View Full Version : Best place to take your Bimmer in Honolulu
elsVert 08-06-2007, 10:01 PM Hey all,
I've had experiences both with BME as well as Bimmer service. I'm looking at my inspection II and a auto fluid change on the M3 coming up, and I just wanted to toss it out there. I'm not looking to start a bash session or anything, I was just interested if anybody had a go to guy or somebody they preferred.
Thanks ahead of time.

BCKane 08-06-2007, 10:22 PM Bavarian Auto? Bavarian Auto? Cheap compared to Dealership, but still costs a pretty penny. Other guys will know a lot more.

lost808 08-06-2007, 11:02 PM Try German Auto Specialist @ 836-1675 (On Nimitz) or
A&A Motor Werkes @ 739-1599 (On Kapahulu)
I have used both and recommend both. I had my Inspection I at German Auto and he was quick.
The Beastmaster 08-06-2007, 11:42 PM Gerard Simoes at Motor Werkes or Scott Schulte at German Auto Specialists are the only 2 I would trust.
elsVert 08-07-2007, 12:02 AM Dang a response from Beastmaster! That's high praise coming from Beasty. What's should an inspection II cost me from those guys? I was quoted 625 minus the 125 I paid for an oil change and an inspection at Bimmer service (around 500 I guess). Is that about right?
I also have to do the auto trans fluid drain and fill. What should that cost me? 2 bills?
MRFLEX 08-07-2007, 12:12 AM $500 is about the price you will be paying. On the auto trans filter and fluid change, you might be better off doing it yourself.
I do have a auto trans filter kit which was for my 97 M3 for sale along with the fluid, check if they are the same I'll sell the whole thing for $40.00.
The Beastmaster 08-07-2007, 12:14 AM Not sure what Insp2 runs, but I'm having that done on an E46 tomorrow.
els - are you interested in a hardtop for your vert?
The Beastmaster 08-07-2007, 12:25 AM Oh yeah, I would also give the nod to A&A as Albert and Tony are former BMW techs and friends of mine. BME is good, but I don't know who will be doing the work on your car so I'm a little hesitant on that. If Voytek did the work, I have no problem.
Blitzkrieg Bob 08-07-2007, 12:58 AM Inspection II
Is a big job, a lot gets replaced and checked
Fluids, filters, belts, hoses, and fresh air flush for the tires

ditto
elsVert 08-07-2007, 01:09 AM Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like A and A is where I need to be going. Do they know you as Beastmaster?
I'll take the M down to them this week if possible.
Fluid: Do you think I can just rock that in the driveway? I used to do everything under the sun to my own cars, but I left most of my tools (all) in NJ when I moved out here.

They know me as Bryan O. from BMW CCA.

Fluids may be a challenge if they do the trans on your Inspection II. it's a fill through a piko on the side of the pan, hot, on a level surface, and may take a couple a top offs for good luck.

what he said...
Scott Schulte is good, but $$$...
I'm giving A&A a shot on the 20th, heard nothing but good about them...
poser 08-07-2007, 01:53 AM with the exception of the auto-trans (i have no idea how to do that one), doing your own inspection 2 isnt too bad...
i'm sure members here could help/walk you through it if you decided to do it yourself...
MRFLEX 08-07-2007, 03:19 AM Just realized my 330 will be coming up for the Inpection I in about 9500 miles.
99MPower 08-07-2007, 08:40 AM is that for sure now Flex, you keeping the 330?
I have 2 guys on the ship looking for 03-05 330's, and both have come to me, asking me to help them find some cars to look at when we get back.
If anybody else has some they know of, let me know via email at brandtct@ddg60.navy.mil so I can forward it on if needed
igyloo 08-07-2007, 01:12 PM I'd recommend A&A as well. Albert and Tony are very accomidating and they definitely know their stuff.

If you're going to have your trans serviced I'd take it to BME. Unless the other shops have a Modic or GA (I think that's what the new BMW computer is called) have BME do the trans service. I know everyone has their own idea's about a trans service but to me, the transmission is nto someplace I want to take chances with. BME has the ability to determine correct fluid temperature and refill and drain at the same time. The correct way of servicing your trans.
By the way, Hawaii Import Parts carries Pentosin Auto Trans fluid if that's what your car takes. Can't remember what it costs but it's WAY less than what BME charges.
You can take your car to anyone else to do the rest of the inspection job.

It's right next to the recon station near Market City.

Ask Beastie, I used to work on his E32 750iL. Must've been almost ten years now.
Now that I look back I think the drugs I took in high school were still working!:lol

If your trans takes the Long Life fluid then you can save yourself $'s by buying Pentosin from HIP. I guessing here but I think BME might charge $30-$40/liter of Long LIfe fluid. I think my fluid change took 7-8 liters so you're talking serious money for just the fluid. However, if you can get away with a regular synthetic then the savings won't be that great.
I think they charge about $200 to do it. Take in your own filter kit. HIP can get those too.
