Anyone try putting this engine in a e36? Its an inline engine so there shouldnt be problems fitting it. The intake is pretty tall and might not clear the hood though

Its a shame that GM themselves don't put that engine into a rear-drive chassis -- voila -- a 5-series car for half the $$. The 4.2 six cyl is an advanced, all alum, sweet package. Tip it over 30 degs to the right ....

It might be a nice swap engine, but the oil pan would be trouble ... while the 4.2 is probably lighter than a BMW six, it is just as tall and would have to be tipped over to the right in an E36. Not a show stopper, but considerable extra work to do for the swap.
