View Full Version : Deep dish/lip OEM "M" Parallel Wheels?

Today I saw a 740 w/ deep dish/lip "M" parallel wheels. Are they OEM? Never seen them before. And I mean a considerable lip, esp. in the rear. My 750 is a Sport, and has the OEM regular "M" parallel wheels, but the lip on them is nothing compared to the wheels I saw today. Anyone know if they are indeed OEM? And if so, where can I get a set (hopefully not from the dealer)? And I'm assuming that since I saw 'em on a 740 there are no fitment issues w/ them?

Thanks!

They were probably replica M-Pars that you seen.
I have replica ones on my car (20") which BMW
didn't offer. 18" were too small for my satisfaction
but I have grown to luv them, and will eventually
buy a set of OEM M-Pars.

Definitely not OEM, as there was only one combination made for the E38 (8" front, 9.5" rear) and only in an 18" size.

Any idea of the wheel diameter?

Not sure. I'll see if I can go back and check it out, maybe even snap a few photos.

I agree, but it also depends on the wheel. For example, my old chrome 20s looked bigger than 20

but my new wheels most people confuse with 19 or even 18s

I have those deep dish wheels on my BMW 850ci. I'll post up the pictures. I have 19's.

The big difference between the OEM - or original 18" MPars and the rest is plain and simple weight and strength. The OEM MPars are forged where 99.9% of the aftermarket replicas are NOT!

This weight makes a big difference in ride, remember unspung weight...and the negitives. It even effects performance to a lesser degree - you can tell the difference. Just ask anyone that has taken their OEM MPars off and put the style 95's on from late model 740's. They all say they can definetely tell the loss.

There is a reason that BBS RS's, ForgeLines, BMW OEM MPars, etc. cost more - the forging process is more expensive to produce.

Oh, lastly there is the safety factor - if that means anything.
