i dont know if its even possible to get the GT1 software to work with anything but the diag head or OPS

the head communicates over LAN and is actually a windowsCE based computer
i know someone that made a cloned OPS head but he never got the voltage recognition working and dropped the project
i should give him a call and see where the leftovers are

would there be any interest for such a unit?

I know someone who may be able to supply them for a nice cost, so 4k is kinda expensive :\ Also, it's much better to salvage a old laptop and install it on..Vmware support is very cracky...plus you'd have to setup alot of different things that makes no sense :P

problem with old laptops is the ram. i just bought an old laptop with a com port but the ram is only upgradeable to 128meg. iirc dis needs 256meg. so you need a laptop w/com and upgradeable to 256meg.

dell latitude c600 and hp omnibook both are excellent for GT1 and have very similar hardware to the original machine

DIS runs fine w/ ram at 128 mb, I installed this on many machines successfully, and also 256mb ram when Gt1 came out was like 2gb today, it's uncommon :P Gt1/sss can be retooled to work with a k-line adapter, of course some functionality i assume is lost. Hp omnibook and Thinkpads are the choices I use for a Gt1 installation, it has flawless installation and drivers are out of the box, and dealing with sco...especially with server 5.5, drivers are a non-existant thing :P

It runs fine on VMWare. I have had zero problems. I have been using it under VMWare for four months.

I would not mess with an old PC or laptop. It is a royal pain to get installed if you have the wrong size disk (or modified the scripts.)

I can get new Dell Lattitudes with COM/DB9 ports for 800ish, 2gb of ram and Turion Procs.

Very interesting. Would be a huge help to smaller independents that can't get
there hands on a GT1, Dis, or Modic (are any of these even still in use). Now that dealers will be going to 3G starting this fall with complete integration within
2 years it may be worth holding out and actually pic up a gt1 though. I see them talking about V39. That software is pretty old,, we're up to cd 50 now and V51 will be out shortly.

I'm confused about how you comunicate with the vehicle though with no DK or OPPS heads. I don't forsee how this would work with all of our D-can vehicles now either.

I have not tested CAN yet. Someone brings me a car, I have an interface to try, I think it will work. Who's in Virginia?

We need to reinstall V44. Does anyone can help? The last time we paid some big $$$ to do so, including further head connecting. Thanks to "nuvola rossa" we all know how to do so with V39. Anyone can help with V49?

What would perhaps be easier is for someone to post their VMware hdd image it already installed. I finished the install of mine last night which was fairly straight foward but of course without the head/s it was just an exercise to see if I could do it.


I would do it but I only have 1500kb down and 256k up... hardly useful :(.

Hey everone, sorry for my english, my question is how to get those "custom disk needed" for that installation. I try it multiple times with the GT1 V39 install disk and if i boot second with the GT1 V39 Base i get only thoes hard disk partitioning errors:-(

i setup the VMware bit ok and it works fine but when i tried the installation of the GT1 software i got to the bit where it was insert the GT1 base cd and i rebooted, however when it came back on it said unable to initializse hard drisks and says system haulted.

Do i need the custom floppy disk to get this bit to work as per the questiona bove.

I am a step closer now, if i configure my vmware to have a ide primary master hdd and a primary slave cdrom, those harddisk partitioning errors doesnt come up, but after initializing runlevel 2, i get only the message that wd1 is running in pooling mode ( i assume that wd is the ide driver and he access the disk in PIO mode)

Does anybody has a idea??

6 months later I'm still looking for a source of a cheap diag. head. All I see on ebay for laptops + head combo well I have a Dell C610 & HP NC6220 (identical specs) so I just need a low cost head? Anyone?

Basically I paid someone to check my ABS and they said its not communicating but I put in a new module and the ABS light is still on and I need to figure this out!

With regard to the installation which boot image did you load in part 6 of the installation

4. Create an image of the V39 GT1 Base CD on your desktop.
5. open it with ultra ISO
6. load the supplied Boot image (bootable/load image) and save the updated image.
7. Burn the CD (or not if you are using images)
8. load the CD in to the PC and boot of the base CD-ROM.

THis isnt the problme I ham having, it boots from the CD/image fine but asks for root disk to be inserted.

Its sections 4-6 in my earlier post I am having troubles with. I have the V39 GT1 Base CD, but not sure what files to use to "load the supplied Boot image (bootable/load image)"
