One guy had actually hit 400k. odviously he was the winner. Who is the champ here? Not me. I read about a guy who had a 1996 e38 with over 500,000 not sure if he is a member here tho. Those Japanese cars really go for a while but I've heard that BMW can stay alive too. I've got a 1991 Acura legend with 163,000 on it and it still goes strong, granted I had to replace the head gasket at 154,000 but should go another 150,000 now with no problems. That Acura is not a daily driver for me only drive it mabey once every 2 weeks now, so it will be a LONG time till I hit 300,000. As for my 1998 BMW 740i it just hit 79,000 this morning on the way to work. I hope this big beast of a V8 can go to 300,000. Lyon GrimReefer 08-21-2007, 11:50 AM right now i'm at 163,000. she's still running like a champ with absolutely no problems. well..except for a bad O2 sensor that went this weekend, but that's no biggie. Swordsman 08-21-2007, 12:42 PM Hey Grimmie, where'd you get your clear corners? OhGeez 08-21-2007, 12:51 PM Not me. I've got a '92 Legend Coupe with about 125K miles. Just picked up (last night) and 99' 740iL with 89K miles. :) Hope she treats me as good as my Legend. GrimReefer 08-21-2007, 01:04 PM Hey Grimmie, where'd you get your clear corners? i got them from M62PwrdE38, but i believe he got them from Ebay. i had originally bought them for a car my mom had bought, but that car fell through, so they went on mine :D hypercritic2003 08-21-2007, 01:55 PM My 01 E38 has 134k on the clock now. My old Nissan Maxima (1989) had 288k miles on it when my ex wrecked it. Not bad for 8.5 years with no mechanical breakdowns and just regular maintenance. I hoped to get better on my BMW's but no such luck with repairs.:( E32BlkDemon 08-21-2007, 02:17 PM my 94 E32 has between 160k and 162k, but still running exceptionally well mdw 08-21-2007, 02:30 PM Undoubtedly those Japanese cars can rack up the miles. My '02 Honda Odyssey has about 129,000 miles and still runs like a scalded dog. It's by far the most trouble free vehicle in the fleet except for the '07 ZX14 which is brand new and gets ridden maybe 4-5x per month. The '90 GMC only has 120,000 miles and the '01 e38 brings up the rear with 89,000 paltry miles. I'd love to get 200,000 (or more) out of it, but I don't know if I'll be able to justify the potential cost of upkeep once the miles really start stacking up. I could see myself opting for a newer version with less miles if the 01 starts digging in my pocket too deeply. I hope not though. I still prefer the e38 body. Both are auto trans, and both in good condition. I keep them covered, and don't really drive them much. I also have a black 1987 Lotus Esprit and 2 Corvettes (1966-red & 1980-maroon) Those are also stored most of the time. The 1998 BMW 740i is my daily driver and I really like it a lot so I'm sure the miles will climb very quickly. My hope is to also get this off the road as another weekend driver. I'm looking into leasing this next time around on a 2008 model, maybe a Jeep Unlimited, well see when the time comes, but I sure do need a good winter ride. Lyon 740ILMIKE 08-21-2007, 02:57 PM I got 200k plus out of my Q's. Needed a fuel pump in one and Knock sensors in the other. Under $250 fix for both. Great cars. I have always been a Nissan fan. hypercritic2003 08-21-2007, 03:23 PM I got 200k plus out of my Q's. Needed a fuel pump in one and Knock sensors in the other. Under $250 fix for both. Great cars. I have always been a Nissan fan. +1 I've owned 5 Nissans in the past and still have an 01 Pathfinder. None of them have ever required any repairs while in my ownership but none were as fun to drive as my 2 Bimmers so that is the trade off. I love both brands but for obviously different reasons.:) OhGeez 08-21-2007, 04:48 PM Your gonna love the legend! I have two, a 1995 red/gold trim coupe, and a 1991 white sedan. Alan ecangian 08-21-2007, 08:03 PM 190K on my E-32, only suffered an oxygen sensor, seat twist and water pump. I sold it for $800 when the AC died and the headliner fell out. Still ran fine. I've only got a measly 112K on my 750iL but I'm looking forward to many more miles of joy! I heard those first gen Q45s are very quick cars. Anyone vouch for this? Rockstardj 08-22-2007, 01:13 AM just about to hit 210,000 in my 90 735il , engine is perfect, the only thing that needs help is suspension and steering, but runs awesome 740ILMIKE 08-22-2007, 11:24 AM I heard those first gen Q45s are very quick cars. Anyone vouch for this? Very very quick. My first one (93) had a ton of power. They dropped off after 94 and really dropped in power at 97. the 90-93's have been dynoed stock with 100k on them at 310 HP. They impressed me. ChicagoM3 08-22-2007, 11:43 AM I love my legend! just a water pump and timing belt every 100K and running like a champ. it has 230K on it now, will never sell. looking to get 500K out of her. Its hard now that i have a E38 sport to drive(just got it with 97k all service done) i put 1k on in two weeks., I'm sure BMW will cost more for upkeep but since i save a ton on the legend, let the BmW kill me. JimmyBones 08-22-2007, 11:57 AM 740 had 203K miles on it when I sold it. 750 has 185K miles on it and I has had a recent major tune up type part replace along with mods coming. gspdave45 08-22-2007, 04:15 PM Up to over 180K on my '96 Chevy 454, never had a problem with the engine other than water pump. Thing purrs like a kitten and pulls like a mule. Still no rust, I love that beast. Did a tranny replacement at around 130K and so far so good. Just turned 82K on the 740 so I'm hoping for good things. Drove to Chicago last weekend and did high mph the whole way. Got there ready to party. Last year I drove the sub and I was ready to sleep when I got there, so in terms of distance miles in one drive the BMW reigns! But ya'll already knew that.... straitway7 08-25-2007, 07:05 PM My 1990 525i has 250,000 miles. My 1999 Chevy Silverado has 211,000 I had a 1992 Nissan Maxima that had 275,000 miles on it before I sold it. I would not even think about buying and American car! The Chevy Trucks, you just cannot beat. They are good quality. runTMCfan 08-25-2007, 09:12 PM 34,600 and going strong :buttrock Sorry had to. verygq 08-26-2007, 12:56 AM 237 K on my E32 735. Rebuilt the top end this spring as well as the transmission so I'm pretty set (in theory, as I knock on the trim panels) for the next chunk of mileage. bhamfal 08-26-2007, 01:23 AM +1 on the nissans,...I had a 91 se-r I bought new with 225k on it running strong when a tree fell on it (hurricane Ivan). Still had the origional clutch. Also have a 91 pathfinder 4x4 my wife bought new with 255k on it.....it towed my 750il home when I bought the non running heap. My e32's only got 131k on it. I too read that article from BMW Magazine earlier this year- this guy had over 500K and claimed he never had any major repair. It was a 1995 Oxford Green 740i. I have the magazine still somewhere, but he said his biggest repair was something like my smallest one. Unless he thinks the cooling system isn't maintenance but how could he go 500K and not replace the radiator, expansion tank, etc. Maybe BMW just left that out, I'm not sure. |
