At my last event, I cracked my windshield. I just had it replaced and wow, what a difference non pot marked, clear glass makes.
My question... to protect my new windshield I'm contemplating using a tear off (something like this http://www.protint.com/ProShieldRacingTear-Off.ivnu) and wanted to get folks opinions if it's useful or not.
Thanks.

tear off guys . com
Use them on the grand am cars. They really look like there is nothing there at all. Definatley worth it. Have had no experience with those particular ones though.

Another one you might try is this:

I had a bad experience with the tearoff guys ones. At Miller last year, we took off one of the layers and there was a good amount of residue left on the next layer. This was really bad as we had to bring the car back in for another stop and take off all of the tearoffs. Lucky for us, it left the windshield perfectly clear. For, the 6, 9 and 24hr races, the ones from cole come off really easy and that's a bonus for me. We go through 4 layers at a 24hr race.
For any tearoffs, if you have a lexan windshield and live where it gets really cold, you will have air bubbles appear. This is due to the differences in expansion and contraction of each of the materials.

Did you try to put a treatment between each layer to reduce the residue left behind? I forgot the company, but there is a product used for this on offroad visors, and its the same exact material and should pretty good, almost like a release film.
This is the compay that Cole place uses, looks good, 4 tearoffs in one install. http://www.racingoptics.com/html/Window_System.htm

A rep from the company came by and installed the product (they show up at most of the GA races).

Thanks guys.. I'm going to try out the Racing Optics single layer from Cole's. They say it will last 6 mos or so and it seems like a small price to have a clear windshield.
