Approx 2,800 lbs with 240HP

I think an E46M3 weighs about 3,400 lbs with 333HP + 1 passenger = at least 3,550 lbs, oh camera is another 2 lbs:)

So a 93HP +for the E46M3 is not playing a factor because of the weight difference.

Reminds me of a Lotus Elise, not high in HP but so light and it outruns many sportscars.

The e30 318 is lighter than the 325 e30's I believe. I know the 91 318 is one of te lightest e30s made. Not sure what year that car was and if he had anything besides the s50 swap done to it. He probably had a full custom exhaust because thats what most people do with the s50 e30's.

A e30 with this swap is about 600lbs lighter then a e46. That 90 bhp isn't going to help the e46 much.

True, my 91 318is weighed less than my friend's mini. Listed in the manual as 2560.

gotta remember that the s50 weighs a bit more than the 1.8 liter that was originally in the car.

this is all so hilarious because my m3 has a modded s52 in a car that weighs 2880lbs (scale verified) and with much better gearing, yet anytime i say i've beat e46 M3s it's passed off as complete BS...whatever. can't wait for some of my nay-sayers to come in here.

The owner was claiming 270rwhp too!!!!;)
Weight is always a huge factor. There is a vid of a MKI Rabbit blowing away a high HP Supra. Power to weight ratio FTW!!!!

tell that s50 e30 to go hunting for e39 m5's ... get a video of that. would certainly be interesting!!!

My E30 318is weights have been as follows:

M42 4cylinder, stock trans, A/C, 1/2 tank: 2580
Stroked M50, 6cyl trans, 6cyl diff, no a/c, 7# flywheel, alloy exh. mani's, 1/2 tank: 2620

The M50 makes 235hp to the rear wheels on a Dynojet, and about 215tq to the wheels. I estimate it at 270 crankshaft HP. With mild gearing (Getrag 260, 3.73:1)...I can pull on E46 M3's up until about 130mph--That's in a narrowbody E30 with ~9.7 power/weight

the e30 swap owner was claiming 270rwhp? did he have dyno sheets to back it up? you couldn't be referring to me because i did make that power on that specific dyno as proven by my sheets and many firsthand witnesses.

agreed. yet i still get grief for posting that i beat stock e46 M3s...oh well :rolleyes

no back seat, no spare, no front passenger seat, race seat for the driver, and 1/4 tank of gas. takes me like 15 minutes to swap the seats out so it's really not that hard to do if you wanted to try it.

The E30 only has a chip and hot air intake...and of course exhaust (dynoed 215rwhp)...oh and a 2.93 open diff. in that vid per comments under vid.

His car weighs 2460#'s.

The race was not BS:shifty This guy ran a 13.3ET with a 2.2 60ft. (with a 3.25 LSD)

Some race seats, headers/track pipe, carbon hood/trunk/, ltw battery, exhaust, spare/jack/tool delete, fly wheel, rims, and rotors should get you well under the mark if you have the money. I enjoy my passengers and taking people for rides on the track...so taking my interior out isn't an option
Figure Stock weight 3175...
-30-35lbs for exhauts
-18lbs for flywheel
-36lbs for hood (12lbs MA shaw vs. 48 for stock aluminum)
-30lbs+ with trunk (trunk is Steel, MA Shaw is 5lbs.)
-105lbs from racing seats (given your new ones are 18lbs)
-20-25lbs from Battery
-60lbs with tools/spare/jack/carpet thing.
-6lbs with rotors
-25lbs+ headers/no cats/trackpipe
-20-25lbs of UNSPRUNG weight with K1's or SSR's etc.
= 365lbs seeing you get all the lightest stuff.
That will set you at 2810 curb. Thats light but thats alot of $$$. I knocked off alot of weight fast with seats, flywheel, exhaust,no spare/tools and I'm right above 3000lbs.
