View Full Version : fatal accident involving E36 M3
dieselm3 03-05-2003, 12:12 AM a silver E36 M3 coupe was being chased by Brookline (MA) police tonight on the jamaicaway (in brookline) when the m3 slammed into a honda accord, one fatality. I'm not sure why I'm posting this, I guess I'm wondering if the car was stolen, if so, was it stolen from someone on this board? there were few others involved in the accident that were sent to the hospital, hopefully they pull thru.
C///M 03-05-2003, 12:27 AM Ouch. I hope it was the runaway driver who was killed, not the innocents in the Accord or any of the other involved cars...
dieselm3 03-05-2003, 09:26 AM eyewitness reported that the driver of the M exited their vehicle under their own power
C///M 03-05-2003, 09:31 AM They should have shot him (her?) on the spot.
Vitolo 03-05-2003, 12:58 PM The car was not stolen. I was in it minutes before this happened :(
Still trying to cope with all of it, and thanking God I got out of the car right before I watched it unfold in front of me.
WhiteM32 03-05-2003, 01:19 PM Hey Jon V. Glad to see you are ok, it's a terrible tragedy what happened, count your blessings my friend, My sincere condolences go out to the young woman and her family, and may god have mercy on the drivers soul......:(

can you give us the details? Whose car was it? Why were they running from the police?
C///M 03-05-2003, 03:34 PM Damn, I just read the thread on DTM.
Vitolo, I'm glad you weren't in that car, man. I know you're physically ok, but I hope you get emotionally better soon, too!
Jgent 03-05-2003, 10:56 PM Why was he running from a $35 ticket? Article said he crossed the center line? The weather last night wasn't bad at all.
Feel really bad for the girl and family, feel bad for the 22 yr old guy and his poor decision, he is going to have to live with that for the rest of his life but at least he has one.
He had his license suspended, the cops arent telling because they want the public opinion OFF THEM.
I know that Mr Rudolph is completely wrong and deserves the time. HOWEVER, I hope his lawyer has the balls to pin some of this on the COPS. This goes back to my rants on the police. Having driven about 150,000 miles in the past 9 months I constantly see the cops in action. There have been times that I wonder if Hans Stuck is driving the car with the 13yo girl and he brother in it when a Statie pulls a U-turn on 93n to 93S, he swings wide with NO regard for those in the two right lanes then cuts through the divide and swings THROUGH ALL THREE lanes, with cars scattering. The above dad went OFF THE road to avoid getting hit. Then the time that another statie was sitting in the median and pulled out to get a speeder in the rightmost lane and almost flipped a van full of kids. This Asshole was so shaken he pulled to the side of the road with lights and siren on and leaned against his car with his head in his hands.
I have seen SO MANY innocent lives almost taken by police chasing a speeder. These are just two of the most recent incedents that happened in the last 2 weeks of driving. These cops are supposedly TRAINED and they are taking lives, there is no telling what the kid or whoever they are chasing is doing but I would guess it is MUCH worse, seeing so many people DIE because the FRICKIN cops love the chase so much.
I completely understand that this 22yo is at fault and should have never run. But WHY did they chase him!!!! what about the witness that was walking his dog? What if the cop lost it? In most chases around here by the town losers I find out from the cops in the said town that 1 or more cruisers were wrecked.
When is this Bullshit gonna stop? most cops have a video, get the car and radar speed on video and mail a ticket. Or have the cops make SURE the guy knows he ISNT being chased.
In this case the effect WASNT worth the ticket or arrest of the kid. Don't start with "what if it was a stolen car" Ask a cop that you know about a stolen car. He will tell you that MOST of the cops KNOW who the thief is. They will also tell you it is a WHOLE lot better to let the insurance company deal with the car. Don't sell the cops short they may not know the exact person but they know the general group that would steal. SO NO cop is going to chase a stolen car unless there is a damn good reason. If they had this kids plate I guarantee they knew about his suspended license.
This is a terrible accident that SHOULD have been avoided. I think the Brookline PD is full of shit when they say that they broke off. I have NEVER heard a cop breaking off.
One last thing. My idiot bro ran from a cop once, he ran out of gas and got arrested for the same thing sus.lic. You know what the cop said? That was the biggest rush, you almost got me killed 4 times, I can't believe you drove that road so well.
This cop turns out had a wife and kids, that he almost gave up to chase my brother. THANK GOD m bro ran out of gas and got nailed, because it did teach him a bit about running. Just a little look inside a cops head, and it is SCARY
DocWyte 03-06-2003, 11:40 AM Oh COME ON! This little moron RAN FROM THE COPS! That's why this poor woman is dead! The police have NO responsibility in this at all. This is exactly why our society is falling apart, it's always someone else's fault.
If this guy had done the right thing and pulled over, none of this would've happened.
No offense John, but would you like to have a trooper's job? Poor hours, poor pay and dangerous working conditions? Those guys have alot of heart to pick that career and I respect them all.
Actually I dont know a trooper that makes UNDER 70k. Quite a few of the Cops in my town own 2 houses. I don;t disrespect cops, I thouhgt I made it clear it was his fault.
I think that police do a little too much traffic enforcement and a little teeny bit of getting real criminals out of the population.
There is no need to chase someone, and it is related to the police chasing him. Lots of lives get ruined for a ticket and dont let the cops fool you, they ARENT nailing major criminals on traffic stops.
I will say at least in my town they only chase if a certain cop is on that is a driving instructor for the academy and a race car instructor. They WONT chase otherwise.
What about the 2 cops that are still in comas cuz they tried to chase Bikes on different occasions? What about killing a mom and her kids because some idiot wont stop? What about killing a dad and his two kids to run down a guy going 80 in a 65?
I guess we should all just instantly KNOW a cop is on us and stop. The problem is a cop thinks he has a force field around him when he starts to chase. Right, people should stop, Hell people SHOULD NOT even commit crimes but they do. Unfortunately the POLICE are taught to be above that. Or maybe the Lowell Chief of police doesnt know what he was talking about when he came to my school. My degree is in CJ and every Chief I have met and spoken too ALWAYS told us or me to remember that. Life is full of risks and rewards. If something ISNT worth it let it go, no matter HOW emotionaly attached you are to it.
I have seen and heard way too many crashes etc, because a cop needed to chase 3 kids leaving hampton beach. Turned out they were late for curfew, now they are dead. I have seen guys beheaded by trees because the COPS needed to do a 180 infront of a guy on a bike , he hit sand went over a wall and was hung in a tree.
I have been to police training classes and seen the videos. The ones the dont make the show COPS. Sorry but a ticket ISNT worth a life.
You can sit there and insist the cops hands are clean. I KNOW how they work and they arent. I think the kid SHOULD be punished, but I DONT think the cops should get off scott free. I think you should chase to a point. Again there is the time in a chase you KNOW he wont be stopped with his brakes. At this point you COME up with ANOTHER plan.
The sick thing is that the cops said they broke off. THEY DIDNT
Again this kid doesnt seem to deserve owning a car and maybe his time in jail will help him see this.
RyanC 03-06-2003, 01:18 PM How do you know they didn't break off the chase? Last time I checked, it wasn't a Brookline PD cruiser that hit a car with two innocent women in it head on, killing one and injuring the other.
Jonathan's friend had no business doing what he did. It started with an illegal U turn, and end with the MURDER of an innocent woman, just for trying to avoid a crappy little ticket. He deserves a long spell in the worst pound-you-in-the-ass prison (thanks to Office Space for that one), and if you guys are trying to blame someone else for his wrongdoing you are out of your minds. Put your girlfriend, sister or mother in the front seat of that Accord, and tell me you would be singing the same tune. This isn't about if police should chase criminals or not, it's about the murder of an innocent woman. Sorry it's your friend, Jonathan, but he's a piece of crap who deserves the punishment he gets. There's no extenuating circumstances that can change this one simple fact.
beemaboi 03-06-2003, 02:38 PM I live right in Jamaica Plain and frequently take J-Way. This really hits home since I'm guilty of speeding down it once in a while. But to be so out of control to fly over the median onto on-coming traffic is just blatently reckless, and yes i think that John Rudolf needs to take responsibility for his actions.
Life is precious, and if you want to beat your car around, do it at a track. In the long run it will save you money on traffic tickets and most of all avoid these types of incidents from happening.
Just my thoughts
Jgent 03-07-2003, 12:24 AM News report said his license was suspended for drunk driving. Same news report (I think it was channel 5) said his license had be suspended 6 times.
Let me TRY THIS AGAIN, I said he is COMPLETELY AT FAULT. I think this HOWEVER, brings to attention the need for POLICE to stop these WILD chases that end in tragedy. Of COURSE it is his fault. THe kid is an IDIOT, IDIOTS run from the cops. He needs the time in prison to think about what he did.
BUT you guys arent following things to well, he got a MISDEMEANOR vehicular homicide charge, which means , he MAY end up with probation. This is strange, so there Must be something we dont know.
Of course ya'll think I am trying to defend his ass. Which I AM NOT, I just dont want MY GF, mother, or brother to get killed because a cop needed to chase a MORON for a 35$ ticket. See cops are SUPPOSED to be above a MORON.
Qazimov 03-12-2003, 02:11 AM It's been said many times.. If they really wanted to catch speeders they would put up traffic cameras... You'd get a ticket in the mail for minor offences, and if you did something real bad, you'd just wake up in handcuffs. I don't know about you, but I'd never speed in an area that I knew had traffic cameras that would bust me for it.
It's got to cost less to have a traffic camera up at each of those police pulloffs on the highway than to pay to have a cop sit in one all day.. The advantages would be huge but it would mean the end of a lot of jobs so it'll probably never happen.
Guan Yu 03-12-2003, 11:39 AM the problem with cameras is say the car is registered to my dad, and i drive the car all the time. who gets the ticket but my dad because the car is registered to him. same principle applys to lending cars to friends and then theres rentals and all that other stuff. the person that really is driving the car would not get the ticket but rather the person who owns the car.
then again it is true that i don't speed or do wrong things in areas with cameras so that is something alot better than having lots of police around.
the trouble with cameras that people will STOP SPEEDINGand the towns WONT get the green.
BAVARIAN323i 03-13-2003, 01:32 AM I agree that cameras are all over Europe and they work! People are scared sh*tless of them. Why not do that?
Instead, they chase people through populated areas where NOTHING is going to come of it....
Bimmer9938 03-15-2003, 12:11 PM No offense Jon , but you hang with the wrong crowds. How did I know you must have known him . My prays go out to the inocent woman and her family . My prays go out to Mr Rudulph too as buba is probally counting the days till he gets a new cell mate .
I don't know why the cops keep doing these chases. Just last night a Hingham cop flew by me doing well over 100mph on rt. 3a. I thought there must have been a robbery or somthing , just up the road I find a young man had a tail light out .
My friend lost her boy friend when he was chased by cops breaking up a party. Real smart, ya know everyone was drinkig at the party, and would have just stayed there . but no, break it up and get into a high speed chase!
A -Mr Rudolph should have pulled over.
B- The cop should have backed off and dispatched a road block.
C- The victem would now be alive.

RyanC 04-12-2003, 12:07 PM You mean those guys who risk their lives on a daily basis to keep the rest of us safe? Sure! It's just that I found your statement, blazen in it's disregard for punctuation and basic sentence structure, to be highly retarded. Your invitation to become the homosexual partner of the police department was intriguing, and more than a bit hilarious. So I guess I stand by my comment vis a vis your retardedness. Thanks!

Sometimes I wonder how the hell some of these people have amassed enough intelligence to have purchased a BMW, much less, joined a BMW board.

Well, normally I wouldn't care, but seeing as I was surprised when I read your post (it took me a few tries to figure out what you were trying to say, though), I figured I'd give it a shot. I will admit, though, you do make it pretty easy for me :D

Are the big mean police men mean to you when you're hanging out at the 7-11 with your kR3w?

Boy, I hope no Rehoboth police read this message board and find out that you hate them all. Their feelings might get hurt!
stjobs 04-12-2003, 07:35 PM I don't have a problem with most cops but I have to say, the motorcycle cop who issued me a ticket was extremely discourteous and curt (not in a good way)... I do think the amount of traffic violation and speeding enforcement that takes place is over-the-top in that it doesn't really solve anything. Very few accidents take place on the unlimited speed sections of the Autobahn compared to American highways, even though our speed is limited to 65 mph.
