Just before my CPO warranty expired and I hit 100K miles, I did a full Inspection I on the car. Now that it has expired, my SES light is on showing a torque converter problem. After doing much research on this site I found a new torque converter from Levelten and need to get it installed.

Does anyone know a reputable BMW shop in the Greater Orlando Area that will put all nuts, bolts, and underbody panels back after your service? I had a bad experience with a local shop but they are since closed. Go figure.

The dealer wants to take the tranny down and if the torque converter is cracked, then replace the tranny! I haven't had any problems with the tranny slipping so I feel confident that it's just a torque converter problem.

Post UP!

i assume you are talking about bimmer place hahah

anyways you can try and go to fields and see if they will fix whatever it is on goodwill if you aren't too past your 100kwarranty ... they did that with my bf car and he had just passed his 50k factory warranty

otherwise ... im not sure if curtis can help but he use to work at bimmer place and is pretty handy and a reputable guy

if you go onto cfbmw.org, join up and PM m20curtis ...if he can do it, i am sure he won't pass up helping someone out for some $$$

If you're willing to drive to Gainesville, I've heard one of the best BMW techs in the state is there.

Actually I took it to HANS BMW & Mercedes service which is now closed. The guy knew what he was talking about but his attention to detail was not there. I've heard about Ministry of Speed. Anyone been there?

You may have some luck at Fields, but Bennys Euro Auto Tech in Longwood is great, Benny is an older Italian guy that has been working on BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Lamborghini, and Ferrari for about 20 here in the area. The only place I ever took my E30 before I sold it, my father has been going there since Benny opened it.

There is a guy here in Rockledge (which can be about a 45min drive from orl.) but he is very good. Bavarian Auto Center is the name of the shop.

Yes I did take the car to MOS and they did a fantastic job. I am very pleased with their work and knowledge. I'm a DIYer and MOS was the perfect place for me.

Congrats.

I have never used them. What work did you have done? How was their pricing?

My torque converter was slipping causing my SES light to stay on. I took it to Fields and they were going to drop the tranny and see if it is a seal in the torque converter for $2600. I called MOS aka Alex's Auto Shop for an estimate to take out the torque converter so I can ship it out and get it rebuilt. He charged me $500 for the pull/replace and told me exactly what type of AT fluid to buy. I ordered the AT fluild from Pelican Parts while my torque converter was getting serviced in CA. Once I got it back I took it in about 10am and had my baby back by 6pm. No more SES light and my baby runs smooth. He is ASE certified and I was glad to see that he was a BMW owner as well.

His shop is located at
651 N Goldenrod Rd, ste 24
Orlando, FL 32807

Alex's number is 407-738-6082, tell him Keith Jones sent ya

I am a DIYer and would do everything myself if I had the space so Alex was generous enough to let my car sit on the lift for a couple of days since the shop was slow and get my torque converter fixed.

For those of you that have torque converter problems I sent my torque converter to Spec-Rite Torque Converters in Irving, CA. Mike is very knowledgable and helpful. We found out that my particular torque converter cannot be upgraded and can only be ordered new from Germany or Axiom Auto Tech. My torque converter part# ZF519-D . Spec-Rite found a bad seal causing the slippage in my torque converter and replaced it,cleaned it out, and painted it. If you have to replace your torque converter, Axiom Auto Tech's number is 800-633-3340. They have 2 locations in Florida.

Nice story. except for the obvious hassle.

how many hours of labor are involved in pulling / replacing torque conv?

Honestly I don't know but it was WAY less than what the dealer wanted to charge me.
