Alright as for the engine, here's the write-up from Dubwerx in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Description of service: 1987 Jetta GLI was received in very good condition mechanically and body wise, true mileage unknown but in excess of 150,000 miles. No visible rust, no evidence of body damage and car appears to have been maintained very well, making an excellent candidate for a VR6 conversion. The goal was to install a previously tested 300HP VR6 turbo motor into the Jetta while adding appropriate suspension and braking components to match the power of this drivetrain, replace any aging suspension/steering bushings and bearings, and above all to retain factory driveability and reliability.

Install motor and trans. Clearance passenger side frame rail for VR6 crank pulley. Reinforce front subframe. Mount vortec fuel riser, install high-flow fuel pump. Drill hole for VR6 ECU. blah blah blah
Additional items installed: Autotech 228mm L/W flywheel kit and Autotech Front Strut Tower Bar. I also just acquired a power motor from an Audo 4000 for the sunroof. So that will add to the ammenity factor http://www.edition719.com/images/smiles/smile.gif
So there you have it....
If I don't get out of it what I need to recover, then I will ship it to Hawaii and just "suffer" through the heat.
