I went out and bought a laptop which I would only use for this sort of diagnostic, play around with Gt1 and such. The problem is that I have a proper EDIABAS cable and it works with my other laptop flawlessly. The thing is now whenever I try to hook it up to a car, I get "interuption with interface" I think I have to intilize the interface with something in C:\ediabas\bin but not sure what.. The cable is not a USB one, it connects directly to the Serial port.

the proper interface is the original USB one.

Heh, Such a Simple Issue. :D BTW, the Proper Interface is via Serial, the new D_CAN is USB.

select OBD as the interface when installing ediabas, then run obdsetup in c:/ediabas/hardware. if that isn't working, check the .ini files and make sure obd is set as interface.

Pretty much what Nightkrawler is true, and what I did. Also, make sure your Enviorment Varaibles reflect where EDIABAS is installed, etc. As for the D_Can cable, all I know is that it's USB. And BMW is holding tight onto it. I don't even have a part number for it yet. :( So there's no way I can even try to find a comparable replacement if I don't have something to go on....

Here's one that works perfectly with INPA and the STD:OBD protocol:

http://www.one-stop-factory.com/products.jsp?categorylist=11&subcategorylist=731&catname=Car+Diagnostic&subcatname=BMW+Ediabas+%2F+INPA

For 50 bucks, you really can't complain. ;)

yeah , thats much better then the 240 for the cable from the dealer
and it comes with the 20-pin adapter, something the factory cable doesnt include
