View Full Version : 335i coupe 6 spd vs. 07 Acura TL-S 6 spd
ZheHbKa 08-24-2007, 09:33 AM late at night i'm coming home on a two lane street, and for the bast couple of blocks i see this Acura riding my behind even though the lane to right of me was empty. we stop on the red, he stops next to me, by the wheels and body kit i notice thats a Type S, he stares at me and revs his engine. I ask: stick? he confirms. he sticks his head out looks at my car and asks: twin turbo?...
I tell him lets see what happens till about a 100. He confirms. Can't really go faster, 100 is a bit crazy for that Avenue but at night you can get away with it for a brief moment.
On the green we both go for it, we get about even wheel spin and immediately i get a CL jump, by mid 2nd gear im about 2 CL ahead, in the third reaching a 100 im about 4-5 CL ahead, hard to tell.
On the next red we exchange thumbs up and turn home
m3chaser 08-24-2007, 10:01 AM Nice. I love the new TL-S!
ohnoes 08-24-2007, 10:20 AM I was wondering how my 540 would fare against one. If you only pulled 4-5 CL by 100, I would probably be even! :eyecrazy :(
Montague 08-24-2007, 10:31 AM Bench racing will dictate that it should be closer with equal drivers. 335 still wins but not by 4-5 CLs. OP beat the driver that badly. Good kill.
M3Romeo 08-24-2007, 10:35 AM TL-S is a very nice car :)
ohnoes 08-24-2007, 10:37 AM TL-S is a very nice car :)
Yes, it is. I would love one as my daily driver, in some ways more than an E90. More reliable, more features, faster than the E90 I could afford (:stickoutt), pretty much has everything going for it but a) FWD, b) brand/prestige.

oh no.......your car is a very nice car:eek::eek::eek::eek:
speedfreak81 08-24-2007, 11:07 AM Good clean run, no B.S., respect from both parties.....that's how racing is done!!! Props man and good kill.

e31bubba 08-24-2007, 11:26 AM finally an import race with no ricer flyby. good race good kill.

I totally disagree. I think it sounds absolutely spot-on.

Disagree.
coastalM3 08-24-2007, 02:04 PM I'm gonna agree with the last 2 posts.
None of this "but if you had equal drivers", "if that car was FI", "if you were stock" BS! There's more to racing than equal cars equal drivers mumbo jumbo! Cars aren't equal...drivers aren't equal. Who cares if the other driver sucks?!? Heck I usually pray that the other driver sucks! LOL
Bozos that want everything to be equal all the time aren't worth the trouble.
Good kill.
valley325m 08-24-2007, 02:11 PM ur car is ..
Montague 08-24-2007, 02:40 PM I would've thought it would be closer than 4-5 cars. The TL-S' torque or shortness on torque compared to the 335 will do it in from a dig. It weighs less, not by much, but still less with similar hp. OP said it was hard to tell whether it was really 4-5 car lengths. I would not have thought so. Not doubt I prefer bmw over acura but sometimes we have to be realistic when it comes to other cars.
Deuuuce 08-24-2007, 05:22 PM I don't have the data, but can someone post the trap speeds recorded for the recent TL-S ? I know for the 335i they are about 105mph. I doubt the TL-S is over 100mph which further reinforces the possibility of 4-5 CLs.
PointMEby 08-24-2007, 05:43 PM a good clean kill story right there.
teflonjones 08-24-2007, 05:48 PM Nice kill with a nice car, and props to the other driver for racing the way it should be done, with respect and a great attitude.
Acura makes nice cars and all, but it's FWD, which isn't for serious performance. You can make one 500 HP and put a better suspension in it and do whatever you want, but in the end, it's still FWD. Can you say torque steer? And when was the last time you were able to use the throttle to kick out the rear end of a FWD car?

Answer: 14.28 s @ 99.88 mph
Nice Kill. I love my 335i coupe:buttrock.

You you drive backwards, you can kick out the "rear"! :D
A agree, nice car, nice kill. Torque steer, understeer, excessive wear on the front tires (steering and accelerating) front heavy weight distribution isn't ideal for braking either. Or for a good 60ft.
But, it's nice if you don't want to be too concerned about snow and rain!
M0nK3y 08-24-2007, 05:53 PM You got that car running stock? twin turbo putting out 300Hp? Anyways good story, good kill
mitchelrl 08-24-2007, 08:21 PM I wonder how a TL-S would do against a 350z =P
luckywales 08-24-2007, 09:28 PM Good kill. I tried a TL-S before I bought my 335i because it looked so incredible, it was loaded, and the interior was beautiful.
Unfortunately, it handled like arse. The saleswoman was trying to tell me how awesome the new LSD was after I voiced concern about 300hp going through the front wheels...then I floored it while joining a freeway. Whereas cars that have the correct wheels driven, this FWD was like all the others with too much power...shockingly bad...
Vortex335 08-24-2007, 09:33 PM Man, this is retarded. I can't post pics, link or anything but text until i have 100 posts? Is this a marketing strategy or what? Because it actually turns me off, rather than motivating me to post more.

I know that pain all too well. :mad
The TL-S is a GREAT looking car though! I've seen a handful of them here and there. Never driven by anybody that would even BEGIN to care about how quick it could be... Now that I think about it, I've never had a 'run in' with an Acura TL of any sort..

rarely is it over 100mph. Theres also about a 30whp difference (even more so with TQ) on the dyno, but about a 14bhp difference on SAE sheets. Nice kill, its one of the few FWD cars I'd drive.

Nice Kill. I love my 335i coupe:buttrock.
Dayum, those things are slow. My 540 could beat one in the 1/4 mile... and would just pull even harder after that.
0-60 I think it'd be a driver's race.
McoupeBobby 08-24-2007, 11:10 PM Nice. I love the new TL-S!
+1 its a prety nice looking car.
benz2bimmer 08-25-2007, 12:32 AM where in brooklyn

you pretty much nailed the reason I refuse to street race (for the most part). I have absolutely no idea what the driver next to me is going to attempt. if only unpredictability held the same thrill it used to for me. I just don't trust that both parties will adhere by the above.
