I stoped at a little car lot last night. they had a 7 series sitting out front for sale that said v12 on the windshield. Unfortunatly no year or mileage. It had the chrome bumpers so I believe that makes it from the 80's to the early 90's (Sorry My knowledge is with the 3 series) I believe it was a 750il. It was spotless inside and out with A new set of bmw chrome rims and they are only asking $5500 dollars. I had no idea they were puting the v12 in the 7 series. Is this a reliable engine? Any particular worries?

Thanks

Here's some info...but it's from a world wide perspective (meaning that the start of production dates are slightly off for the USA market):
E32 7 series (1988-1994 in the USA) - 735i/iL (inline 6); 740i/iL (V8); 750iL (V12): http://www.bmwworld.com/models/e32.htm
E38 7 series (1995-2001 in the USA) - 740i/iL (V8); 750iL (V12): http://www.bmwworld.com/models/e38.htm

The e32 7 series has the M70 V12 engine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M70
The e38 7 series has the M73 V12 engine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M73

The engine is very reliable, but expensive to get worked on by a dealer or shop. It you can do your own work it helps alot. The car has lots of accessories, make sure everything works.

Yep what he said.

The M70 V12 5 liter engine is very reliable because it is based off the M20 Straight 6 2.5 liter engine in the E30 325i's just there are two and they are connected at the bottom. So they share a lot of parts and you can get performance parts for the 325 and fit them on the 750.

Also Q made a typo, the M73 was on the E38 body style 750.
