is the ediabas software comparable to gt1. can you program with it. what are its limitations. are the versions available on the internet legitimate. I have original bmw gt1 software at home, but I have a hard time following the instructions to load it onto a pc. any info would be greatly appreciated. also, are the laptops with gt1 on the internet fully functional like the dealer gt1 and sss.

I'm not far from you, shoot an email if you want to drive up and see all this sh*t work.

EDIABAS software is better then Gt1, it can do things which Gt1 can't, and it is tons faster. Yes you can program with it, the versions on the internet are legit, but are missing many things and are old. And no, it is not a "internet" laptop, like for browsing youtube and such, it can connect to a network, but not one like a common computer, You can of course open another desktop in the X gui, and load up Sco unix, but :P you'll be playing with old old netscape version lol.

Kirby I am going to nitpick you ;-)

EDIABAS is just a software component that facilitates communication with control units.

DIS/GT1 use EDIABAS to talk to the car. So does INPA.

The versions on the internet (and the ones that people are selling) are stolen. They are legit in that they work and are useful.

eleet :( not fair! But, some of the easily found ediabas versions on the net are incomplete, for example german only. :P or missing some car configs, and such.

eleet

Yeah the missing pieces can be copied off of GT1, except for some of the car scripts.

Hopefully I will know enough to write my own scripts soon! Won't it be nice to have INPA on your carpc logging engine parameters? For sure it can pull information that OBD2 software can't touch, and, will work on pre OBD2 cars too.

versions floating around the net are missing files for ncs expert and you cant copy files from the gt1 cd's to make it work.

Yup, I ran into a few instances where some copies won't even boot because of missing .ini's or incompatible .sys's files. :P

all the files you need can be found on the SSS dvd

i dont think so, ncs expert floating around is missing many .lzh archives.

I have installed Ediabas 6.4 on my notebook. Using with a PCMCIA to RS-232 serial adapter and 'One Stop Factory' OBD2 interface. When I select an ECU, this error message is displayed. ' VARIANT CHECKING ! IFH-0018 INITIALIZATION ERROR Program will be stopped' This is followed by a host of other errors eg. ' ApiCheckJobStatus ERROR #95 Sys-005 Object not found '
No Battery voltage or Ignition on is displayed. I don't think the program can see the comm port. Where do I need to set this? Port selection is required for the other diagnostic software I have . I think this requires editing an .ini file, but where?. Advise from experienced Ediabas users would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try OBD.INI

port has to be set to com1, rc my comp>properties>hardware>device manager>com>advanced> select "com1" for the port.

I am pretty sure OBD will work on any windows serial port, if you set it in the INI.

I don't have ' OBD.ini ' on my C:\. In which folder should this be? Should I copy this from the CD to Windows?. I have installed the 'OBD driver' as directed during setup.

eleet

It belongs in c:\windows or system32. There is a pdf that describes the OBD.ini and what goes in it.

If it's on a laptop, try disabling the infrared. Easiest way would be thru the bios, and stop the service in Windows Nt/2k/xp you'd go to start>Run and type in services.msc, go to infrared, double click, put startup at disable and stop the service. Otherwise it's the obd.ini file, which must be in C:\windows if it's xp, NT is C:\winnt. It can also be a improper COM setting, s you are using a PCMCIA, it may not be set as COM1, go to Device Manager, and force it to use COM1.

Reading through all the info i could find. Softing recommends using a USB to Serial adaptor. Fortunately I already have one that is already set to Com port 1. I have all diagnostic functions when used through OBD2. Communication is limited on older cars with round connector. So far only SRS and EWS.

eleet

For the round connector you need an "ADS" style interface.

The OBD interface does not have any L-line support.

Hi,
Can someone post the contents of obd.ini file.
I have windows 98 and when I run obdsetup.exe it gives an error: only runs on windows nt.
So if I copy it to c:\windows folder it should work.
Any other ides, other than installing windows NT?
Thanks

you can't run obd setup.exe on non nt based operating systems, no way around that. i don't think the obd.ini file is going to help because i didn't originally have it on my install and everything works fine for me. i added it to c:\ediabas for kicks but idk if it makes any difference. here is the contents of mine...

Thanks very much. I copied OBD.ini to ediabas/bin and windows and windows/system folders and now ediabas works very well.
So win98 is fine

I need help getting this to work. Maybe its justs me but the various versions of ediabas/inpa software all give me errors when i try to run, missing api.dll,api32.dll??

Did you try reinstalling ediabas? Choose only one compleate item at the time. Most of the distributions on the net come NOT complete. Almost all off them don't have NTS Expert and NTS. So start with the top and work your way down, rebooting and testing after every time.

even the versions bmw fse's(field service engineers) get are not complete. they have to update them via the gis server. the latest inpa "available" afaik is 5.0.2, you can find the new version on emule. ediabas 6.4.7/inpa 5.0.2

Hi,
I am new to this bmw thing and i would like to enable some features on the car which will cost me $180 AUD just for the dealer to turn it on from the computer lol.
Can somebody please tell me if it is possible for me to enable those options such as automatic locking, turning on blinkers when unlock/lock, etc.
Which program? and where can i get them?
and are they just a normal windows software? or are they an actual OS where i will need another laptop because from reading the above msges it sound like EDIABAS is an OS. Also do i need a special cable to connect the laptop to the car?

Thanks

You need special cables, they cost around 100-800$ USD depending where you find them. Depending on your car you could go the cheaper STD:OBD or more expensive ADS interface.

Just pay the 180AUD and you'll be done with it. ;)

i have the followingNCS3.1.0 "coapi 3.5.1B" can code all current BMW models,NFS 5.1.0 and the old 5.0.2 with edited files for E70,R56 E89 and some F01 files (not all just yet )
And also fully functional D-CAN interface. Not the OMITEC/SOFTING!!!:redspot
If you are reading this and and have tried coding, flashing ecu with the net versions of NCS and WinKfpt you probably know that are not working .There are a few config files that wll not allow you to do it.:alright
