So my buddy and i are cursing back from the Edgewater meet in NJ last night. Its almost midnight and were a few miles away from getting off the main road. We roll up to a light (3 lanes wide). Im on the far left, some innocent car in the middle and my buddy in his e46 on the right. I give him the look an he nods. The light turns green and hit it. I get a great launch and pull about half a length on him. We wind out 1st and hit 2nd hard. Oh i love the feeling of the car squatting on a nice 1-2. I look over and see that im like 3 lengths on him and he is just cruising now. :alright

I slow down and roll the window down next to him. He is holding his shift knob in his hand, he said he almost hit himself in the face with it after gearing to 2nd. We both laughed and cruised home. Needless to say if the shift knob didn't come off i would of gotten a spanking!

lol, the shift nob is about 80 hp!!

I did that when I was test-driving an 01 330 ... I just looked at it and laughed!

HAHA!! That is more funny for me because I had a friend check out a white E36 M3 in Texas a few months ago and he was shifting that car and the knob came off in his hand. LOL!! :lol :D

were these shiftknobs aftermarket? i cant see my stock one ever popping out

and this is a kill story how? hehehe j/k....My friend did the same thing when he first bought his 330i racing an e36 m3...

haha yeah i had the same thing happen to me just after i bought my M i went to race my friend who drove me to get my M in his Saab Viggen . . and i went to shift hard into 2nd and did the same thing . . . . must be a thing that happens often

yea... damn these non screw on shift knobs... once you take it out once... its never the same...

Happend to me in a E36 M3 also.

Except it flew out of my hand and landed in the rear seat.

Guess you guys need to stay away from those cheap ol 3-series

He must have had an after market shift knob, cause the e46 M3 comes with a one piece knob/boot.

hehe same here. the worst part i had to make a shift since i was merging on highway. lets just say it is not fun shifting with a sharp piece of metal :)

and I thought I was the only one that had the shift knob come off while driveing

my friends 540 shift knob would come off almost every single shift, eventually it made its way out the window
