I just got a 1992 525i 5 speed and was completing general maintenance over the weekend. After I flushed the cooling system I was bleeding it and loosened the screw to much and the pressure blew it off and I lost it. I hopefully will get a new bleed screw tomorrow morning at the dealership, but if I am not able to – does anyone know the size or anything I can use as a quick fix?

Also I did a decent amount of searching on this forum and other places and I really don’t get bleeding the coolant system that much. Does anyone know a link to a good description of how its done. Once I have the reservoir filled to the cold line – Can I just lightly loosen the screw start the engine and wait till its spraying a little steam and then tighten?

I need help badly because Ive already taken tomorrow off work and I currently at my moms house for what was just suppose to be the weekend (100 miles away from work)

Thanks

You don't need to bleed the coolent with the M50 engine. It is self bleeding

Wrong.

Depending on the year, the M50 has a bleeder screw either on the radiator or the fluid tank. Do a search for 'bleeding coolant system' and you'll get tons of hits. Yours is a 92, so I suspect it's on the radiator. As for a fix, I'd be really careful about sticking a bolt in there or something. Screw up the threads and you're done. A nylon bolt though? Perhaps... do it at your own risk.
