The other day my car started making funny clunking noises. I was able to reproduce the noise if I let the car roll back then go forward. There is a loud clunk, the wheels skid a bit then it's fine. I was told its probably the half-shafts as they're old and one of the c.v. boots rotted off.

So I need to know what my options are.
I know I can put a later model 2002s half-shafts in, no mods.
I've heard about early 320 halfshafts, minor drilling.

My other question is would it be worth putting in a 320 diff at the same time. By that token is doing a 5spd conversion also worth it.

I guess I'd just like to know what the approximate cost and time would be.

P.S. The car is a 1968 daily driver with 128,000 miles on 85% original equipment.

Little info I forgot:

The half-shafts have a c.v. on the outside and a uv on the inside.

If you go with the e21 rear diff swap, you'll also need a driveshaft from an '02with the short diff. I'm assuming you have the long neck diff in the '68 since it has the u-joint inner.

In my '75, I used the inner cv from an e21 and the outer from the '02. No spacer necessary and a very straight forward swap.
