Don't work...everybody's got em, and you still get a ticket.

Back in the stone age they had some pull, but now?

The only ones recognized are the I think Blue and White decals and each decal is numbered so it can be traced to the officer. Each officer was only alloted 2 stickers.

Hummm I am supposed to get a couple for my retirement but I don't need one as I have stinkin badge... :D My wife uses her badge pendant. My older daughter just drops my name, I just hope it isn't an officer that I reamed.:eyecrazy

If you can somehow find a way to get a "Makai Surf Club" sticker, I know first hand that it will help. They'll probably ask who you know in HPD. The Makai Surf Club is an HPD only surf club. My cousin was HPD turned DEA.

Bryan,

Let me see if I can get in touch with Teneri Maafala, president of SHOPO if I can get some stickers.

I know at one point officers were selling the stickers to Korean Bar Owners for $500 to $1K per sticker. Which is why the stickers were no longer recognized. :mad

Get an original and I'll have some made in the Philippines, along with the downtown parking garage validation sticker booklets that I've got in production.

Exactly.

And her second cousin working in the main office backroom is just about as clueless. :shifty

lemme tell ya' guys, fake parking validations are like gold around downtown (and Waikiki).

The other good one is the "smudged rubber stamp" fake validation.

Doesn't take much to be two steps ahead of a parking lot attendant... :D

Here's a deal....

Pick up a parking violation ticket off another car next time your in a municipal lot and save it.

Now when you are out and looking for a spot to park...park anywhere, (just not a fire hydrant= tow) and put that ticket on your car.

Most officers will pass it by, since it already is tagged, but beware...once in a while you'll get a sharp one who will stop and check the time on the ticket, so he can hit you again.

I think it's kinda unfair to have these kind of stickers.
Ohana or not... I thought the judicial branch of the gvmt is supposed to treat everyone equally.
How come I get stupid tickets like no front plate and yielding at a red light and others get a warning going like 20+ over and stuff?
These kind of stickers shouldn't even exist.

What is unfair, Cops take care of Cops it is a brotherhood however not as strong as it used to be.

You want to change that then join the police department and tag an officer or his family and see how far you get in the department.

As far military sticker??? Sorry that does not fly with me or with officers in the police department, no one targeted the military. I personally took care of Senior NCO's from getting tagged as they paid their dues. In one case I refused to show up for a Master Chief's Court Martial when he was arrested for DUI. However if you look at most of the speeding fatalities it was with military personnel. Young away from home who purchase a hot rod= danger.

Officers have a hard job to do which is to safeguard the public and what is sad is no one will understand what an officer goes through unless they don that uniform and badge.

I was once in a car with a mother in law of a police officer.. she cursed out the police officer that pulled us over.. because she was driving 25mph over the speed limit "don't you know who I am.. you can't ticket me.. I'm xxxx's mother in law..
The poor cop asked that she slow down and went back to his car while being cursed out. She wasn't anyone important's mother in law.. not that it should matter.
Everyone should be held to the same standard.. those in positions of power should be more responsible than those that are not, and behave accordingly. Unfortunately.. especially in the local government. The opposite is true.

This statement is VERY true. I have a lot of respect for law enforcement officers for all the crap that they have to put up with while dealing with/serving the public. Most people do not have an accurate idea of what these individuals are forced to contend with on a daily basis, in order to protect you. The most unfortunate thing is that a very few bad apples have tarnished the image of the majority and this has led people to feel that the entire proffession is out of order.

Yes No one will know .. thats BS.
most individuals ARE those that the police deal with on a daily basis.
I am not speaking from my arse. After a while you feel like all you see are those same people on dog the bounty hunter.. Anything you do isn't all that bad by comparison. Your standards come down as to what is acceptable behavior. Not to mention, just the evil opportunities that arise that some can't turn down. Police are the people that want to be in charge.. want to carry a gun.. risk takers.. and extroverts. Same as a bad criminal.. just with a different moral compass... If their moral compass wasn't straight to begin with.. or tracks off "North".. its an easy change.

I know I saw my peers degrade in morals. It takes a strong character to be a good police officer.. and they just aren't making people like that any more. Or at least, their modesty is broken, so you catch them all the time. It is currently HARD to work AS a totally honest police officer. The system has made allowences for the god complex.

Then 9//11 hit.. and everyone is telling the guy on the street that he's a hero... allows for more bad descisions to be swallowed without causing an ulcer.

3 years mainland and 6 years here.. that was all I could take. It wasn't the human waste you deal with.. its the peers dealing with them inappropriatly.. and not a little bit of Hawaii courts making all police work pretty much a waste of time. Get in your ticket quota... if no one is speeding.. start knitpicking. Hit tourists and military. Neither can afford the time to go to court. .Don't bother with (criminals) they can't pay. Pull over the middle class. Its not about the law.. its about the dough...

I feel for the guys its a sucky job.. frankly staffed similarly to the infantry.. last resort folk.. but it doesn't mean you just throw away your convictions...(the moral kind.. the courts throw away the other ones)

Sure, it probably is a hard job.
I'm just saying that it sucks that some people are treated above the law and others aren't.
Sure, what I did was illegal, but I got ticketed, went to court, paid my dues... BUT SO SHOULD THE OTHER GUY THAT GOT CAUGHT!!!
The government is supposed to have its checks and balances, but I guess this check isn't really balancing out.
From what you're saying, it sounds like the police itself foster this kind of behavior.
I'm just tired of hearing, "I did _____, but I just got off with a warning."
What makes this person and the violation so special that he can get let go for the same thing and I wasn't?
But, hey... life's not fair anyway.
It's almost like how when you "protect" the guys on the cruise.
Of course, everyone appreciates it and all, but they really shouldn't be driving that fast or things like that in the first place.

Must have been a very weak officer as on one cusses out an officer if she was related to an officer she should have known better to speak to an officer in that manner. The officer should have cited her and have her son-in-law come and talk to him.

There are no quota for officers on citations, we do keep track of citations as a means of looking at an officers workload. I pulled people over for violations on a daily basis, since I was a ranking officer, I no longer had to issue citations, so those that I pulled over were given a verbal warning, unless they mouthed off then I would have an officer cite them.

Heros, all officers and firemen are heros as they are the ones heading into the chaos while others are running away. Officers put their lives on the line everytime they put on their uniform.

If you feel bitter about what they do or how they treat people then join the police department and make a difference as they really need officers.

HJ, on the drives I merely know the officers schedules and roads less travelled. The way you are making it sound is like we go ripping down the freeway at 100+ and that I will get everyone off that is insane and would never happen.

I know you had a not to friendly experience with an officer, but in your own admission you said you didn't stop and for him to cite you he had to be right there at the intersection watching you. So if you didn't see him with his blue light on top of his vehicle then I can assure you that you weren't paying attention to what was around at the intersection.

HJ...get used to it!
There's not much in life that is equal.
Sometimes you'll get caught, while others don't, and other times you WON'T get caught while others do!

If anyone doesn't want a ticket, then don't break the law...how simple is that?

The Police Officers are just doing their job as best as they can/see it.
As mentioned, take a walk in their shoes first, then I'm sure you'll see the lack of equality and fairness at it's core.

This thread has so much drama, and so little importance...time to move on.

It's not all black and white like that. Not like I was purposely trying to break the law that time. Sometimes, you're just so tired and you don't even think about what you're doing... Especially a car like a Mercedes or BMW... going 80 in my M3 feels like going 40 in my Impreza because the thing starts all shaking and stuff. Haha... Sometimes it's just that comfortable you don't even realize you're going that fast.

I would like to say, Police Officers have one of the hardest jobs around, making split second decisions and putting their life on the line for us all each and everyday ensuring that the community is safe so for that my hats off to them all. HOWEVER! I do have a question and maybe Mr Flex can answer the question for me. There is a Mustang GT here in Wahiawa (police car) that has his windows tinted with 5% all the way around. Is there something exempting him from the state law? or is it something that is just overlooked as he has a blue light on top of the car. I would like 5% on my car but cant afford the ticket or taking it off and putting it on once a year.

Thanks in advance.

I would have to completely agree with this. HPD officers really do have it tough and literally put their lives on the line each day they don on their uniforms. Even when they're off duty, they still put themselves at risk - after all, when is an officer not an officer?

With that said, I would also have to completely agree with the "above the law" part. I've had my share of run-ins with cool cops and not so cool cops. The only ticket I've gotten for speeding (26 over) I totally deserved. That I actually had no problem with as the cop was very level headed and professional. The 2nd was for expired safety - that cop was insanely over egoed. (He kept saying I was speeding but did not/could not tag me cuz he didn't have the radar gun on so he tagged me for expired safety since that was the only thing on me.)

If you want proof, try driving up the Pali any day of the week. There are tons of cops who don't drive anywhere near 35 mph, and they're not exactly in a pursuit. True, maybe they're running late for a meeting or whatever, but does that set a good example for the rest of us?

As far as mods, I saw (also on the Pali during the day) an '05 Altima V6 cop car with insanely chrome tint that was obviously illegal - I mean, seriously, is he going to write himself a ticket?

I have several friends who are married to cops. All of them confided to me, at one point or another, that they don't really care how they drive because they will always drop the name of their cop-spouse. One of my friends who used to drive an Integra Type R in high school would call out other cars on the freeway and, when caught by a cop, would drop the name of his uncle, now a retired HPD Chief.

But probably the most blatant of all - and I'm sure all of you have seen this at one point or another - is how an HPD cop car, of all vehicles, will be stopped at an intersection, flash their blue lights and even stop traffic so they can get through, and, once through, turn off their lights and go on their way. I mean seriously! I've seen this at busy intersections like Ward/Kapiolani. I mean, if they want to just drive fast like that and not wait, maybe they should just leave the lights on.

Like what Mr. Flex said, it would be very hard for an officer to tag and then write up a ticket for another officer or their family, even if they deserve it. And yes, there is very much a huge double standard that exists, at the detriment and expense of the public. And I say this because there are a few bad apples who come from cop families (or even some cops themselves) who will abuse their position to do whatever (driving-wise or otherwise).

I think the only way around it is to bring back the vancams - as much as everyone hated it, it was a great equalizer and, at least, for a time, it got people to slow down.
