Either the officers are covering their backs by saying they backed off or he outran them. Either way, it's never a good idea to run from 'em. You wouldn't believe how fast these guys can memorize tag #'s.

Misdemeanor, that's not too bad. Obviously he didn't have any other warrents (otherwise they would have found out when they arrested him) so maybe he was having a really bad day. :dunno :stickoutt

Even a 328xi wagon could own a police cruiser, those things are so slow it's ridiculous, and as for handling the Ford Crown Vic defines the term "land yacht".

I'm actually going to go out on a limb here and say owning a police car in ANY BMW is equivalent to racing a civic dx in an M5, it's not worth the gas.

He did, what he didn't outrun was his address information stored in DMV records and linked to his license plate.

nice..but running is never a good idea. You'll get caught one way or another. The cops actually do their job in this country. Its not like china where u can just give the cop 500 yuan and they'll act like they never saw you. That article kind of reminds me of my friend David. He drives a 06 Lotus exige and decided to run late one night..He managed to lose the crown vic down one of the many windy roads around here. He apparently hid out on someones property for about a half an hour, but when he left to go back home the whole police department was patrolling the town. He got arrested and spent the night in jail, but the lucky bastard didn't get a single charge. Apparently the cops thought the car was really cool, and he wasn't a jackass to them which helped. He said he just admitted to doing wrong, and they were really nice to him. He said the cop who chased him wanted pictures of it to take home to his son as "the only car that ever outran him." I suppose being only 17 years old helped too. However it didnt help in the home department. He got the car taken from him for a few weeks, but the audi he was driving while he was without the lotus was for sale, and it sold! Ever since then he got the Lotus back and is still driving it.

Who said it was a crown vic? Here in Alpharetta, we have cop cars that will make your 540 look like it's in 2 speeds of reverse. Soup'd up impalas, e36's apparantly (see pic below... NOT photoshop), NEW soup'd up impalas, undercover Ford Broncos, and undercover street cars.

if the cops didn't catch him in the driver seat. They can't prove within a shadow of a doubt that he was the one eluding them. If he shuts his mouth and gets a decent lawyer (07 BMW? Better have a decent one) he's off, scott free.

Whatever he had in his car, it was worth running for...as they didn't catch him with it. IE 14 year old girl or a lot of coke, lol.

Out here we have the normal crown vics, supercharged. And now the Chargers, eck. Supercharged hemi :( . The only thing we have on the charger as far as i can see is handling, "hold on let me make a u-turn" the cop said, seconds later he did a burnout in order to make the turn. :-P

Err..... I was visiting my parents house back in alpharetta last weekend and got ticketed by the Alpharetta Police Shelby Gt 500... ya know, the new ones? Its their new "High Speed Pursuit" Vehicle.

Also, I hate how I move away, come back to visit, and the APD is now rollin black cars with charcoal lettering... how gay.

Eh....normal Crown Vics aren't SC'd. When I took a defensive driving class at VIR, we used police interceptor CV's, just gray without a police paint scheme, and man what a slug of a car. It had some power, but the handling was like riding a marshmallow, and there just wasn't enough 'umph' to make up for the rest of the car.

NC did have some LS1 Camaros for the highway patrol, and those worked really effectively, but are being phased out.

So yeah, there's no doubt in my mind that they got away.

Oh and a good Raleigh PD friend of mine said he HATED the new Impala SS's. The car was too small for their equipment, let alone the people they arrest, and the 303 ponies that it could crank out just weren't enough.

08-24-2007, 04:02 AM
yeah, my brother is a deputy and my father purcahsed a used Police Interceptor so I've been "lucky" enough to drive the Crown Vic interceptor on a few diff occassions.

I've never wanted to be back in my E32 so quickly in my life. Sloshy like a frat boy after a case of beer. Def not 'sig' quicker than my 'daily' E32 and def feels like crap at high speed (where as the 7 just, 'sits' at 120).

But yeah, running from the police? Not a good call.

Even a souped up impala isn't much, but that E36 looks scary... how did the cops get that? That can keep up turn for turn where an Impala, a Charger, a Bronco, a Camaro, or a Crown Vic would get spanked.

It's all rumors. The best things the cops have here is some supercharged V6 Dodge Chargers, which are admittedly fast in a straight line (and the police package looks really cool on top of the already mean styling) but they can't turn worth a damn.

The cops are getting sneakier all over. When the "law" starts to hide from citizens, you know somethings up, and it's not good.

The e36 is actually a 318i (or 320i, not sure, websites contradict) that was used for the olympics. And unless they got new RSMs and bushings, it rides like crap.

Would be nice if this was a GT

It was an easy job outrunning the cops, but once they get your plate.....

On the other hand, there is a real good chance that if they can't identify him and his passengers don't give him up, they won't make anything stick.

He needed the James Bond rotating license plates!

they definitely do not have 500 HP. SOME police departments have the new charger hemi, which even then is still only 0-60 in 6.2. And that's not even in california.
I've lived here all my life and its nothing but crown vics.
also, dont forget... it's all about money. i've seen those police Crown vics at auctions with 300,000 miles on them (original engines/trannys).. they last forever, that explains the slowness. a high performance SRT8 or LS1 camero is going to start having issues around 100,000. there's no way the gov't is going to phase those in accept for limited numbers on the highway.

And as far as that E36 po-po mobile.. that is a shame :[[[[ defacing such a lovely car

bmwlover0725
08-26-2007, 01:38 AM
500hp in California wont do shit anyway for some of the cars there. NY driving laws suck. I almost got a misdemeanor for excessive speeding... but I didn't. It shames me to even see an E36 or any BMW for that matter, get ruined with Police paraphernalia. The cars here suck so bad, that a kid in my school driving a 93hp accord (1989) escaped a cop. I was dumb enough to stop for him.

Closed.
