View Full Version : should be an "i can't believe it" category
docgkr 08-03-2007, 03:36 PM I can't believer that there is no aftermarket "tuners" offering anything more than exhaust, throttle body, intake, and esu for the 645Ci. I just got back from yet another who told me that "since BMW made the 645 for such a short time, we aren't working an anything for that engine". Has BMW actually made a model that cannot EVER have a forced induction application??? I don't want to believe that I'm at a dead end of perforamnce already. I remember buying the car and thinking that I had a perfect platform on which to build a real fire-breather.............now, looks like I'm stuck with minimal performance upgrades and watching the rest of the bimmer world pass me by with the myriad of enhancements available for other models............................HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!! I'm at an 85K DEAD END!!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad:confused:bawling:censored:
I say give it time. There aren't a ton of them out there yet, and they are pretty new. It takes time to develop go-fast parts.
ElMeroMero 08-04-2007, 08:19 PM I say make your own custom twin turbo or twin-screw charger kit. Would make more power than a universal kit anyways...
xatlas0 08-05-2007, 12:26 AM The 645 and 650 share the same basic engine, albeit the 650 is a slightly stroked and bored version of the N62. The DMEs are even the same, ME9.2-s. So, any application would be able to work with both. However, if you bought the car thinking it would be a fire breather, you got the wrong car. I will be pretty suprised if they ever come out with any sort of FI setup for the new 6-ers, as they all use valvetronic, which would be an entirely different tuning aspect to consider, one that no custom tuner currently knows.
The one glimmer of hope would be to try and convert the Alpina B7's setup to your car, as they both work off the same basic engine. Even then, you'd have to get it from a wrecked B7, as Alpina doesn't sell the setup independently of a car. Then you'd have to deal with getting the 7-er anti-theft system from not freaking out about being in a 6-er.
Given how FI things are going with the new cars it will likely be about 10 years before anybody introduces a major FI kit, aside from Dinan, which will be in the range of 15k for a centri-based supercharger system, probably in a few more years.
The main problem boils down to the tuning. I suppose you could have some local shop fab up a system and have datalogs sent to a tuner in Europe, where tuners for the new systems are far more common.
If you want a tuneable monster, BMW is supposedly coming out with a TT V8 soon. I would be shocked if this powerplant didn't make it into a 6. That would be the motor to use for a monster car.
Besides, look at how previous BMW V8's get FI. Even now, more than 10 years after the V8 came back, there are a grand total of three centri supercharger kits: VF, ESS, and Dinan. That's it. No turbos, no twin screws, nothing.
e24mpwr 08-05-2007, 10:05 AM Interesting thought on the Alpina B7 motor, though my understanding is they did a lot more to that motor than bolting the screws up. Would be interesting to see what it would get though.
Hope someone makes something - if not, I'd be happy to take it off your hands...:jump
DGreekStallion 08-05-2007, 07:20 PM e24mpwr... My dad has the Alpina B7, it truly is a monster. The only bad thing is, we have to hit that thing to make the super audbile in the cab...
docgkr 08-22-2007, 10:48 PM I've decided to sell the 645Ci and buy next year's M6....at least then, I know I'll have a factory fire-breather, that with even minimal tweaking from Dinan, I should be satisfied........Here I come BMW weekend at Summit Point.
Thanks for all the help guys,,,,,,,,know anyone who would want to buy a slightly used 2005 645???
xatlas0 08-23-2007, 01:40 AM You may want to hang onto it for a bit longer, as BMW has been testing some twin-turbo V8s in the 7-er at the 'ring. This engine would undoubtedly go into the 6-er, as well. I would imagine, based on the 335's moddability, this new ttV8 would make an excellent platform for future enhancement, and would likely surpass the S85's performance with relative ease.
Mr. BMW 08-23-2007, 08:03 AM Wow, a lot is going on here... TTV8s, SC and other things...
Well for what its worth, I loved the 645 but the HP was something to be desired.:mad I then bought the 650 and was satisfied; that me.:D
What is interesting is all the talk from the OP about wanting a Fire Breathing Beast...:rolleyes So OP, what type, in numbers please kind of horse power you want in a BMW?
I hear you will look to the 500HP M6 but will that satisfy?
Do tell...
docgkr 08-23-2007, 11:20 AM Well, if you must know,,,I want over 500 HP,,,,,,and what is this "OP" label you're using? I never was referred to as an OP.
I have owned more powerful cars in the past and just want more from BMW,,,hope that answers your question.......Once I have the M6, I'm sure I will modify it to my desired specs if need be...........
Mr. BMW 08-23-2007, 11:29 AM OP = Original Poster
Are you the original owner of the 645 you brought? If so, did you have a chance to attend the 6 Series driving performance experience?
Where I am leading to since you haven't stated outright... You will not be satisfied with the M6 horsepower as well and it's all good to modify it. So having said that, why don't you seek a more native POWER house of a machine to achieve your 'Real' horsepower (needs) you wish to have under the hood.
Curiosity has struck me again... What are you going to do with all that HP?
xatlas0 08-23-2007, 12:33 PM Mods to the M cars will all give very minimal gains, aside from some means of forced induction. Given how long it took for some kind of FI for the S54 (more than 5 years) modding the M6 would be a pricey, almost fruitless endeavour for a long time. I concur with gbelton, the M6 would not be enough hp for you. Plus, it has very low torque, which it sounds like you want more of, rather than hp.
docgkr 08-23-2007, 01:37 PM oooooooooooooook,,,,,,,,let me elaborate,,,,,,,,I used to own some good old American Muscle in the 70s,,,,,,RR with 383, Hurst, Thrushes, turned in some decent times with that,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,in 1991, I purchased a M5,,,,,,,,,,in 1992, had the occasion to get a ZR-1 also. Well, the ZR-1 satisfied any man's power dreams,,,,,,,,but it was hit by a truck while driving on the NJ Tnpk 2 yrs later,,,,,,,,,over 20K worth of damage..........sold it as a result of being lucky once,,,,,,,,not likely to be repeated,,,,,,,,,,,which left me with the M5,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I drove that car till it had almost 187K on the oddie,,,,,,,,,then, bought a more practical driver for work,,,,,,,,,,well,,,,,,,,,I had been bitten and nothing else could satisfy me other than BMW,,,,,,,,,,,I waited,,,,,,,,waited,,,,,,,,,then the Fox body style hit me like a ton of bricks,,,,,,,,,,,,well, we all know what happened to those beautiful sculptures of automotive art..............then, the 6 came out.........i waited until 2005 hoping all the "bugs" would be out,,,,,,,,,and I bought one,,,,,,,,,,Dinan gave me all they had,,,,,,,,and still, I felt as if power could be better............................................ ....so, I'm where I am now,,,,,,,,,,,,,as for what I plan on "doing" with all that HP,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I guess the answer would be to ....................enjoy it
docgkr 08-23-2007, 01:41 PM If it's torque it would need, I'm sure there's a way for a transfusion of that somehow.......
xatlas0 08-23-2007, 02:07 PM If it's torque it would need, I'm sure there's a way for a transfusion of that somehow.......
There is but one way to get more torque: more air and fuel. You can get more HP by revving more.
You get more air/fuel by increasing displacement, nitrous, methanol, or a turbo/super. That's it, as far as I know.
That said, an upgraded diff may work well for you. Gives the car much more pickup from a stop.
docgkr 08-23-2007, 05:35 PM Thank you , any and all advice is greatly appreciated
Mr. BMW 08-23-2007, 06:00 PM oooooooooooooook,,,,,,,, ....................enjoy it
You got it, enjoy it...:buttrock
I guess the net my friend is you might want to consider the cars that produce High amounts of HP and equal or Higher amounts of torque (Natively)...
What are these cars? I think you know but just in case.
500+ club:
Z06, Viper, Saleen, GTO, CL63 AMG, Bentley GT, Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, 599GTB, etc...
My friend, it's all good if you want more horsies and even cool if you want it in a BMW but it may suit you better to get it from a vendor who does it native.
Whatever you get or do the the BMW you buy, please keep us informed.:lol
Good Luck
Mr. BMW 08-24-2007, 12:14 AM 800 HP M5
One accusation never leveled at BMW’s mighty M5 was that it lacked power. Annoying gearbox and far too many buttons yes, but 507bhp was generally felt to be sufficient. Clearly not if you are Currency Motorcars of California, USA, however. The tuner, based in the state known for its environmental credentials has managed to raise the power output of the 5.0-litre V10 by more than 300bhp. You HAPPY?:eyecrazy
This has been done by strapping not one but two intercooled turbochargers to it, boosting torque to 733lb/ft and brake horsepower to a dizzying 800hp. That drops the standard M5’s 0-62mph time from 4.7 seconds to 3.6 seconds. Currency Motorcars has also removed the limiter that pegged the M5 to 155mph rather than the 200mph the car would be capable of. However the power boost means the four-door saloon is now capable of snapping at the heels of a Bugatti Veyron and able to hit 240mph. :eyecrazyUGGH! You HAPPY?
Let us know if you get this done...
