Make plans to join us for the Choctaw Oktoberfest German Car Show, Saturday September 8th. Classes for BMW Cars, BMW Bikes, Mini, MercedesBenz, Porsche, VW & Audi.
The festival formerly held at the Old Germany Restaurant for the last 10-12 years, will again return to the Choctaw city park, just west of Choctaw Road on NE 23rd Street/Highway 62. New expanded facilities, including a larger permanent pavilion will allow for even more space and functions. The actual festival has now been expanded to four days, running from September 5th to its conclusion on the 8th.
The food and Bier selections will however remain the same. See the Old Germany website, www.oldgermany.com for additional Oktoberfest details and a map of the new location. The address is 1900 Harper St. in Choctaw at the Choctaw Creek Park.
The Food Tent will open a Noon on Saturday, featuring some reconfigured serving stations to make it easier to get your Wursts and Bier. It is anticipated that a Jumbotron TV screen will be added to display the activities of the event. And for the football fans, a big screen TV or two will be available to keep up on the day's games.
We will welcome BMW Motorcycles to our show this year to go along with the already fine display of BMW's, Mini, MercedesBenz, Porsche, VW, and Audi automobiles, as we will enjoy the additional space to work with.
It is a Show and Shine format, not a true Concours. It is for fun and to share with friends, while eating and drinking, as we admire the nice cars and bikes. Folks will be doing the final dusting and shining after they arrive, although there is no place to wash.
Trophies will be awarded for each make, plus trophies for the Highest Mileage, Most Original, Most Modified, Judge's Choice, and the Austin Weisman People's Choice.
The $10/car entry fee entitles you to a T-shirt. Voting for the Austin Weisman People's Choice Trophy will again be done by making financial contributions into the containers by the cars. The contributions and all entry fees are charitable tax deductible contributions to benefit the two charities supported by our late former Sunbelt Chapter BMWCCA President Austin Weisman.
Set up and placement of the cars is requested beginning at 1pm, with the hopes of having cars in place by 2pm. Judging is to start at 4pm. Trophies and awards will be announced at the 6pm band break. Advance registration by phone or email is requested.
As has been the tradition since the inception of the Old Germany Oktoberfest, club members are invited to volunteer as workers for the Festival to help serve Bier and food. To sign up as a volunteer, contact mike@oldgermany.com to get on the list.
