View Full Version : Pull-A-Part SOUTH: How do the cars look?

Mostly the e30s? Are they all beat? There's alot more than there is in ATL NORTH apparantly. What are my odds finding a windshield?

Also, how are the ford rangers?

Is there alot more people that strip the hell out of the SOUTH ones than the NORTH ones?

Thanks
Tom

Your odds of finding a windshield are high -- however, finding one that you'd want to put in the car is another matter. I find most have been damaged by yard apes.

I'd say the proportion of stripping is a bit less in the Conley yard.

Any convertable e30s?

Glad to hear it's better than North.

Has anyone been there recently that can tell me about the e30s, or rangers... maybe even mazda pickups?

I have a good front windshield if you want it. $50 and you can come pick it up. Anyways, pull-a-part is a luck of the draw type thing, you can look at their website to see exactly what cars they have...

I definately like the selection at the South yard better. Plenty of decent parts. The North yard was rather...uhhh...limited.

I'll be in Atlanta tomorrow to drop off a wheel and pick up some foglights.

I can install your used glass and attach your mirror bracket while I'm there. I can also bring a new windshield if you want one. $145 installed for the new one, $35 labor to install your glass. I'll need to know before 5 pm Eastern today if you want a new windshield. The warehouse will be closed when I leave tomorrow.

I should be able to install it myself. Was easy enough to remove. I've got a really nice Merc. rear view mirror I'm going to put up there. Shows direction and temp, and looks real nice w/ built in lights.

Sure, but you'll have to wait until I make a trip over or meet me here. I can get as many as you want, whenever you want.

This is a Pilkington (LOF) glass also. No junk.

(FYI, I've been in the windshield business for 25 years. I've been a territory manager, a GM, a sales rep, a business owner, and an installer. I still have all my tools and supply connections.)

I was in the Conley yard last week. I thought the E30s have been pretty well picked thru/damaged. They do have a recent addition, a '91 318is in white.
The windshield is gone as is the front and rear shadowline:shifty Most of the body looked OK, rear spoiler is long gone, didn't notice the front. I pretty much had tunnel vision for what I wanted.
Engine and tranny are gone, interior is gutted and rain soaked. There is a pretty aggressive flock of mosquitoes in it too. IIRC the dif is gone but it does have both rear brakes, hmmm, I didn't think about that when I was there.:mad

I did see one good e30 windshield.

I see that the northside yard got 2 e30s this week. You guys keeping that on the lowdown?:shifty

I know a great glass company. I am very good friends with the owner. PM me if you are interested in getting an inexpensive new one.

Why do you say that?

For anyone in the future wondering about the South Pull-a-part..... it's like heaven. I found 4 windshields that were minty, but broke 2 trying to get em out (only 20 mins before close... DAMN ATL TRAFFIC).

All in all, got a windshield and will be back next week for more. :D

That's cool. Usually you can find what you are looking for in relatively good condition. When I went there for my E30 they had quite a few to choose from.

Glen, don't waste your time. Well, I shouldn't say that. There is one left, but it's got a tiny nic in it (forgot about that when I said 2 were minty)

Unfortunatly, I was EXTREMELY rushed for time. I had about 20 mins to try to figure out how to pull a windshield, something I've never done before. I would have brought some sizzors, soapy water and good screw driver, if I were to do it again. All I had was my SHITTY SMALL screw driver.

On that note, want to trade? Windshield + $40 bucks for your door? ... I'm kidding, unless you want to. If not, I'll come pick up the door in 2 weeks for the asking price (if that's cool with you).

Well, did you figure out the right way? Unless the windshield has been bonded to the gasket, all you need is something to get the lockstrip out at one location and the rest you can do by hand. Sorry, but busting two windshields trying to figure out how to remove 'em is pretty ham-fisted. There are way too many good parts damaged by folks who don't know what they're doing.

Anytime you're not sure how to remove a part, you try your hands on the WORST sample in the lot, not the best examples :mad

I can't tell you how many times I have seen people butcher clusters and consoles along with other parts due to the fact they didn't take their time, didn't know how to remove the piece or they were ill equipped.

A lot of times - you can ask s.one for a hand if you're not sure. I have given people a few tips at times and helped get out some heavy components.

Oh well.. :shifty
