edit, new pics listed in link in newer post.

for sale in Orange county. new price $3450!! all DMV fees paid and up to date, needs cat and smog to be registered.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a203/cwann/190e%2016v/ebaystuff013.jpg

for those that are unfamiliar with the 190e 2.3-16, it was a co engineered effort between cosworth and MB to produce a production car to meet homologation specs for DTM racing... prett badass lil motor, better built than the e30 m3, but hindered by a lackluster hybrid mechanic/electrical fuel management system and a single throttle body fv ITBs... had MB done it right and but ITB's and a real efi along with badging it an AMG or cosworth car, these cars would be just as popular/rare/expensive/fun/attractive as the e30 m3's.... basically you will get 80% the car for 40% the price, i nicer interior with cooler seats but a less visceral driving experience, semi numb steering, and slightly less aggressive looks.. and believe me, i am a hardcore BMW and M car fan, i am not MB biased.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a203/cwann/190e%2016v/ebaystuff014.jpg

this is a cut and paste from benzworld, so the wording and description may be geared towards MB knowledge and assumption...

Smoke silver, paint is in excellent shape for its age
original socal car purchased from Fletcher Jones MB(or what was previously fletcher jones) than purchased by the 2nd owner as a MB certified car, i aquired the car after the second owner passed awa while it was being serviced.... so the car has been adult owned all of its life...until it met me
automatic transmission
128k miles, car looks like a 100k mile MB, very well preserved
16" chrome evo I wheels(R129 SL) - brand new condition
new 225/45/16 summer tires
new s600 grille
new euro headlights and ecode corners
new alpine head unit with built in ipod controls
nice paint with only minor blemishes
super nice body for the exception of the rear driver quarter panel which needs a couple small dents removed(paintless)
nice leather - needs two rear seems resown, otherswise is in great condition
good life on brakes
100% factory suspension, hydraulic SLS in perfect working order, no leaks, i suspect they have been replaced in the last 50k miles or less
does not overheat
all valves have been checked for clearances - perfect, noticiably quieter than most 2.3-16's
new oe plugs and wires

the bad:

lap timer does not work, common.
needs 2 or 3 new door check straps, simple DIY
as mentioned, the rear quarter nees a couple small dents pulled
no ac, common, cant say i ever needed to use it living on the coast

and the more specific "bad"
will need a new catalytic converter, i have a spare used one, but decided it is better to buy a new cat complete with precats - can purchase nice aftermartket ones for $250.
has not been registered(approx $400 in registration fees due along with a CA smog to be "CA legal") due to needing a cat, however it drives perfect for running in "closed loop" due to the cat being partially fried...it has driven in different states of tune as a result of the deteriating cat.... not too recently while the cat was falling apart, the car would scream, now its running a little to rich and the CIS fuel managemtn does not like the o2 readings so it is running closed loop.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a203/cwann/190e%2016v/CaliA4OGMercPics012.jpg

the above interior pics are from my last 16v(sorry, no OG zach morris car phone :( ), pretty much identical condition, i havent taken any pics of the new cars interior yet

other than that, the car is pretty solid, doesnt overheat, has good oil pressure, paint is nice and shiny, the chome evo I wheels are like brand new. the car is a very good looking car for its age, inafct its in better shape than most cas half its age.

car is located in Newport Beach, orange county CA

best way to contact me is via email at christianwann@gmail.com thanks!

another smoke silver 16v(NOT MINE). i actually bought my car from the guy that owns the one below.. the car was recently stolen and involved in a high speed police chase that ended with the thief crashing and totaling the car.. sad story; pretty picture.

if only i new something about them. These cars are awesome

pretty simple cars, just a standard entry level MB which is of equal or better build quality as an e30 bmw. the car was co-engineered with Cosworth to build a twin cam car for competition use. the motors are extremely well put together and the head is way ahead of its time - capable of flowing 500hp plus in stock form(with EFI).. cosworth built it to 320 or 350 hp for racing and MB detuned it 185 hp(167 for NAm with cat) factory headers, Recaro interior, additional gauges, full ground effect kit, SLS or self leveling hydraulic rear suspension(like the e28 and e34 M5's), larger brakes from the 300E, larger sway bars, ect, ect.

the cars do require more maintance than the standard 190E, just like a e30 M3 does.. and (i have listed the items needing atention), but luckily my car has a lot of things going for it and it is above average condition and priced accordingly.

Thanks, Steve

it can be driven anywhere i assume.. it has no problems driving at any speeds - i usually get it up to 70 or so on the way to work. the clogged cat and burnt out 02 sensor do cause a lack of power uptop, but normal driving/cruising it drives fine.

something i forgot to add in the description:

AC is innop- will prob need a compressor which arent too pricey.

driver side window needs a new motor

yeah, you'll find that with these cars, so many have been neglected and in need of thousands in refitments and repair.. my car was partially neglected, not by choice, the previous owner passed away while it was being serviced and the car sat for a little bit.. ive spent around $2500 in maintance, but most was spent on aesthical upgrades and a new alpine deck.

my car is what it is, a $4500 190E 2.3-16. If you want a cherry one; one that is mechanically solid and cosmetically clean, you will have to pay $7500 to 10k, if not a little more.. there is a real nice all original one here in OC CA, he actually has two for sale... he is aking ~$14 and $15k for them, and he is only selling one of them... carkennel.com is his website? one is pearl black, the other is smoke silver, both are getrag's. i saw them on ebay, may be you can pick one up for less than 10k? there not worth anything more that that unless they have mileage in the 50's 60's, ect.

if you want a getrag, just hold off for one, i bought my car because it was a good buy and was fairly clean, and i needed a driver, had there been a getrag available for similiar price i obviously would have jumped on it.

back for sale, this time i'd like to get it sold in the next week or two..

i placed an ad on craigslist for $3950 which also entailed me paying all DMV fees of approximatedly $460.

My final price for sale here to members is $3450, or you can purchase the car for $3000, but owe the DMV $460 to register the car.

Ackkk.... Don't sell it :( Then again, its an auto :D

Nice ride, happen to have an 86 as well as an 85 Euro myself. Not quite E36 M3 power, but a blast to drive! Had a great time restoring mine, and now my mechanic I sure has a new house all paid for :confused

Just sourced a fresh head for mine:

^thanks, they are cool cars, i hated to sell my euro awhile back, but i didnt want to drive it from DC to cali when i moved. your car looks good, i believe i heard a faint whisper that is was asking for some new shoes....perhaps some monoblocks or some evo II 17's.... :)

the car has so much potential and is "all there" minus a few cosmetics and a new cat and fresh servicing.

BTW, to those interested, the auto to manual swap is a cinch, as is most swaps. parts are around $1k used, and pop up as "already sourced, but abondonded project kits" every now and then. about 8 to 12 hours labor from what i have gathered.... i contemplated myself as i felt the car was in decent shape per what i have invested in it, to warrant the cost of a swap...

She's running on real MB EVO II's now (17 x 8.5). Sourced them brand new in box from a guy for $900 shipped! Mine's staying put in my hangar when I move to Cali next month. I'm bringing the M3 with me though.

Yeah, for all those interested in his car, lot's of parts available for the manual swap. Check the for sale thread at 190revolution.net

sweet.. you got genuine evo II 17x8.25's? i've seen a few around, mostly R129 SL dealer installed take-offs or E500 special edition wheels, but i thought they may have been 17x8.5's.. i bought 17x7.5's evo's for my euro that were slk take offs for $700 refurbished and i thought that was a steal.. good deal. let me knwo when you make it to seal beach, i just moved to huntington harbour last month(time to change my profile), about a mile or so from seal beach.

what are you refering to as a "fresh service".

car needs to be gone through service wise, like basic routine maintanance. more specifically i would recommend all fluids to be flushed, coolant, trans, brake, steering, sls hydrolic fluid.. i already purchased sls fluid and brake fluid, but have been to lazy to take on the job, plus i am a little leary of the steps required to properly flush and prime the sls fluid.

so replace the cat ($250 plus shipping from a ebay seller/manufacturer that has 50 instock) and o2 sensor, flush all fluids, and then go through the misc wear and tear parts later. if i had the money, i would do the above mentioned fluid flushes and then start sourcing the misc rubber mounts and bushings and replace it all in one service, ca bushings and sway bush's, motor/tranny mounts, etc.

after that, i'd pay a visit to the local junkyard to pick up t misc interior odds and ends: sun visor clip, dash vent, seat recline buttom; things of this nature. lastly id take the the rear seat back rest to an upolstry shop to sow up the two undone seems, and then take a trip to a body shop to pull out the shallow dents in the quarter panel and maybe respray one panel(driver door has key scratch) and do the front bumper and maybe a couple trim pieces.

then, after all this is done - id go drive the dog shit out of it and get my full monies worth.. the car is all there, it just needs a bit of finsihing and you have a nice clean good running piece of german sports sedan history.

just to help out the OP a bit here.

Service parts, wear and tear and Dealer parts are cheap through fastlane (mercedesshop.com). Plenty of interior and other parts available cheap from guys parting at 190rev.

I have 2 of these and they're not hard to maintain. Fun as hell in the twisties. Great Getrag Dogleg 5 speed. Power band is above 4K and they love to be wrung out. SLS makes them stick like glue.

Biggest thing maintenance-wise is valve adjustment. They aren't hydraulic and should be maintained.

If you haven't had a chance to drive one yet, you really should. So few were imported, really
