I am in the process of putting my car back to stock. I have the same DME from another car and would like to put it in my car. I went to Tischer BMW and asked if they can do it. They said I will not be able to use a used DME because it is coded to another VIN number. They tried to sell me a new DME which costs more then 1000$. I have heard many people getting a new DME aligned to there car, and I was wondering if anyone has experience with any dealership that would do this.
If anyone can recommend a shop or dealership, that would be great!

bmw dealers should be able to realign your EWS

The new DMEs for your car are generic off the self, and the EWS rolling code is burned into the memory. Once the rolling code is burned, it cannot be changed. So once a DME is programmed to a certain vehicle, it will not work in any other vehicle, you'd need to switch over all of the EWS including the transponers, key, module, etc.
You can have the DME and the EWS module aligned, but it wont change the rolling code. So if you put a used DME in and towed the car to a dealership to have have them aligned it, it won't start.

What would you recommend doing? If I disable EWS on my car, would I be able to use any dme?

So you are saying it's possible to do what he wants? Im not second guessing you, just curious as to how. What i posted was straight out of the bmw technical training manual.
