Hello all,

ive just got myself a 1989 635 auto in black..its the first one ive ever owned and am loving it!...

but im confused!!!! its got a full leather dash. does this mean that its an L6 or "Highline" as we call them here in the uk??
dont know if it makes a difference but its got all the toys as well....electric seats , headlamp wipers etc!
recently found out that it needs a new head gasket as well!! started losing coolant! its not overheating but does anyone know if i'll do any damage to the head if i drive it like this!!

How did you determine it needs a new head gasket? If it is leaking coolant, there might simply be a leak in your colling system.

But if it is a head gasket leak, park it until you fix it. You dont want to warp the block, or any other damage.

A leather dash does not mean it is an L6. Those models were made in 1987 alone. There are high-line models that include the leather dash as well. Does yours have a leather interior roof?

L6 was a US-only car. What you have is a highline - think most of the late E24's in Europe had that option...

when i noticed the coolant going down i checked for leaks and everything and found nothing, but then i checked the oil cap....it has the sludge on it that you get!

in terms of the highline thing, its got the stitched leather just above your head but then vinyl for the rest of it

Yes - it was an option in Europe through the end of production. For some reason, I've seen many more UK cars that had it - seems pretty rare for other Euro cars...

Uh oh .... thats is not a good sign. :(

but that is just the head gasket right?????? im getting a friend of mine to fix it.....but what do i need to get in preperation??? you might have guessed, i havent got a clue when it comes to engines!!
