Finally got my Abs module back from Module Masters and everything is 100%. I love knowing how fast I am going, I recomend them highly for your rebuilds, very professional.

Well while on the subject I have the famous BRAKE ABS DSC lights on my dash on my 540. At first they only came on after warm up and were of again the next morning but now they are on at start up.

I tested the wheel speed sensors with a ohm meter and three of them were in perfect spec. I didn't test the rear drivers side because I heard it controls the speedo so I assumed It must be good since my speedo still works.

Should I take my car into BMW or just figure out how to get the ABS harness of the module and drop the 300.00 for a rebuild from module master?

Thanks

go module masters worst case they dont fix it and refund your cash and your out shipping BMW wanted 1000 plus time for coding.

You should confirm it's the module first. Two ways to do this: wait until your gauges go out (if it's truly the module, speedo, odo and MPG gauge will go out), or try the "cold" test: get a can of refrigerant (or compressed air, ala computer duster, and hold it upside down) and spray it for +1 minute directly on the module (you can also wrap it in ice). If the lights on your dash go out after you do this, and then come back on some time later when the module has warmed back up, it's the module.

I'll take this opportunity to put in a plug for BBA Reman, who did mine. I chose them primarily because they are right down the road, but they did a great job, were FAST, and very easy to work with. They rebuild and reman of a SLEW of electrical components for a wide variety of cars.

Well I bought a can of the spray air stuff and It was a small can and it ran out before 25 sec. and to my surprize the air spray said on the can it has a BITTERING agent that made me sick and it was nasty. (I could taste it because I ate fast food after I sprayed the module) It was supposed to deter people from inhaling the stuff!!!

So needless to say I am hesitant to try that again because with 25 sec of spray the module warning lights didn't go off.

So what your saying is I should just wait for the module to get screwy enough to make my speedo quit and then test the sensor and if its good then rebuild the module ?

my logic is if the lights are on soon as your turn the key than its prob a sensor, if they go on after the car warms up its the module, my logic turned out correct in my case.

I just shipped mine based a lead for a $189 ebay buy it now. They were very knowledgeable & faxed a free UPS 2nd day air label. They'll rebuild it in 1-2 business days & call me for payment for rebuild & return shipping of my choice. Wish me luck!

Well, it's problematic at best to diagnose this, because the module failure can sometimes cause a fault of the CAN bus, which will cause the lights to come on as though there are issues with the sensors themselves. In reality it's the issues downstream related to the module/DSC controller failure that make it look like a sensor failure. That's how I ended up spending $190 on new sensors I didn't need. Do you have a Peake tool, OP?

No I don't have a Peak tool if you ment me the hijacker...

Well this morning when I drove the 540 the lights only turned on after she warmed up to operating temp.

So I think it is the module does modulemasters rebuild the ABS module for 200.00 or 300.00?

Thanks

Yep, I meant you... :-) I was going to say that if you had a Peake tool you'd be able to pull the code that could potentially tell you whether it was the module.

BBA Reman does it for $300, and so does ModuleMasters. BBA Reman has a warranty; not sure about Module Masters.

Good luck with it.
