The engine just stopped yesterday all of the sudden. Then it barely restarted and then it just died. The engine turned but it would not start. I checked and there was no spark. Then today I cleaned all connections I could see and wiggled relays etc and it started. The problem now is that it idles fine just like before, but if you give it gas the engine pulsates at even intervals. It picks up and then it chokes and so on at 1sec intervals. It does drive if I keep the engine at around 1000rpm. Any ides? Thanks!

Bad coil or maybe ecu. Throw in a spare and see what happens. Bentley has a procedure for checking coil. If it is your ecu, no real easy way to check except to put in a new one. You should always carry a spare with you with these older cars. You can pick one up on ebay for cheap.

Check the Throttle Position Switch, It should open immediately to stop the ECU from trying to use the ICV to control the idle.

thank you for the advice! .... I also called a friend and he said it could also be the fuel pump not giving enough fuel pressure. I remember couple of days ago the pump was sounding a little louder than usual. What do you guys think?

i had an ECU problem a while back that caused quite a few driveability problems. just recently swapped the AFM for hesitation/jerking while accelerating, and surprisingly runs much better.
