Just picked-up my '95 525i. Great car, drive handles very well, but has some small issues that I'd like to fix on the budget.
First: Whenever I turn/use my turn signals, the hi-beams come on, which is very embarassing to me and annoying to other drivers. whenever the turn signal comes off, so do the hi-beams. It's probably not the control module/computer, because if I wiggle the the turn-signal lever, the hi-beam comes off, so it must be the switch ??? Anybody had that problem?????
The second problem: the gear shift knob spins around freely. It's a nice OEM burlwood knob, I want to keep it, don't want an aluminum or vinyl aftermarket one. How do I secure this one properly?
Third is more of a question: The OEM remote is pretty old-looking square one. Could I programm a newer-looking key/remote to work with my stock system?
The car is really fun though, and drives very well. I've owned an e46 328i/manual, I've driven my buddy's '00 540i/6. The e34 is older and more old-fasioned and less powerfull, but it's GREAT in its own right. I love so far.

Sounds like you need a new Combo switch, and you might be able to glue the insert in the shift knob back in the knob so it won't spin. If that doesn't work which it might not, you'll need to buy a new knob. I couldn't be of much help on the key fob question, but Im pretty sure you can't use any of the newer style fobs because they use a different frequency. Someone else could give a firm answer on that.

Got kind of used to the shifter knob spinning around, but the turn signal thing is extremely annoying... I've learned how to hold the control lever a bit down to make the turn signal work without activating the high beams, but that only works while I'm pushing on the lever. If I flick it all the way on, the High Beams are on, too. How do I go about getting a Combo switch? Where should I look? Are they cheap (hopefully) or is this gonna cost me an arm and a leg? I absolutely HATE driving without using my turn signals, I always use them, (unlike most people on the road:shifty), but I can't really use them now or I'll piss everyone off with my high beams. Thinking about actually removing the bulbs for the time being... All info appreciated.
