amancuso 08-09-2007, 09:25 PM FYI These won't work on an e39 unless you get the proper spacers, might want to note that in your auction!

gumbi4u 08-09-2007, 09:29 PM And you can get them new at the buy it now price.
cemimms 08-09-2007, 09:32 PM well i guess i'm screwed...I've seen them on plenty of 5 series pics, do they have to have the sport package?

This is for five wheels though that are basically new....anyway, i see you have these wheels, is the other guy correct about the spacers needed for the five series, i hate not knowing exactly what i'm trying to sell. thanks for any advice!

No, there are versions that are made with the correct offset and hub size for an e39 5 series :)
a13antichrist 08-09-2007, 10:54 PM Did you ever have these on your E36? If the offset is 18 like you say then I'd bet they -are- right for the E39.. the 3s have higher offsets like 35 or 40. From whence did you acquire them?

yes the offset i measured to be 17.46 mm.
I just slapped one on my 318 while i was repairing a leaky tire and they stuck out WAY to far.
I got them from a guy who had them on a 2003 745i.
e39dream 08-09-2007, 11:24 PM the center bore- what's that measure?
cemimms 08-09-2007, 11:37 PM the center bore- what's that measure?
Not 100% sure what center bore is. Would that be the diameter of the surface that mounts to the hub?? If so than it is about 5.875 inches.

e39dream 08-10-2007, 12:07 AM the hole in the middle, measure it in MM please.
cemimms 08-10-2007, 12:18 AM the hole in the middle, measure it in MM please.
The inner diameter of the hole in the middle is ~71.44 mm. The outer ring where it begins sloping inward is ~82.55 mm.
The first # is what I think you are asking about.

e39dream 08-10-2007, 12:26 AM I think, I'm not sure that e39 center bore is 72mm. That leads me to think that these wheels you have are made to fit the 7 series.
a13antichrist 08-10-2007, 12:27 AM That's a 7-series bore - E39ers would need to bore out the hole to 74.1 to run them.
mookish 08-10-2007, 01:04 AM e39 wheels will fit other series with rings. Any other wheel will not fit e39's without being bored out and spacers added (in most cases). There's no such thing as "fit e39 and later 5 series BMWs and e38 and later 7-series BMWs"

Well I Measured the 71.44 or whatever with a ruler and converted to millimeters the best I could. Is there really that much of difference between what you guys think which is either 72 or 74 mm and ~71.44.
I'm pretty damn positive that these wheels fit e39 five series unless lots of people with five series have nothing better to do than photo shop their cars with these wheels on them

okay at this point i just want to get rid of these wheels, i dont want to go into why i have them, but i just want to get atleast some of my money back......
so can anyone offer any constructive advice as to why these WON'T fit e39 five series, because that is where most of my interset is coming from, that is people who drive e39s, mostly 530i, 525, and 528 i think.
they are already getting bid on via ebay and i am really not trying to screw anyone over with wheels that don't fit their car.
They are 18x8j, offset 17.5 mm (I measured this), and the center bore is around 72 mm ( I measured that too)
Thanks,
Chris

That's why.

ChrisStyle 37's were available on e39's and e38's. e39's have a larger bore than any other series. That's why it's easy to run e39 wheels on other series, just slap rings on and you're good. However, for us to run wheels from other series, they need to be bored out and spacers added. Most e39ers don't wanna be bothered with all that work and rather just get the correct bore and offset to reduce the chances of a bad bore job and having vibration. Having the correct offset gives a bigger lip than a high offset with spacers. And regarding the difference between 74 and 72 mm, no there's not that big of a difference, only a 72mm hub wheel wont fit on a 74mm hub. It's 2mm to small, simple. You will get most questions from e39ers because that wheel is a popular choice. Be honest and tell them the wheel is e38 specs.

So let me make sure i am understanding this correctly:
-e39s have a 74 mm hub wheel.
-to fit these wheels on an e39 you need to bore out the wheels about 2 mm or so?
I am going to get my micrometer from work this afternoon and get about as close to an exact measurement as you could ever want for the true center bore of these wheels.
I think I should stick with what I know, three series!
Thanks for the help
cemimms 08-10-2007, 10:33 PM Just wanted to thank you guys for alerting me to the center bore issue with e39s. I have revised the ebay listing removing e39s from the list of compatible cars.
Just to be safe though, the e34s are good with the center bore??
Thanks,
Chris
