), He would go flying past me on the front straight like I was standing still, then start hitting the brakes to slow down for Turn 1. Me in my underpowered gokart didn't have to brake till much later. I would actually catch him as we turned in to Turn 1 and I would start sticking the nose of my car inside of him in the turn. Since it was only a school I couldnt' pass him in the turn, but I think if it was allowed, I could have! I shouldn't be able to catch a car like this going into that turn.

The coilover kit has 4 inches of adjustment from top to bottom. For street driving I leave it close to the middle point of adjustability. For certain track events and autocrosses, I will either raise the car or lower the car. Most of the time, I will lower the car 1 inch from where I normally have it. At the middle point, the Factory IS front spoiler sits about 2 inches off the ground. If I lower the car all the way, I can get the front spoiler down to 3/4 of an inch off the ground, however, I can't really drive the car at this height due to the suspension practically being bottomed out. Maybe if I had 2000lb race springs in the car I could! :D

the only urethane bushings in the car are the swaybar mounting brackets, other then that all other suspension bushings are stock!

Big and smalls look real nice for headlights. I have them on my current e28 project. I thought about going that route for the e21 but decided the Elips would give more light . I am also going to upgrade the wiring to the relays and thicker wires for the headlamps. This way I can turn night into day :D just kidding.

http://www.e21alpina.com/mycar.html

The car is a 1982 BMW-ALPINA C1 2.3. It has a BMW vin number as ALPINA did not have there own vin numbers in those days. Like many common ALPINAS this one was not actually built by ALPINA it was built be the Sytner Group in the UK. The Sytner Group which is unique in being the only firm allowed to build ALPINAS outside Buchloe. In 1982 the car was taken by the original owner to Sytner to have all the upgrades done to the car, some time around 1986 the car was brought to the US via the Gray-market import. Around 1995 it was pit to rest in a yard where it sat till I found it, I can tell you that the car is in great shape for the years it has. The car comes with the C1 2.3 170bhp engine ALPINA wheels and lowered suspension, getrag 5-speed gear box, limited slip diff, ALPINA interior with Recaro seats, ALPINA design steering wheel, multi-spoke alloy wheels by APLINA, BBS front air dam the original APLINA front air dam was broken when the car was brought to the US and the US owner replaced it with the BBS one, I do have the original front air dam but it is broken I'm going to see about fixing it or getting a replacement. It also has the ALPINA badge on the dash (see photo) I will be updating as work progresses on the car.

OK guys my firend with the 323i racecar wants to sell. What do you guys think a 78 euro 323i with 5000 original miles is worth? It is a 4 speed with an lsd I think , all urethane suspension bushings, front strut brace, and original as well as Alpina wheels. Rusted body panels have been repaired and it's been resprayed.

The engine has one problem that worries me. When we first picked the car up my buddy beat on it and it broke. The crankshaft balancer pully came loose from the crankshaft and wobbled around distorting the shape of either the pulley or the crakshaft (not sure which) so it's shimmed and running well but this seems like an important component that should be properly repaired. Any idea how? What about how much?

Also interior is tired original vinyl with new carpet what can I do to restore/upgrade it?

Thanks in advance for the info.

This type of thread is a sticky at the top of all the chassis forums. I don't think there's much that can be done. Looks like someone is trying to get it so newbies can look and see easily what everyone's got.....maybe.

Anyway, here's mine:

'81 320i
Safari Beige that HAD tan interior, AC, factory stereo

253,xxx miles on the car (a year ago)
153,xxx miles on the odo (HAD to have a 120mph speedo, found one with almost exaclty 100K miles less)

Took in as trade from a buddy in Feb '02 (1.5years ago). He was buying my MkIII Jetta GLX, didn't need the e21 anymore and I needed a daily car since I was selling him the Jetta. Settled it as $1500 of the payments. I'm at least the 4th owner (I think).

Mods: Front bumper removed, rear seat/panels removed, AC condensor removed & belt cut, OZ Racing 15x7 Basket Weaves (NLA), some Sony Explode tape deck the 2nd owner put in, 320is Recarro's in black leather, black interior door panels, right side mirror (in Alpine White from donor car)

Almost mods: TEP rear shock brace/battery relocaction/funnel intake kit. It's sitting in my storage unit waiting to be put in. Also going to remove the AC compressor since I've already cut the belt. The blower motor sounds like crap, and I had THOUGHT that the thing was empty of freon, so I started pulling the whole system when I was trying to get the condenor out for better airflow over the radiator. It wasn't empty (all of it came out in my face!!), but now the stuff is not worth anything since I'm part way through the (violent) removal process. It doesn't need AC anyway....that's what the windows are for! Less weight = :redspot

Future plans: Cibie CSR's, suspension, sway bars, motor swap.

I'm thinking of doing the M42 like Nic, esp since I've got a '91 318iS that I want to do a swap on as well. This was I don't even have to worry about sourcing the M42 from some yard! This will sound strange, but I want a newer M42 for the e30. There is a method to my madness....the DASC blower works on the newer M42, but not the e30 ones. I don't NEEED the DASC on the e21, since it doesn't have to be my fast car. I'll have the 318iS, M3 and a beastly e23 for that....

jbob
10-24-2003, 02:12 PM
cool, two engine swaps!
putting a m42 into the e21 will already make it pretty dam quick (since the car is soo light to begin with)....nic's car feels a lot faster than my mom's stock 89 325i. :buttrock

oh yeah, do u have any pics? i wanna see the wheels :D (do they look just like the 15" BBS basketweaves?)

hahaha, and i remember when nic and i had a little race off a light.....he bogged the launch but still managed to fly by when i was around 30-40mph. and this was before he installed the chip & 3.91:1 differential. dammit, where's my turbo :evil2 lol.

Pics will be coming....uh, today! I've got some at home on the computer, just never uploaded them anywhere. I'll start a new thread with those. I've got an ImageStation account and I know how to post the pics from it elsewhere, so I'll post the link to the album and a few choice shots.

Oh, and I almost forgot. The car has a rebuilt head from BME with their performance option. I think that means it's ported/polished, pretty sure it's a stock cam, but I dunno since it was done by the 2nd owner. This was back at 241K on the clock. The motor smells like it's burning oil when you take it up past 3500rpm, so I'm thinking maybe the rings need to be done too.

thanks for the link to the manual. those are still the 2.0 engine though. no worries though i am getting my manual here at college this weekend. :-)

I just found this forum, I've heard of it before but never tracked it down until today.

I bought a decent '82 320is last March. Check my website at http://myspot.neteze.com/~kdanielson to see the whole story and some tech stuff.

Here's the specs:
Engine:
1.8L block
2.0L crank/pistons
E21 casting head w/mild porting
272 deg. cam
New 2.5/2.25" exhaust
Volvo radiator
check my website for future plans

Chassis:
early vented disk brakes
stainless braided hoses
front strut brace
rear strut brace/battery holder
14x6 E30 wheels
205/60 Sumitomo htr 200 tires
Eibach sport springs
KYB struts/shocks

Body:
Henna red (arrest me red) will be changed in the future
310,000 mi.
Front bumper tuck (done right, not just drilled shocks)
needs new front spoiler, the original was broken in the center
cheap paint job-looks good from 20'

Interior:
UUC short shift w/carbon fiber shift nob
Pioneer CD player
A few cracks in the dash pad but I know a guy with 2 perfect pads in his garage for free!! but I've gotta take a bunch of other 320i stuff that I don't need...
Recaro seats, I don't like them much. Drivers side is pretty beat, passenger side is good. I'll replace them with aftermarket one of these days.

I have previously owned an '83 320i for 7 years and an e29 M5 for a year so I'm not new to BMWs.

Hi Ken:

I got into your website and read up on your background. I must say, yours mirrors that of mine, almost too eerily. I dabbled with hot rods too, they were '69 nova-ss (396ci+TH400+3.73:1, then LT1+4sp+4.11:1), '68 malibu (LT1+4sp+4:56:1), V8 Vega wagon(LT1+P/glide+Monza3:73:1), '69z/28(302+4sp+4:11:1). I also inherited a VW bus-camper style. I used it to squeeze in 17 people in that camper and paid one price to a drive-in movie a few times.

I spent several years driving an '86 535i. So I can only imagine how much fun you've had w/ your M5.

WRT machinery, I have two mig hobbyist welders Hobart 175+Lincoln 135; Might be getting a commercial TIG next week. I design & program CNC sheetmetal parts in my former career. Bend allowance/deductions is nothing new to me.

I just scooped up a Dayton 20" drill press, tool chest, bench grinder, and some work tables at an auction yesterday. I got outbidded on a CNC Bridgeport vertical mill ... but had I won, I wouldn't have known where to put it, and how to feed 230v 3-phase to it. But I still want one, and today or tomorrow, I'm going to look at an empty commercial lot and see if this could hold a bridgeport. Maybe I'll go into business whittling out speed parts. Maybe I'll just end up with another useless tool.

I took a shot of what I brought home w/ me yesterday. Hope it uploads....

Hello, I got lucky with the zf sports steering rack, Maxillian Imports
found 5 from zf. So I went ahead and got the 3rd of the 5.
I dont think you can really get this part.

Its not on my car right now due to the fact I am still trying to finish the final painting of the car.

However I have been told by Paul at Maximillan this rack is "Like lightspeed"
when you turn. It allows a quicker response than standard.

I am also working on the engine upgrade to a 2.8 liter stroker with knife edged 524td crank.

Doing body work right now, it will be painted gloss black in a few weeks. Hi, my name is Todd and I am an E21er.
I have been a long time E21 Digest member and just found this through Nic.
My car is an '82 2nd owner, Graphite Metallic, 214,000mi daily driver, auto-xer and track day car.
Cosmetic - Macco (yes Macco) respray over a never wrecked 97% rust free chassis, Zender front and rear spoilers, euro bumpers, Audi 4000 leather buckets, small Grant 3 spoke wheel, AutoMeter phantom series mechanical oil pressure gauge, crappy stereo, rear lic plate moved below bumper.
Performance - M42, 5spd, 2002 tii flywheel, heim-jointed fully adjustable custom front end (similar to the one VAC sells but of my own design), Bilstein sports on 4 corners, 350lb coil overs on front, unknown rate rears (came off a 323 ITE car), 19mm rear bar, 1" front bar, camber plates, rear sub-frame bushing with filled voids, urethane trailing arm bushings, Arrdvarc racing rear disk kit, 77 vented front brakes, braided brake lines, Griffin aluminum radiator, cut-off shift lever with billet knob, trunk mounted battery.
Plans - am working with Nic on a turbo system, stand alone engine management, put back together and install the LSD on my bench, get some seats that aren't falling apart.

Mods:
added new speakers in the back, put in new stereo system.

What I want to do with it:
Since its an old car, slowly I am replacing things. I need to add speakers in the front of the car, need to fix the A/C (just need pully and something else). and fix the heater ( dunno why it doesnt work)...

Hey nice car fatpat, 1 question, with all the mods u have done excluding engine why fit a anti stress bar (Strut Brace) if your engine is standard to factory power?, if mods are to take place, it would be advised as to change the injection system to an E30 323i motronic system and re-mapp or chip that ECU and also fit a big bore throttlebody, air intake and RRRRRIIIIPPPPP the exhaust of and shove a 6 branch downpipe 4/2/1 all the way back using the E21 323i exhaust system or better , rip the engine out and stick an e32 325 engine in, cheaper for horses, dont ya think..

Good Luck mate :D

Here's my very recently acquired E21. It's a UK import 323i. 134000 original miles, right hand drive, close ratio 5 speed, bronze tint, and some other neat options. Plans are a mostly stock resto, starting with a colour change from Safaribeige to Kastanienrot, with a full custom interior utilising 320is Recaros in a black vinyl with dark grey cloth inserts. Wheels will be 13x6" BBS/Mahle, with 205/60/13 Falken Ziex 502. Suspension will get a mild shock and spring upgrade, and engine will be a 2.5, or 2.7(with 323i head), depending on what I get a deal on first! That's it for now. All work will be performed by myself, and my staff at the shop. This is my 3rd E21, and first Euro spec E21. It rounds out my small collection of BMW's quite nicely.

-Cold air intake, header, no cat, ansa muffler
-------------------------------------------------
Driveline:

-My exhaust is sorta scabbed together right now, using a $27 ebay header and ansa muffler that was damaged in the accident (it still hangs kinda crooked). I am going to weld up a single 2.5in mandrel bent exhaust splitting to dual 2in at rear subframe w/ 2.5in stainless tips. Not sure what mufflers to use yet.
-Rear strut tower brace w/ battery tray
-Dual centerforce clutch (with the turbo)
-Large diameter 2 piece slotted front rotors
-Polyurethane control arm bushings and poly filled subframe mounts
-Camber plates...

the car as I bought it
1981 BMW 320is Schwartz with the 15 inch bbs basketweaves front and rear, Boge sport struts and springs lowered about 1.5 inches, bbs front air dam, bbs sideskirts, close ratio five speed, 4.10 limited slip rear end. Ansa cat back exhaust.

I bought this about three years ago from a guy who purchased it to use as a daily driver but was unable to keep it running, he had stored it in his garage for about a year because the car would die on him all the time. he purchased it from a young kid who had been working on building an autocross racer but managed to get himself in trouble with the law due to street racing, his parents forced him to put the car up for sale. I was able to purchase this car for only $500.00 and had never owned a BMW before, My brother had an M-Roadster at the time and I was heavily opposed to the BMW nameplate but I was in need of a car and I am a mechanic so I naturally bought it...we had to jump start it and I was only able to drive a few blocks befor the car died, I quickly determined the alternator ground was bad and made the repairs needed. the drive home was this cars winning moment! I fell in love with the way this car felt....so connected to the road...begging me to push it harder...

my future plans are a independent throttle body setup using megasquirt fuel injection, a whole new engine using longer rods and shorter pistons a wild cam dis ignition and polyurethane bushings everywhere I can put them. I plan on running this car in the silver state classic someday.

for now I have a Weber 32/36 on a 2002 intake and a 284 camshaft only because the k-jet was getting troublesome (I did notice a huge increase in power) also I have installed an electric cooling fan and ditched the old flyswatter, using an MSD6al ignition, and I removed the A/C completely! and all the heater parts, the interior insulation and anything else that added un-needed weight.

Im torn right now on what to do with the car. It is in excellent condition and part of me does not want to molest it with modifications. Then there is the other side that wants to swap in something inexpensive, turbo-charged, and capable of 300+ HP. I know the M10 can handle a lot, but it takes a wallet much larger than my own. Coming from a DSM background, i was thinking of something more along the lines of bimmubishi's car- a 4g63t swap or perhaps something lighter and still very potent. Japanese engines are the cheapest, easiest path to power, but im sure i would be shunned by the bmw loyalists- not to mention, i would rather my car retain a good resale value.

decisions, decisions.

Anyways, ill be around.

Thanks. I've got a long way to go if i do decide to mod this car. Fortunately the rest of the car only requires very minor restoration.

2 words american v8, truely the cheapest path to more power Possibly. Most 4cyl japanese turbo/SC engines come with forged rods and crank and can handle 200hp/liter in stock form. Plus low mileage imported engines are relatively cheap and easy to get.

and the right one aint all that heavy
I dont think so. A v8 would really ruin the wieght bias. I want a car that turns and accelerates with excellent performance. Im already afraid of the M20's wieght, let alone a v8! hehe.

Hi gang, new to the site.
I have a 77 320i that I purchased off my uncle for $1800.00. I'm almost done my mods which include lowering 1", front and rear strut bars, sport steering wheel, rims and tires, headers, dynomax exhaust, front bumper compression, fog lights, small stereo, engine and tranny rebuild, upgraded ignition, i think thats it so far.
Still need to install a set of Recaro's and a paint job.
I love driving and working on the car.
check out my pics.

Hi, I'm new to the BMW scene, I have mostly owned older vws and audis.

I couldn't pass up the opportunity to purchase my new '79 iberschrot 323i. It has 130k miles, recaros, OZ wheels and a nice suspension...

it has a few "issues" right now as it was stored since 1995 or so. Just picked it up today, so hopefully I'll be able to sort it out over the next week.

Hello,
here is my ongoing project: the 1976 320/4 Peters' cabriolet edition (noooo, not the "baur" edition.)

It is going through a severe restauration, to get a "killer-sleeper" look in show-condition.

Motor-transplant is a rebuilt, tuned and modified M50 engine with turbo. 6-gear tranny from M3 is ready, and I will mount parts from M5 E34 touring to the suspension. Deadline is season 2006 :help . Etc etc, but I will not reveal more yet.

But I am searching for stabilizer in front with 25mm, I do not know where they sell them...

If any interesse, i'll post a few pics here...

Car before dismantling, just came from sandblasting:

No interesting mods to relate here yet. I had previously driven a '76 2002 for a number of years, that car taught me how to drive. I don't really want to think back on why I still don't have that one, but anyway... A freind of mine let me know about this 320i sitting at his mechanics. Guess the lady that owned it would (or could) not cough up the money for the repairs she had ordered, lein sales are a pain but I could not resist. I had fun with the car for less than a year and once again things got complicated, ended up having to leave her with the best home I could come up with at the moment; what the heck, I taught my little sister to drive in my 2002 and she needed a car.
Long story made at least a little shorter I have the 320 back in my garage.
247,000 miles
White with blue interior (if I can call it that)
Rebuilt head,

Things I'd like to do in no particular order?
Not sure of which supplier I would go with on most of these but here goes:
Lowering springs (progressive and a touch stiffer) drop about 1-1.5 inches
Camber adjustments if needed at that point
Bilsteins
15x6.5 inch rims (something that looks like the ol' BBS basketweaves would be nice but I would like to drop weight)
Neoprene bushings
Front strut tower brace/ rear tower brace with battery realocation to the trunk
Rip out all the AC shit....
I could think of more but power is not really the priority, plenty of cars out there that will go fast as long as they don't have to turn....

Real World:.... pass smog

Okay,

I bought a 1979 BMW 320i the day after I turned 13, I am now 14 and have:

Done a complete brake job, new turbines, iS front spoiler, Kamie rear valence, they look like this http://b.im.craigslist.org/yY/Aa/atp1lTsJOsjjDHBwswYkfg990o5n.jpg
new, rewired stereo, Bavarian Autosprots 8mm spark plug wires(wow), and other small things.

The car came with: Sport steering wheel, Recaro seats, new alternator and a new windshield.

The car looked like this when I got it.
http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/8318/acecombat5edit1uz.jpg

And now looks like this with 167000 miles.
http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/3221/bmw0088edit7fn.jpg

The rust spot by the turn indicator still needs some attention.

i call it the rust bucket because some of the underside is rusty and is worse than the last car i briefly had. i polished it b4 i left in june, and its rained since then so,i guess it got dirty again. my dad is going to go get it detailed when it gets regestered.

OK I just got this car today, for FREE!!!!

YES! FREE!! The lady needed it GONE from the property. Landlord issue - dead car - bad. So I came to the rescue!

It had a bad ignition switch, the electrical part. I put the key in, turned it to the run position and and it hot-wired and drivable in 20 minutes.

Got it home and washed it and here she is:

10/83 320i
130k + miles (no sppeedo working)
5 speed
Paint, somethinmg a bit darker than the original lapisblau.

http://www.mauirecycling.net/bmwpics/320i_engineb4.jpg

It runs a bit weak, but it has been parked for over a year. :rolleyes
Still has plenty of life though and the body is unusually nice for this tropical envoronment I dwell in.

Mods: NONE
Needs: Shocks, tierod ends, ball joints, front tires, alignment, brake system o'haul and some TLC overall. ...and an ignition switch! :rolleyes

I love it.

hey guy's new to the boards,
i have an 81 320i. i don't have much done to it so far but she is a work in progress. so far i have fitted in a coil over set up from a 2000 ford focus, in the process of mounting a 95 integra gsr rear bumper, and i might throw on a 2000 civic "buddy club" front kit. and possibly install a set of tail lights from an 88 crx. I have big plans for this car but time alwaysseems to be an issue.
the car has 152,xxx Km on it, 5-speed. i would like to do amotor swap into this possible a 7m-gt from a supra, or even a 350. i would also like to turbo this motor but have no knowledge of mechanical fuel injection, and don't know if it is even possibly.
i'll be posting some pics as soon as i can.

Welcome to the board, if I were you. I would stick to alpina and other parts ment for the e21 for body styling. It looks a lot better.

yeah, it is your opinion, but I think (along with many people on the board I assume) that old Euro parts (Alpina, Hartge, etc.) look the best on the e21. But like I said, it's your opinion, and whatever you do, have fun with your e21.

Besides, it is your car anyway, so if you can make the Japanese parts work, go for it.

And since I guess I never REALLY posted my newer car in here, I guess I will now.

I bought a '83 320i (US) about a year and a half ago. It looked like it was bone stock except for the addition of an aftermarket head unit. The options it had were Sunroof, A/C, and Stereo (from what I've gathered of stock cars). It had been sitting under a tree for the better part of two years before I 'found it', thanks to a friend and fellow BMW nut that couldn't stand the site of this poor old BMW wasting away in his buddy's front yard. I made the guy an offer after we verified that it still ran (bad gas and recharged battery, etc). Took it home for $400.

Once home I stripped the inside of almost EVERYTHING that it didn't need, rear seats and panels, carpet, center console, A/C (everything from the condensor in the front through to the under dash portions and all the tubing and hardware in between), and the front bumper. I installed a set of 320is Recaro's I had bought for my last e21 (and kept for this one), as well as the 15x7 OZ Racing baskets (don't know the model, but they are NLA). I also eventually installed the TEP rear brace/battery tray I bought for my last e21 but never installed. This allowed me to move the battery to the trunk and install the TEP cone intake set-up that came with the package I bought from them. Once the center console was removed, the shifter was too high, so I took the easy/cheesy way out and hacked 2in off the shifter rod. It now has a better feel to it, and some of the 'slop' is gone since the geometry has changed a little (not fixed, just easier to ignore). I was lucky enough to get an e30 rear bumper from a fellow e21 nut that had already been modified to work on an e21. After painting it (poorly), it looks very much like a painted euro bumper, but is a bit lighter. A new Sachs clutch has been installed recently, and while that was being done it was discovered that this car has a 3.94 LSD (I had never bothered to check before since this was not an 'is' and it didn't FEEL like a LSD, mainly since I kept lifting inside rear tires).

So far I've removed just over 400 lbs from the car, but am looking to get even more off. There are a few more things in the interior that can go (stereo, dash maybe, door cards, lighter seats), as well as possibly getting lighter wheels, battery and exhaust (currently running NO muffler though). I am trying to get the car down to about 2000lbs or less, and currently am right about at 2200 lbs. I use it only for autoX events right now, but may be taking it on canyon runs once we start those up again down here in SD (and I get the starter swapped out).

Anyway, here are some pics, mainly for those of you that HAVEN'T seen them before...
