Don't know if this ever has been attempted here before, but as September is right around the corner I thought a dedicated SOX thread would be in order (can we perhaps get a sticky?)...

First thing I'm going to throw out there is:

Top of the ninth with a lead = blown save

Top of the ninth down two = strikeout the side (after allowing two on)

Yeah, that's right, Gagne... WTF? Yeah the guy is awesome, and his career numbers are staggering, but seriously... :shifty

They dissapoint me every year. They shoulda never gotten rid of Thorton. That said, I think they'll do better this year. I predict a big year for Kessel. This thread should be renamed to "Boston Sports".

Umm... As this is a forum is there anyway that perhaps those that want to talk pats make a thread, those that want to talk bruins make a thread, those that want to talk sox talk here??? Is that too much??? Should I simplify this and make a single "Boston Sports" thread?

I say nay. Leave this a sox thread. They are the most crucial ones to watch right now. Once football season gets going, then maybe a pats thread, but for now Go Sox!

Yes, professional athletes are paid tons of money, but you know what that's why they are called "professional" athletes, that is their profession and it just happens to pay very well... No different than the best lawyers and CEO's etc etc that make even more money and cry about high taxes all the time...

These people are gifted and hitting and throwing a 9oz. ball, some people are gifted at running companies, some people are gifted at fixing cars, some people just don't like to work... That is why people like that little thing called capitalism, whether you are gifted or you just work at something incredibly hard you can succeed and be happy...

Anyways, back to the Sox... Lester tonight... Hopefully the kid has another quality start like last week's in Fenway... Two in a row would be nice...

As a sox fan we need to ask ourselves...

Would we rather have Barry "Roids" Bonds with the HR record, or Alex "I'm a prick" Rodriguez with it...

Don't get me wrong, both are amazing players, but IMO Bonds is just an A$$ and A-Rod is an A$$ Hole.

The worst part about Bonds is he was/is a Hall of Fame player WITHOUT roids... The man was a sick, sick hitter when he was stick thin... It's sad that he had to do what he did... Would he have gotten the record without... Who knows? There is no way of knowing. Even with 'roids' there are still skills and talents required to hit that muscle doesn't help with...

I know I posted the picture in good fun earlier, but I do have to say something. To me, Boston fans (not necessarily everyone or any of you guys) can be very un-sportsman like and crass. Here are my reasons from personal experiences: I went to a Fenway game a few years ago against the Orioles. What are fans cheering? Answer: Yankees suck. I was like wtf? You are not even playing that team. It seems that Boston rather cheer against another team then root for their own. I also see people wearing Yankees suck shirts, jeter blows, etc and vendors selling them outside Fenway. I don't see that outside Yankee Stadium. Don't get me wrong, it is good to have rivals and fun to heckle one another, but Boston seems to take it a step further. Anyway that's my rant. Next weeks series should be a good one (although I will only get to see one game on TV here in Indy). I am from NY and have been a Yanks fan all my life! :redspot

WOW! I just got back from Fenway, as a first timer, and you guys truly have a special ballpark and fans up here. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but between the park, the history, and the fans, it's truly a phenomenal baseball experience. Everything - between taking the T into and out of the stadium, with all raving fans, and walking the streets of Boston before and after the game. It really brought back my lost love for the game (I guess that's also accredited to being a Philadelphia heartbreaker fan).

I'll be trying to get back before I leave in October.

Not that i need to defend myself but... Pair of tix. Thought it was next to my buddy. Turned out it was two extra seats a row away. Couldn't get anyone I knew to go (not even GF). Didn't want to A. Sit alone and B. Sit with a friend of a friend as I didn't want to have to pretend to like the person I went with. Just wanted to watch the game as we have recently filed chapter 11 bankruptcy with one of our projects at work... Right now I kinda just stare at things... So instead of freezing my overworked ass off at the game I watched each and every play from the comfort of a couch. So don't :nono me. :D
