As anyone else in the Buckhead/Brookhaven area seen the new X6 in camouflage driving around on Peachtree Rd? I spotted one this morning at around 9:45 head towards Phipps/Lenox right before Oglethorpe University. It had the front, sides, and back taped down with camo, but as it passed by I could see the fastback roof line. Would have tried to take some pictures but had to get back to my apt to handle a family emergency.

I thought they only tested the new BMW in German and California, but anyone in the Buckhead/Brookhaven area keep an eye out.

Exactly. Except the angel eyes where on and it sounded like some of the tape was coming off as I passed it by. The rear end is not so aesthetically pleasing

Well just know that its not exactly how it will look. I spoke to a member here that works at BMW and said that they will purposefully tack on strange body panels just to detract from the cars true form...

I was just shocked to see a test vehicle in Atlanta. Usually all the stories of spotting test mules are on the west coast.

The degin, from what I saw, is definitely Bangle inspired. I just don't like the crossover suv or sports activity vehicle design. But to each his own.

i think it looks pretty spiffy. Id still take it over a Hyundai :D

BMW will never discontinue the X5, the X6 is a crossover vehicle built on a car frame for better ride quality, along with the storage capacity of an SUV.

I thought the same thing, but I saw a number of new X5's pre-release, in various levels of disguise. I also saw one Z4 M a few months before they were released. All of them had SC plates, and no roundel or model badging at all.

Aside from the lack of badging the Z4 looked ready for delivery, though.

Why is there a 1 series? :) If there is demand to build, they will build it. It's Benz competition here for that GL thing that they have. Supposely the X6 has a lot more room to offer than the current X5. Who knows until BMW officially releases a press conference discussing the motive, etc.

I actually passed one of those on I-16 near Savannah last week. I wondered what model it was going to be. Noticed it to be X5 size, just sleeker. Never heard of the X6 until now. :cool

None of BMW's SUVs are built on "truck frames". They're all unibody construction, just like all of the cars. I believe the point of the X6 is to offer something more exclusive and sporty looking than the X5, for people who don't need the new X5's third row seat. In other words, for all those Buckhead and Dunwoody moms, it will be the Ultimate Shopping Machine.......;)

I saw one last Saturday on Peachtee Road. It was red with no camouflage. No pics, but looked exactly like this:

Yep, Bruce is right. I was sitting in one about 2 weeks ago in Greenville. A white one that still had the black disguise striping on it and no Roundels. It had the 4.8 motor in it. It was fairly nice looking but definitely seems to be very beefy and heavy. The other negative is the view out of the back windshield is almost non-existent. It is about the same space inside as the X5 but maybe a little less. This one already had 3200 miles on it.
