Hello all,

This past birthday of mine I went out and decided to buy myself a present. In respect to the purists, I found myself a rolling chassis at the end of its life with no engine/trans/driveshaft. Cinnabar red 88 m3. I also went out and found an american s52 with zf trans. And for the last week I've been ordering parts like crazy and working on the car. I have all the necessary parts for Obd 1 swap except for a DME. (if anyone has one please let me know!).

I was wondering for those of you who have done the swap or know of it,

What kind of radiator did you use?
How did you deal with the power steering to make it work (which lines to use)?
What driveshaft can be used other than the e30 m3's stock one?
And finally, What trans mount will hold the zf up? (my chassis has sliding trans mount thingmajigs)

Thanks alot!

happy birthday

e36 325/m3 or late e30 325 radiator.....esentially same part. you will need to make a custom bracket to support the radiator or weld on the ears for stock fitment.

ive used the e36 and e30 325 lines with success.

only used the e30m3 driveshaft. some internet "hear-say" suggest 4bolt e36m3 driveshaft....but no first hand experience.

use the e30 325 trans support.

cheers, jason

Thanks alot for the info, I'll let you guys know how it goes. I'll also try and find out if the e36 m3 4 bolt driveline is ok or not.

Use the M-Coupe Radiator. Its the same size as the stock E36 M3 ones, but 3 Row instead of 2 Row.....

I am in the process of the exact same swap and agree with all of the above info to the fullest degree. Lots of good info on this site as will as R3v.

I don't mean to steal the thread but i have purchased the treehouse wiring harness to complete the project. I have all of the correct wiring but am having trouble with the fuel. When the car turns to (ACC) the pump is supposed to prime for two seconds am i wrong. I can't get any fuel....i've been told too switch the lines they may be backwards. Is there anyfurther explanation or any pointers that you gurus can shead some light on for me....I beg of you. PLEASE!

Didnt mean to steal but i figured that it might be better to post here rather than starting ANOTHER e30-S5* thread!

Our cars will be beast my friend no doubt. Good luck on your first start up as i hopefully will get mine running by Thursday.

Don't worry about taking up my thread we are in the same boat! It's better that you bring up these problems so I can know what to expect, I'll get in contact with a tech friend of mine and let you know if he can help with your situation.

As for the fuel lines, maybe your fuel pump, fuel pump relay is dead? Noob question but, would it matter which direction the fuel ran through the s50 fuel rail?

need more info than that. how do you know your having trouble with fuel? does the f.p. relay (green/violet wire) give 12v when cranking? if so, pull the fuel lines and see if they are pressurized....if not, flip em. jason

Hey since I'm bored and waiting for an oil pan, I was wondering for those of you who know.....What is an approximate 0-60 time for the s52 (obd1) converted car? (3.5 hfm and injectors included if possible)

And how much heavier is the s52 than the s14?

thanks..

62 lbs. heavier on the s52 according to my scale both motors weighted without headers.

Thanks for the info on the motor weights.

I got a question though, I'm having a bit of trouble finding a e30 325 trans crossmember, but i did find one from an automatic, will that work???

i believe it a part specific only to chassis and not to trans.
I needed one and went to the dealer and stated: 1) e30 325 trans cross

You can also use the drive shaft out of a e46 328Ci. Thats what im using, with the stock e30 CSB backwards it works like a charm.

HOw much would it cost to do this? How much does an e30 m3 rolling shell go for?
I wanted to do this but i was unable to find a roller for a fair price that was in good body shape.

A chassis that has ONLY the S14 pulled, with full interior and rolling gear go for around $4000 - 6000 depending on condition.

The problem is finding the chassis. I've begun to notice how unfathomable my luck is.

Yeah trying to find a good rolling chasis is hard, I have kinda been looking for a while and not found what I want. Then I will find a good whole car but then I think stay S14 and keep it pure. Good luck with the job man I will be watching!

Howdy fellahs.... Just an update here and request for a bit of help.

So far I've been movin pretty slow because of part delivery delay and being away at college. But in any case I just managed to get the motor in yesterday. I'll see if i can get some pics this coming weekend!

As for the help i need....
I have a 413 red label en route to the shop, but I was really confused as to what chip i need to get from turner. There is the one that is a ews delete for silver label which i think is it, but am not sure so im not gonna just do trial and error. In the sense of upgrades, i have 3.5 hfm, 24lbs injectors. So if someone could point me to a link that would be much appreciated!

Thanks guys

You can use either a silver labeled 413 chip for your mods with an EWS delete burnt into it or simply a standard 413 chip for the mods as well. If you are going new, I would probably have them delete it in the event that you goto sell the chip it would probably have more value since they are harder to come by second hand without the EWS.

I have an oil pan for sale if you are interested. E34 M50.

Just an update on <my> swap......

Shabba! It started right up yesterday...guess what was wrong, THE RELAYS were reversed. The three relays on the drivers side, two of them were switched. Overall the motor sounds healthy I must say. Ill put up some pictures although I can't wipe the smirk of my face:D

Ohh yeah and +1 for the GIAC chip I found in my ecu (506).
