View Full Version : Timing is everything!!!
teufel530 08-11-2007, 11:09 PM So check out what good timing has rewarded me with.:redspot I was sitting on the computer this morning surfing around and I decided to check Craigslist for BMW parts. I found an add for these wheels and thought it was too good to be true. Either the wheels were stolen, bent, or the owner really did not know what he was selling; turned out to be none of the above. The guy had a warehouse in Redwood City, CA, full of classic, mint condition BMWs and had wall full of old tires and wheels. I bought these 17 inch 8 and 8.5s replicas today for $400!:buttrock Yes, I took them to American Tire and they verified all four run true.
I think the tire profile is a little too low but that’s ok I'll suck it up until I have to replace them in a year or so. They have plenty of meat still left but the way I drive they won't last long. I want to lower the front a little also but all in good time.
ohnoes 08-11-2007, 11:11 PM Nice, but with those low-pro tires you need to lower your car NOW.
Qsilver7 08-11-2007, 11:21 PM WOW....that was a good find. I haven't seen M-Contour replicas with a lip that wide (like on your rear wheels) in a loooong time! I wanted 8.5" M-Contours...but only the 8"ers were available when I purchased mine. Now, you can't even get them anymore. :(
They also appear to be in great shape, too.

DAMN! Even with my Rondell 58's I've STILL been looking for a staggard set of Contours. Wonderful find! they look great.
Craigslist is great, I found a set of M-Pars for $250, a guy at that uses the same shop I go to got to them before me. One had to be repared ~$65. Good find.
ironie 08-12-2007, 02:13 AM Well done. They look great.
MarkR540 08-12-2007, 02:17 AM nice find man. too bad dunlop FM901s are noisy as shit.

Thats funny you mentioned that, the tires are noisy. I realy dont even like the look of the tire but beggers can't be chosers.
Definitely need to lower the front end at the least but I'll have to wait a few months.
Anyone know how these cars do if I simply cut an inch or two of the OEM springs?
M5mini 08-12-2007, 03:01 AM Nice find, Redwood city? Hell, thats right next door. Do you have any contact info for that guy?
atl530i 08-12-2007, 08:15 AM Very nice find. The car looks great. A drop would really set it off.
BaronOfIpanema 08-12-2007, 10:28 AM Nice wheels, but I'm biased.;)
I put Continental tires on mine and cut my road noise down significantly.

DO NOT CUT THE SPRINGS. You should be able to get a set of lowering springs for around 200 bucks. They're on Ebay constantly.

What size tires do you have on yours??
BaronOfIpanema 08-12-2007, 04:25 PM What size tires do you have on yours??
In the pic in my sig there were PO-installed Sumitomo 245/40's on her. Now I have ContiProContact 235/45's. The grip with the 245's was phenomenal but the ride was just too loud and jarring for my taste. So far I'm really happy with the switch.
Nice wheels, but I'm biased.;)

Im running on High Perf. Yokahama's and have almost no road noise:cool
Theyre super smooth ride and great grip
shelbyz4u2nv 08-12-2007, 05:08 PM damn thats a cool find...what else did this guy have!?

teufel530 08-13-2007, 12:44 AM oh, and thats one helluva farking deal. I'm jealous. did those rims come stock on some M5s?
The more I see them on my car the more I love the look. No sure if they were stock on some M5s.
FLi GLi 08-13-2007, 09:54 AM did those rims come stock on some M5s?
No.
Contours were on E36 M3s. The t-stars, which look quite similar, came stock on E34 M5s.
taseal 08-13-2007, 11:41 AM hmm, which were the T-starrs?

Scroll down about half way, you'll find picks of t-stars. Similar, but different from Contours.
I'm partial to Contours, but then I'm running them on my E36 :)

teufel530 08-18-2007, 12:08 AM Does anyone know what size hubcentric rings I need for these bad boys?

This was answered this morning in a thread not far from this one about "HUB CENTRIC RINGS": http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showpost.php?p=10385271&postcount=9
More than likely...your M Contour replicas have a 74.1mm hub...and you car has a 72.56mm hub. Call and speak to a rep from the TireRack...you will not find them on the website...you have to speak to a customer rep. Same with Tire Discount...your best bet is to call rather than stop in one of the stores.
Good luck...if you can't find any...perhaps you should consider selling those fine cylindrical pieces of rolling beauty to me. :D
Beemer535 08-18-2007, 01:32 PM If your lowering the car at all, 245 in the rear max! I bottom out all the time full of fuel and groceries??
Nice find on your wheels!

Thanks for the input. I pulled a wheel off last night, took of the hub cap and measured with a ruler. My numbers where essentially the same.
