View Full Version : What's next on YOUR mod list??
MattE21 03-06-2003, 12:35 AM hey all. just wondering what people are going to be / or are currently modding on their cars.
i think im up for a body kit of some type and then muffler
what about you guys? what are your plans?? Lets get this forum realy active so it gets up there in terms of most active..!
You might want to move this to General Discussions....
Next up:
Ground Control Street (or maybe school) Coilovers
GC RSM's
Powerflex RTAB
Rear Clears
Hopefully i'll be able to have that in by this summer.
MattE21 03-06-2003, 12:54 AM nice to hear.. but it was kinda a question for the E21 guys... what they were moding next on their E21..
hehehe, yeah i was gonna say, someone actually sells rear clears for e21's
future mods (in no particular order):
-coilovers & camber/caster plates (probably from TopEnd)
-4-piston caliper front brakes
-bigger rims (at least 15's)
-hopefully recaros, in 'parchment' (the light light tan color)......or just reupholster my current seats.
-a rebuilt & improved m10 engine w/ a hint of boost :devillook
i'm hoping to get the engine done before next year, just depends on $$$ and if i decide to get another car for a daily, or at least for summer driving (there wont be any a/c in the 320i when it's turbo'd)
Evan e21 03-06-2003, 09:48 PM Hmmmm... not sure what mods to do next.
1. Suspension-Bilstein sports and eibachs
2. Factory front spoiler
3. Factory recaros
4. Exhaust
Yonkers320is 03-06-2003, 10:13 PM rims
front battering ram removal
window tints (NYC summer is hot and humid)
rebuild of 2 liter motor from 2002 with carbs (glad father is a mechanic, no charge....)
G.J. Dixon 03-08-2003, 12:55 AM My List:
1- Get Engine Running!
2- if I can't, spend what ever it takes to do so!
3- then put it back together and see how it works!
4- if it doesn't work, do what it takes to make it work!
5- once I get it to work, modify rear suspension before I rip it out of the car!
EdgePerformance 03-08-2003, 09:57 AM Next mod is a long list of stuff including but not limited to...
1) Set of lowering springs (Spax, H&R or something else NOT Eibach) and mating them with my Koni setup
2) Suspension Techniques Sways
3) All New Air Hoses, Fuel Hoses, Brake Lines, and Wiring to start!
4) Stipping car as we speak to repaint the stock Black interior & exterior (maybe not engine bay right now! :)
5) Strut Tower Braces front and rear from Top End most likely with relocation of my Optima red top Battery
6) Some sort of Custom Dash for my 6 disc in dash Cd changer and tape decks from Eclipse, with all new speakers throughout!
7) Performance Spark plugs, Wires, Distributor Cap and Rotor
8) some sort of ignition upgrade setup (Jacobs, Crane, MSd or something else)
9) WAY DOWN THE ROAD... some larger rims (maybe?)
10) Swap my cloth recaros for some good vinyl or leather ones + some cash and get a vinyl rear seat (hate cloth rears)
11) E30 euro headlight swap
12) SOme sort of body kit :) Trying to track down a wide body kit right now worldwide!!! If not that then BMW Motorsport Front and EUropean Rear bumper with some sort of custom rear apron, and possibly a custom e36 M-technic to e21 side skirt setup.
13) Some new and improved fog lights like Raybrig r1000 twins or Piaa 3 way Fog, and Driving lights ($399).
14) Oh hell let's dream now.... M102 engine swap, or settle for a s14, or really lower my expectations and do the m42 setup in a year to a year and a half MOST, or find some way to make the M10 a super silly HAAS! :)
That should cover enough for now...

MattE21 03-08-2003, 09:58 AM yeah! get the engine running firstoff.. hopefully that wont cost you too much money!
how bad is it? does it need a rebuild or just some tlc and an oil change/ gas change and simple little stuff?
whats the mileage on it?
i just broke 198k this week
MattE21 03-08-2003, 10:02 AM edge performance: welocome to the boards!
thats a lot to get done! i have about half of that accomplished...
ill be able to help you with some tips on the E30 headlight swap and custom dash for the cd player.
why not eibach springs??? i have them and feel that they are equal to H&R..
BimmerDawg 03-08-2003, 10:02 AM Hmmmm...I was going to set mine up for SCCA, but decided to put that off or a while. She's already partially gutted, and I removed the front bumper, now I just have to clean the front up a little bit. She's just gonna be my beater for now, so no performance mods planned, just regular maintenance.
EdgePerformance 03-08-2003, 10:15 AM Well The Air, Fuel, & Brake Lines are all original on the car first off so they gotta go, having problems with the electrical system so it is getting rewired, but other then that the drive train is fine, just going to flush and fill every fluid with fresh new fluids and engine oil and tranny with AMSOIL. Not to mention Konis all around after I remove the boge in front and Sachs in rear setup (will be the backup), and once I get some cursed springs that lower the SOB. Have to also replace the hard lines between the fuel pump, accumulator, and fuel filter (easy). Not to mention I have already stripped the entire interior minus the top part of the dash and gauges which has to be finished the carpet taken out and fill the circular holes in the floor pans with sheet metal, and clean and coat the underside of the car, and repaint the entire thing
Also going to attempt a 6 series tail light swap perhaps as I have rust around the rear tail light area rather badly and I hate the small rear e21 tails. Thought about doing a e30 but they do not wrap around the side like I wanted and are not right for the car, if not the 6 series then maybe a e12 or e28 perhpas. Have to do measurements this week! Getting the whole fuel system including fuel distributor, lines, injectors, fuel pump, accumulator, & fuel filter this week with the hard lines. :) I need to take some pics and sen it in to Bimmer mag or some mag as this is not some fly by night or simple remodeling project. :)
Jared
EdgePerformance 03-08-2003, 10:16 AM also forgot I am putting in 77-79 gauges which I already have!
MattE21 03-08-2003, 10:19 AM big list! you should talk to ///ME21 !!
my bro attila is going crazy with his litle racer E21// just got repainted / rebuild and turbo on the way!
EdgePerformance 03-08-2003, 10:53 AM cool, yeah i am talking to several people about a possible turbo, or better yet an engie swap. Talked a few times with a guy that goes by silvanator on Roadfly who just got a turbo 320i. He is not 100% sure what setup it is but it sounds like the rare Baur setup.
G.J. Dixon 03-08-2003, 11:20 AM Yeah its costing me alot of money to do this engine project, but it will be well worth it when it is done! It will wind up costing me about 10k by the time I'm done with that part of the project.
Here's a photo:

This is all I'm going to say for now! As soon as I get my latest photos developed, I will post a few! :evil2
BoostedE21 03-08-2003, 01:42 PM Hey guys.......wow some of tese mod lists are very nice, there is nothing much I can do but:
My turbo set (in works)
and bigger brakes and dish brakes in the rear
and maybe make my own rear apron.........
Almost everything I want to do is done and that can be done is done ( I think). Do to see you fellow E21'ers:buttrock
Evan e21 03-08-2003, 07:20 PM Edgeperformance why not eibach springs over others, any specific reason. Im lookin to buy some springs soon and would like to hear your testimony
Yonkers320is 03-08-2003, 08:02 PM All this talk about turbos, has anyone seen the 2002 turbo? Does anybody know if the dealer can order the exhaust manifold? or if any other places carry it?
That would be the easiest way to turbo the M10.
EdgePerformance 03-08-2003, 08:15 PM You can get the 2002 tii Exhaust manifold all day long via several junk yard like Jurrasic Parts, Bavarian Auto Recyclers, maybe Aardvark, and I would guess also Zygmunt up near philly. If you need help let me know!
EdgePerformance 03-08-2003, 08:18 PM Regarding the Eibach Springs for daily driving the Pro-kit I didn't like on every single car I have ever driven with them on! These are race springs not daily drivers and unless you plan on taking things at least 10MPH faster over bumps and so on then you will feel every bump in the road hardcore.
MattE21 03-08-2003, 09:47 PM i love the race feel of my eibachs.. wouldnt trade em for anything..
yo guys.. i want a body kit bad... anyone have the resources to fabricate one/??
i dont wanna pay more than like 200 for sideskirts and a rear skirt...
G.J. Dixon 03-08-2003, 10:57 PM If you want a turbo manifold, you may be able to get one from BMW since they are making alot of older parts again. If not then you can get a Turbo kit from Top End Performance in California or if you are lucky you may be able to find a Callaway Turbo kit!
EdgePerformance 03-10-2003, 05:47 AM Turbo kits are no problem! At least they were made at one time for the 320i they were never made for my 92 Nissan Maxima I had, and I had all the components and diagrams and was a few months off from making it reality, till my roomie crashed it. Oh well now I have the e21 and it is much better! Still got my intercooler, Blitz Dual SBC boost controller, and a few other things, and have been looking at down the road at a modified 2002tii exhasut Manifold perhaps, or a custom one. Already going custom exhaust anyways with a DTM style Muffler, and straight pipe setup + hi flow cat from either catco, carsound, or another company and custom mandrel bent welded and jet hot coated pipes. :D
MattE21 03-10-2003, 12:41 PM ooee! i'd like to learn everything about our exhaust setup so i can plan out a custom one for myself. i want a remus... whats our pipe size?? i just want to get something thast sounds good without screaming rice...
EdgePerformance 03-10-2003, 06:44 PM Well I am going to have to get a custom header still down the road, been doing research into that, but mine will be a homemade mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust using a DTM muffler I have with one 2.5" inlet and (2) 3" DTM outlets, a catco, carsound, or Random Tech, or new style custom cat I can get with metal alloy honeycomb with 2.5" in/out, no resonator and a 4 into header or turbo manifold if I decide to go turbo quicker then originally planned! Call me anytime at (859) 224-9551 and we can talk about this an other things!
Yonkers320is 03-14-2003, 12:29 AM Yeah, Mobile Tradition. Forgot about that; I have a 2 liter motor from a ti that I want to rebuild with my father, he wants to put 2 weber or de'llorto carburetorors and a hot cam, and do a little head work ( the niceties of having a race mechanic/ tuner as family) But I want to turbo it wirth an e30 electrical fuel injection, but the manifold was elusive....
I saw a callaway turbo 320 on ebay for something close to 800 bucks
