I want this car and am now thinking of possible problems that could occur (mechanical or electrical) with the car itself.
Can someone please quickly summarize problems that I might want to perform preventative maintenance? the car has 100k on it.
Thanks alot guys!

Maintenance records.
Cooling system.
Valve cover leaks.
Clutch.
Power steering leaks.
Missing dash pixels.
I'll probably think of more...

Take a look at the "Parked" "check list" threads and the "cooling system" maintanence Parked thread. These will give you an idea of what to expect. Try to get the service history of the car to verify if any of these areas have been taken care of by the previous owner(s). If possible get a BMW dealer to run the VIN to see what has been done to the car at a dealership.
I would also recomend having a good independent shop do a pre-purchase inspection to identify problems -- this can help you with your negotiating the final price.

I not a big fan of ebay cars from "dealerships" while I am sure there are some good deals out there many smaller dealers buy from auctions. So theres no real clue of maintanence ideas, and many times are probleam cars. Theres a Purple 540 on ebay with a 7K buy it now I look at that car everyday and go if it was only not purple.

Thanks guys for the help. I'm going to get myself a 4 year unlimited miles warranty and that should take care of any problems. the warranty is only $2100. which is about $500 a year in maintenance.
Good deal?
btw, i love the color....

MAke sure you read the fine print very carefully about what is covered and what is not. Many warrantys do not cover maintenance items -- something has to break before they fix it and by then a lot of damage may have been done to your engine, etc.
