View Full Version : A Word in Praise of the California Car Duster!
Swordsman 08-21-2007, 02:02 PM If you don't own a California Car Duster, RUN (don't walk) or better yet DRIVE REAL FAST and go get one! This is the best <$20 tool I have ever bought for car care.
Why is it so good? Well, it "stretches" a car wash by brushing the dust off your car before it sticks to it, making it possible for the car to look sharp longer between washes.
I also discovered yesterday that it is an INDISPENSABLE tool when waxing. When you take the dried wax off, it comes off in tiny shreads and going over them again with the pad or buffer just smears them into the paint. Not so with the California Car Duster! I just quickly brushed the was dust away and I was back in business.
Great tool! Available at Wal-Mart and Autozone, plus many others.
No, I'm not from the company and don't own stock in them. However, credit where credit is due, it is a great tool.

I've owned 18 cars in my lifetime and 6 of those cars were black. I've been of fan of the CCD for years. It actually works better after some use.
DeanP 08-21-2007, 02:51 PM I agree with the product endorsement.
Also I noticed the White River Junction, VT location. AJ's steakhouse, best $15 prime rib I have ever had. I need to find a reason to go back.

I have an original CCD, tried it for a while on various cars, and I've never liked the pararfin wax "trail" that it leaves. On another side, I'm also not comfortable using a duster to try to slide dust/.dirt off of a car. I'm worried about introducing small swirl/scratch marks. Just my $.02.
Swordsman 08-21-2007, 03:34 PM Hey DeanP,
I could walk to AJ's from my house. How often do you get up here (from Kansas??!)?
Swordsman 08-21-2007, 03:36 PM I haven't seen any trail from my CCD and have seen no marks from its use. Admitedly, I have noticed that it does work better when the car is waxed than it does when the finish is poor.

From what I remember of WRJ you could walk about anywhere in a few minutes. My wife and I discovered the place the first time on vacation. We were spending the night there and the motel owner recommended the place. A few years later, late 90's, we moved to Connecticut and lived in Windsor. We made several road trips up there for supper. That prime rib was something special. Nobody serves it still on the rib bone like they do. Recently we have been discussing a return vacation to the area and AJ's will be on list of places to stop.

I am also afraid of that, and I have to wash my car once a week anyway because of brake dust so it might not be that useful but I might give it a shot.

+1

I've only had issues when the duster was damp (my fault) but other than that it's never been a problem. The reason I bought one was because of my black Supra. We all know how dusty a freshly washed black vehicle can get (within minutes) so I decided to try this even with the worries of micro-scratches on my car. I detail/wax my cars so often that I guess it never became an issue.
Along with a spray detailer, I use spray wax (every week) in between my normal full waxes (3-4 times a year).
Swordsman 08-21-2007, 05:12 PM Hey DeanP,
Well, if you're coming up let me know (with a little bit of notice if you can). Maybe we can get together for drinks, show off our cars to eachother, and all that.

I'll keep you mind. We will go back northeast within the next couple years. Man, now I have a real desire for a big prime rib!! We'll probably drive the hybrid though, better on gas and rear DVD player for our daughter, but you never know!
